BRO. You're in a shop! I don't think I've seen a single time you've EVER been in a shop! Also, it's been a while. It's a good YEAR. ETCG and YOU are BACK :D That bicycle example is THE EASIEST analogy and I've been on HOURS of other videos. MAN, YOU A REAL ONE.

I remember changing the struts out on a Toyota and forgot to mark them before removing. Alignment was so far out, the guy at the alignment shop wasnt too happy about that 🤣 Gave him more work I guess. PS- loved the Bicycle analogy, great way to explain that positive caster 👍
Using caster oil on your wheels also helps. Simple pour caster oil all over the wheels and control arms to add positive caster. Do this every 3 months for best results.
For some reason, American autos used negative caster way back. I noticed this in the 60's because the front wheels would look like they are laying down towards the outside when turning. I noticed the difference when I saw German cars turn.
Great idea to show engine stand casters I can never remember The difference between camber and caster but now caster on an engine stand or shopping cart is way simpler to remember.
Great video. The Caster on my 2021 RAV4 is out. It measures 3.8 and should be between 4.2-5.7. Is this considered out by a little or alot? What is likely damaged? Strut? Control arm? Other? How would a mechanic go about figuring out what is causing the caster to be out?
If you alignment sheet shows that you have a negative caster, would this be bad? I have an aftermarket lift kit and on highway speeds I am always correcting it because the wheel seems to go where ever it wants.
I remember in my young days when I borrowed a bike, its very hard to steer and my toe is always touching the front tire. Now I understand that negative caster will give load on steering system.
Lol San Diego doesn't have much of a "Winter" 🤣 Sure it helps a little bit. Surprised he didn't do a thicker insulation though, I guess he could add fiberglass later
My front right tire on my 2017 civic EX was hit in an accident. Now the tire is pushed forward to the front bumper about 0.25 inch more than the right tire side. A mechanic did the alignment twice, but the caster portion is grayed out. Can caster be measured in a 2017 civic? Should I find another shop?
i noticed on my front wheels they are both positive but the driver side has more positive caster than the passenger. it's slanted more towards the steering wheel. also I have a question about the rear wheels. How can I center my rear wheels in the wheel wells. I noticed my rear tires are not centered like most cars and some models just like mine. they are shifted off center towards the front of the car so the gap between the tire and fender is almost half what it is at the back. I want to put a larger tire but cant bcuz it hits the fender on the rear door side.
Why bother to have positive castor for the front steered wheels? To increase camber angle with increase of steering angle to aid cornering performance, as well as provide self centering steering via literally jacking up the front end of the vehicle as the steering is turned.
Sir I have a question, I have a honda accord ex 2010 , that I replaced strusts ,frt toes ,upper & lower arms , now it has caster angle weel issue to the front . How can I fix caster from the button of the wheels? Bc 2 alignment shops didn't fix my car issue
Looks like that Honda took more of a front end hit than my 04 corolla . The steering fights a little bit at highway speed . I guess that is a symptom of not enough positive caster
I just had my 4runner lifted and new wheels/ tires. Had an alignment and camber adjusted but it’s still a TAD negative and by a tad it’s almost unnoticeable. But being that it’s not exactly 0° is that an issue at all?
Would be a good idea if your rear axle steers in the opposite direction of your front axle, but terrible if they're steered in the same direction. Wheels that increase positive camber with increase of steering angle are not conducive to cornering well.
Motorcycles with their straight forks, angled forward, have a lot of positive caster. This gives diectional stability and a restoring force to the steering. Bicycles start with raked forks caused by the angle of the steering tube and head, but then there is a curve in the forks to offset the front axle forward to the point where the steering rake intersects the ground. Special purpose racing bikes use different steering head angles. Road racing bikes have more forward rake while criterion bikes that must steer quicker have the steering head closer to vertical.
There isn’t any such thing as "self aligning torque". Why was negative castor popular from the 50's and earlier? Why does the steering wheel come back on it's own? There is only one spec for front end alignment. What is it?
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13:5) Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Matthew 7:13-14) And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation of John 20:15)

I think caster might be similar to rake angle in a motorcycle. That helps me understand the concept better.
its precisely the same
@@imakedookie Yes, exactly👍👍
I was thinking exactly same thing, like a big ole stretched chopper
Thank you
exactly… it is Rake
as opposed to Trail

The highlight of the channel is the very detailed and informative explanations! I've been a long time subscriber!
Good video, the bicycle analogy really brought it home for me. Thank you.

