    You just saved my dream knife. Grabbed an old Swiss army knife and pried the spring with a sewing awl. God bless you man!!!

    That was really, really interesting! I've been carrying a Hubertus "GroBer Springer" (3 & 1/4 Inch clip-point blade and stag handles, of the old variety that actually has "Springer" ("switchblade") stamped on the end of the handle) in my coat pocket since the mid 1970s, but never took it apart or replaced anything - it still snaps open perfectly despite having been used and abused for all kinds of duties over the years. A few gentle hammer blows on the blade-axle rivet, every other year or so, will eliminate blade play resulting from rough use. Extremely high quality, very durable and reliable "gentleman's pocket knife". I have always used "Ballistol" gun oil (another German product, available at better gun stores) as lubricant and also occasionally on the stag handles. Works very well, never gunked up the mechanism.

    Just got one of these, the guardian model, fit and finish is good, a little better then the Italian knives, seems like its built very solid, what are they generally worth as I paid $200 US, seen them listed for close to $400.

    I live in Southern Ontario and we have Draconian laws pertaining to auto knives. It has always pissed me off.
    This type of knife is very hard to come by!
    Our laws really are stupid because there is nothing faster than a fixed blade. Once it's clear of its sheath or drawer it's ready it's open .
    Knives do not hurt or kill people, people kill people.
    Anyway it makes no sense.
    Your video was very helpful, Thank you.

    I have my dads old Springer. It’s had its production date confirmed by Hubertus Solingen to be between 1945-49 due to its blade markings. The spring has broken and being from the U.K. I can’t ‘legally’ get it repaired. Been told it quite rare and worth a fair few quid. Any tips on what I can do with it? Hubertus offered to repair, renovate and give it a CERT of authenticity for free but I can’t get it to them.

    How long does the spring usually last?

    • @PVKvegas
      @PVKvegas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That depends greatly on how the knife is stored and how many times it is fired. Along with proper maintenance

    But if the spring breaks, how to take out the piece of spring still Inside the knife?

    • @PVKvegas
      @PVKvegas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is tricky but doable with a long finish nail and a smaller hammer.

  • @michaelhightower8160
    @michaelhightower8160 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    🤔 To me it feels like the spring is keeping it from going all the way down like it should . And I really don't know if this is the original spring that it came with or not I brought it used on eBay .It springs out really good but just doesn't close all the way down like you should!

    • @PVKvegas
      @PVKvegas  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The blade is sitting proud because the mechanism on the inside needs tuning. It is no longer holding the blade inside the handle nice and tight like it used to. The Knife will need to be taken apart and adjusted. I am not sure who still does this work anymore.

    • @michaelhightower8160

      @@PVKvegas Thank you for getting back with me on my questions to you! Now do you know how sales a spring for these kind of automatic knives? It's a really good knive it opens up really good .But just doesn't close all the way down like it should with the point of the knife sticking inside of it like it should and not outside of it 🥴.

  • @Daud76

      Depends on the build and brand, Hubertus have been making knives for generation in Germany so these have a collectability and quality not found in modern import knives
