    I watched this video a couple of weeks ago when I was down a weaving TH-cam rabbit hole and then a few days ago I was weaving and noticed a knot. I immediately thought of Jane saying, "Egads!" Thank you for this video! It really helped. And smurf head, I'm dying.

    Wow thank you so much! I had to piece together some threads while winding my warp and now when I weave up to those knots I now know how to repair it! What a handy thing to know!

    Thank you very much, Jane! I knew there had to be an easier way than hanging lines off the back of the loom! Hope all's going well there!

    I would have like to see a follow-up, ie., after it is washed, ends cut. thanks you!

      Hi Maggie, thanks for the suggestion. After we washed the piece, the thinner thread repair was not really noticeable. It's a great way to do the repair on the loom!

    Does this work only with wool? or acrylics, etc too?

    so beautiful, how can i buy that loom

    I'm sure it's not "correct", but this is how I've always fixed a broken warp! It's always worked fab for me and I've never had to muck around with hanging extra lengths off the back of my loom.

    Intrigued ... but don't understand how the knot is cut and the two ends are not woven in - but the new hand woven in thread stops the cut ends from pulling out. Please explain.

      Jane created a "bridge" on either side of the knot before she cut it off. The bridge will provide friction to keep the two ends of the original warp thread in place (so you don't have to have a new one hanging off the back). Everything will snuggle up together when the cloth is wet finished.

    After wet finishing, do you cut off the "smyrf" head AND the knot? It would seem that is the process....Thank you! I am thinking of using this for chenille - several warp threads broke during the warping the loom process, and it would be great to just tie the knot!

    Great video. Is fixing the knot on the loom better than wasting yards of thread when warping to remove the whole warp length that had the knot? TIA

    Wonderful video! Do you cut the knot before or after washing?

    • @JaneStaffordTextilesChannel
      @JaneStaffordTextilesChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Rachel, best to cut the knot after you wash it :)

    • @sharonvelasquez6270

      (Better to cut after washing) is this because the fibers will full at washing?

    I have a knot in my acrylic variegated worsted weight warp. Will I still be able to use your method, or should I repair it as I would a broken warp thread with a weight off the back of my rigid heddle loom?

    • @JaneStaffordTextilesChannel
      @JaneStaffordTextilesChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Susan, don't see why it wouldn't work and both ways would be fine. If you use Jane's method, make sure that you have long enough tails on both ends as your acrylic yarn is most likely stretchy and will come in when off the loom and you want it to be long enough. I'd give it a try, it's so easier on the loom :)

  • @elenadent2230

    If you're worried about a slippery yarn weaseling out, would you use a sharp needle and actually insert the 2-ply thread through the warp thread you're replacing, bridge the gap, then finish the same way, cutting the ends of the two ply flush? Wool's easy, it'll full in and no one will be the wiser, but is there a risk of the cut threads pulling out later?

    • @JaneStaffordTextilesChannel
      @JaneStaffordTextilesChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Elena, I have never had a problem with these threads pulling out because of the length of the overlap.
      I only weave with natural fibres that all shrink to some degree when fulled or wet finished.
      So to answer your question, I have never done that but there is no reason why you can’t :)
      You need to do what you feel happiest about :)

    Do I detect a twill gamp on that loom? Possibly to be seen in an upcoming Online Guild lesson?
