    I own the cheapest park stand and it works pretty good. I don’t envy the features on these other stands. A stand must be sturdy and stable which is something the park does in spades, even at the lowest price point. But different strokes for different folks. I barely move my stand.

    One thing to note about the Feedback Sports stand, is there's a way to make a quick adjustment to the throw when getting it in/out of the stand. There's a certain point in the adjustment where you can pull the knob in/out a pretty good distance. It shortens the time of trying to hold the bike up and getting it clamped in.

    • @davidrsmith2417
      @davidrsmith2417 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True. My Feedback Sports stand will slide (!) wide open or closed once the soft rubber rotary knob is first turned CCW about 1/2 turn. Then turn CW to do final tightening. Easy peasy. Notice that this all aluminum stand can be used for repair or for washing. And the wet or muddy or greasy stand can be easily and quickly wiped down and cleaned before storage - no worries of rusting. The smooth, long-lasting and beautiful anodized finish is the best available.

      Time is an important aspect of the decision criteria for me. I like working on my bike, but I don't want to spend much time building a bike stand that might (or might not) work. Also, I value the portability of a bike stand. While it does spend most of its time in one place, I take it with me every so often (like when I travel, or want to work in the garage vs basement).

    As a proud Bikehand owner I am pissed that you didn't select it as best value. It clearly is, especially when you consider ease of set up/break down and moving around b/c its pretty light. Plus it makes for a good rest while ripping on Doug DeMuro. :-)

      Love my Bikehand also. No mention of the free tool tray or how easy it is to adjust while the bike is on the stand (rotate, height and legs aren't 3.5 ft long either). Having teeth, never ever will it slip and it folds up to hang on the wall super flat. If it was blue and sold by Park Tools there wouldn't be a close second.

  • @sandy_knight

    A wide throw is also useful when trying to muscle a heavy bike into the stand, you don't have to line up the seat post/top tube as accurately to fit it in the jaws.

    • @Mamilian
      @Mamilian  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am OK with you clamping YOUR bike ;P.
      The resin that holds them together that does most of the breaking, not the CF. The top tube isn't designed for compressive forces around the diameter of the tube. That's why it isn't recommended. Probably one of those things where you can do it 99 out of a 100 times with no issue, but the one time you apply too much pressure, you break the frame. We know it's a bad idea. We know why. Very much an individual tolerance for risk kind of thing.

    This is a good summary of these various stands. The complaining in these comment... some people need to find a hobby lol. Overall, I prefer the beam-type repair stands to any of these clamping stands. It's a bit of a hassle to take off the front wheel to use a beam-type stand, but they are far more stable than any of these clamping stands as the bike weight is centered exactly in the middle of the base not off to one side and the center of gravity is much lower. Also, all sides of the bike are more accessible because there's no column in the way, there's no clamp involved so there's no concerns with clamping aero seatposts or fragile tubes, and it's easy to rotate the bike around to get at the angle you want (really useful feature for washing bikes). Bike Hand sells a very nice beam-type stand for $150 on Amazon.

    • @Mamilian

      For building a bike, I can see how that would be better. Working on a bike, especially things like the front disc brake, would be easier on a seat post clamping type.

    • @Mamilian
      @Mamilian  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The main difference b/w the 9.3 and the 10.3 is in the clamp. Working on a heavy bike, like most e-bikes, I think it's probably worth opting for the 10.3 clamp because it's going to be easier to get the bike in and out of the stand, but it's not going to be a huge difference in usability.

    Great video man. I appreciate you taking the time to set this up!!! Really good overview of some of the stands. I was tossing up between a Park PCS 4-2 and a Feedback sports. I just found out the PCS 4-2 has a vertically mounted wheel truing accessory, so that just about seals it for me, because I think that's pretty awesome.
    I'll never understand people's fascination with carbon bikes though. They are a bit lighter, but so much more easily prone to getting wrecked. And they can't be recycled when they're done. It's just this nasty fibre stuff that goes in landfill forever.

      @Mamilian  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      How would you clamp the normal post in the seat tube? I don't see how that could work; I have a Speed Concept. Even if that was an option, that's a lot of work to clamp the bike. Especially if you have Di2 with the battery in the seat post.
      FWIW, the easy way to work on a TT bike if you can't clamp the seat post, is to hang it from the saddle. Most TT saddles can be gently clamped as well - if you need more stability.

    • @tasaman
      @tasaman 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Mamilian not a lot of work. Most seatposts come in three sizes. You just remove the aero and install regular. No seat will be moved so reinstall at the same height and your off. Now it won’t work with anything other than round post holes of course.

The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.

    • @Mamilian
      @Mamilian  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Perfectly level, no, of course not. The concrete floor in my basement isn't perfectly level either. Very few floors are perfectly level. If your commenting about the slight incline of the driveway, then yes, there is a slight incline. Does that matter? Guess it depends what your perceived issue is. One might argue that it doesn't matter at all because it's barely noticeable IRL, its a modern flat concrete driveway, and since most floors aren't perfectly level; using the stands in a place where I actually use a stand might be a better test. Also since most of the stands are a tripod design, as long as the floor isn't crazy uneven, it's fine - tripods are awesome that way :).

      @Mamilian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry to hear that. The purpose of the video was more to explain how to evaluate a bike stand, provide some suggestions at the bottom and top end of the price range, and talk through pro/con of some of the common stands that are available. Every stand has some drawbacks (i.e. feel, price, flexibility, etc). We live in a complicated world, with lots of choices.
      If you're looking for a single recommendation, that's really hard without knowing your budget. Personally, if I had to buy a stand again, I would go for the Park Tool PCS-10.2 (newer version of what I have) because it fixes at least one of the complaints I have with my PCS-10, and without spending pro-level $ on a stand, the PCS-10.x line is fantastic for what I use it for.

      @@Mamilian Thanks for the courtesy of a reply. I've been looking (online) at bike repair stands for a couple weeks. They're all looking the same to me, at this point. Most of them are over my budget. The Park Tools stands more so than the others, by far. Sorry I unloaded on YOU, because my feelings of frustration weren't caused by YOU, obviously.
      I think I'm going to try the "Ibera Easy Utility Bicycle Stand" available on Amazon for $25. It folds up for storage VERY small, and if it doesn't work out for me I'll just throw it away. I couldn't afford to do that with the Park Tools stands.
      Hope you enjoy making TH-cam content for a long time into the future. But maybe you should consider getting a different narrator, someone whose voice would not "trail off" during part of the sentences so much. Also eliminate the noisy background (neighbors' conversations). Also you could stop obsessing with the clamp-opening distance, measuring it to the tenth of a millimeter for crissake!
