Tire Treadwear Grades and Traction Ratings

There are quite a few numbers and letters on a tire’s sidewall. Do you know what they all mean? Let’s dig into one of the lesser talked-about sidewall markings in this Tire Review Continental Tire Garage Studio video.

Gud idea 4a vid! Gud vid. My only advice, customer should know TWR before ordering, REASON WHY customer chose that rating, and double, make that TRIPLE-check that installer did not SUBSTITUTE a lesser tire, of lesser TWR, for same price as more quality tire. Tire installers try this trick to increase profits/move cheaper tires out of stock quicker. Several years ago, a FORMERLY TRUSTED installer, whom I had P.O.'d by refusing to buy, UNTIL he assured me he had found EXACTLY what I wanted, screwed me by slipping 4-225 car tires w/420TWR onto my truck for which I had ordered 4-235 truck tires w/720TWR. I was so busy w/my business, I drove my truck 2wks b4 I checked the tires. The former installer no longer is my friend. (and yes, he ripped me good, @ differance of 4x$78=$242).

Lower threadwear makes a tire grip better. I actually choose lower grade, 200-250, it just depends on what you want. I just got some 340 thread tires replaced with 220 treadwear tires and the grip level when cornering is inmense

@@514aam I hear you!! Agree w/U. On city streets/ smooth highways, "softer ride". In my case, however, Many dirt/gravel roads, OFTEN SHORT OFF-ROAD scenarioes, home construction sites, mountainous dirt -road/ off road, even one "drive-way" ran over 1 mi. ADDED: MUD/SNOW travel. So, I gotts to has tough, puncture resistitant, gripping traction in all above applications. I work in just shy of "4-wheeler" conditions, yet travel highway miles, too.