Great job of explaining in layman's terms!
one of the best descriptions out there. Thanks
Hola from Mazatlán for now! Shopping carts good example too
I REALLY appreciate your explaining this. I had heard the term, but never really understood it. Thank you!
Thank you R&W for this informative upload. Your knowledge and experience is very much appreciated. Keep informing the people...
Amazing!
This rebuild seems to be growing in complexity.
Highly respect the explanation boss
Very good clear explanation of the set up and the theory. Thanks.
I like the bicycle analogy
So very very well explained
Good video.
Learned a lot.
That shopping cart example...Thanks!
my toyota verso uk says is not adjustable but u can dobthat by moving strut mounts as they have space left where bolts goes through the body
Nice garage👀Doesn't have liquor cabinet though😪
Thanks. Excellent video and explanation!
Excellent video and information. Thank you for sharing 🙏👍
4:34 "OK let's get the baldest tire in the shop on this thing..." lol, hey, nice informative video. Thanks for the explanation.
Very well done! Thank you!
So on a macpherson strut setup, the top pivot point would be at the strut mount right?
Very good information

My man
My imaginary has limits🤣
But all the love
How can I add positive caster to a vehicle that isn’t adjustable? I’ve got an F450 and it has almost 0° caster
If you alignment sheet shows that you have a negative caster, would this be bad? I have an aftermarket lift kit and on highway speeds I am always correcting it because the wheel seems to go where ever it wants.
Very helpful, thank you.
Thanks dude, I didn’t know this.
Out of all cars in the world you had to present 4ws prelude. It would be awesome if you were showing rear caster :) cheers
I remember in my young days when I borrowed a bike, its very hard to steer and my toe is always touching the front tire. Now I understand that negative caster will give load on steering system.
Does negative caster contribute to death wobble? 🙏
Excellent Video !!!!!
Personally, I think the best example is a shopping cart simply looked on at the front wheels of a shopping cart, and the angle is abundantly clear
How is the insulation working for you in the winter now?
Lol San Diego doesn't have much of a "Winter" 🤣 Sure it helps a little bit. Surprised he didn't do a thicker insulation though, I guess he could add fiberglass later

I’m building a off road go kart , what angle caster should I use. Please help. I don’t want to much or to little.
Why bother to have positive castor for the front steered wheels? To increase camber angle with increase of steering angle to aid cornering performance, as well as provide self centering steering via literally jacking up the front end of the vehicle as the steering is turned.
Question on my driver side front. The caster is 0.7 on my passenger side 0.6 is this bad?
Great content

also, it’s important to understand why it’s so easy to go out of control, backing up at high-speed because your caster angle is in reverse
Probably wouldn't hurt to apply some castor oil on the steering linkage when you're done
I was told my caster was bent? Is that even possible?? If so, what can i do to fix it? An alignment? Thnx
keep them coming 👍
Keep it up man! I want to see you recommend some used vehicles again adjusting to inflation 😂
Looks like that Honda took more of a front end hit than my

I guess that is a symptom of not enough positive caster
Do cars with mismatched caster angles drive straight? From this video I can’t see why they wouldn’t.
No. They pull to one side.
Thanks bro keep it up

What if I have all new front end but the caster is still off
What caster angle works best for strippers? 😲
i wonder why car manufactures don't do negative caster for the back wheels?
Would be a good idea if your rear axle steers in the opposite direction of your front axle, but terrible if they're steered in the same direction. Wheels that increase positive camber with increase of steering angle are not conducive to cornering well.
@@4G12 thank you for the enlightenment
Awsome.
Great, but your video need to be explained in graphical show, it is normal methodology for any geometry.
This is why a bicycle has positive on the front forks. Correct? Same with motorcycles.
Edit: I like your videos btw. Ty

Explaining caster...hmmm, does that mean you're a telecaster?
👍
