  • Would you pay extra for this seat?
    I did and on this video I'll tell you if it is worth the money.
    Swiss International business class is a solid product - nothing extraordinary just a good solid business class for your money. However within the Swiss Business Class cabin they have these special Throne Seats. They are single seats where normally they'd have two.
    For this 12 and half hour flight from Singapore to Zurich the extra charge for the Throne seat was AUD$380 or USD$260 on top of the fare. Not a trivial amount of money.
    Swiss Business Class, 12 Hours on the Throne gives Swiss Business Class and these Throne seat the ultimate test. What are they like for working? What were the meals like? How are these seats for sleeping? All these questions are answered on this comprehensive review of Swiss International Business Class.

      An interesting one. Have been using it for about 6 years and whenever I don't use it I get comments about where is your opening tune. Maybe it's time for a poll...should I keep it or ditch it?

    I flew Swiss business from Zurich to Singapore in June. The food out of Zurich was excellent (restruant quality), the wines excellent, and the bed wide and comfortable. The service was prompt and friendly. Probably my best ever business experience. Michael M.

    Thank you for making your video less than 10 minutes long. There are more and more youtubers who are now doing aviation related content. 1:58 AUD380!
    My preference is for the front row seats with the extra leg/foot room…even if it is one of the twin seats.
    I also found the food in Business Class a little underwhelming with very limited options on the menu.
    Transits at Zurich good, I had a 55 minute International to International transfer, it took just 15 minutes to get from the E Gates Terminal to the B Gates in the main terminal, which gave me a good 30 minutes to relax at the gate before boarding the next flight.

    Perfect timing as Swiss have come up as a possible option for my regular trips to Europe if I can claw myself away from OneWorld. Quite expensive to select the seat, although the other twin seats looks pretty poor if you like the window and aisle (like me).

    I flew Swiss in 2022 just after covid on the same route. However, the reason we picked Swiss was to fly on the ever illusive A340. Great service and crew, meals were filling and delicious. Then flew with them on their smaller A220 into Athens, which was stunning.

    I first flew Swissair in 1966 many times between Zurich and Manchester (UK) on Caravelle and Convair CV990 Coronado equipment. The catering was often a cold hot dog in a warm bun. The last time was with Swiss in around 2013 to Hon Kong on an Airbus A340. We really like their service, catering and crew.

    Although I do fly in and out of ZRH with some frequency, it’s usually on Air Canada business class. My only Swiss flights were short hops within Europe, so steerage was fine. Even when I travel within Europe, it’s usually on Easyjet. But this did look like a nice product.

  • @davidcole333

    Dennis, I think I would fly Swiss business class out of ZRH just for that amazing outdoor terrace they have at their lounge and for the chocolate. Food is always going to be hit or miss on airlines. Add to that, I think the Swiss 777-300er is one of the most beautiful 777's flying today.

  • @flybyanuj
    @flybyanuj 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great video as always Dennis. Most airlines do offer their flagship on Singapore routes, given the high volume of business traffic I reckon. I love how you had to include the BA comparison during your review haha! I loved the metal box for amenity kits and it is a cool idea for sure - quite unique. I recently flew to Toronto with KLM on their 787-10 in business, and they launched their new amenity kits on August 1. They are absolutely shameful - it was made up of some cheap quality material that you can use as a grocery bag at some point. In the name of sustainability, they are trying to do all sorts of cost cutting. Air France and KLM are the only big carriers that still don't do mattress covers in business class.
    Great content, and keep flying!

    Flew Hong Kong to Zurich in 4a throne seat on the Swiss B777 in June. I really enjoyed the experience, but found the seat needed a mattress pad or something, because I agree it felt like sleeping on a balloon and it’s good to hear you had the same experience. Crew was great though, and the food was okay. I’d happily fly Swiss again.

    We were booked to fly Swiss business class from Hong Kong to Zurich, however, much to our surprise and shock, we were upgraded to First Class at the boarding gate. I wondered why my facial recognition didn’t work and lo and behold the boarding attendant took our boarding pass and told us we were upgraded to First Class! I am tall (1.96m) and I found the throne seats to be borderline undoable. Best seats are row 4A, 6A, 4G and 6G. The latter two are in the middle, but they have space to the left and all of these seats have bigger footwells. I like Swiss - flying the same route in 30 days - but they are not my favourite.

    • @emercycrite
      @emercycrite 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The throne seats are overrated for this reason imo. Sure, you get lots of storage space but the super cramped footwell renders a restful sleep almost impossible.

      @pcmacintyre 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm also 1.96m, mostly leg with size 45 feet. An overly cramped foot well means I will just partially recline my seat, which negates a lot of the benefit of business class.

    Re the Carpet....modern design but I agree with you....
    Welcome to the all-new Terminal 2 (T2), where nature meets modernity. T2 seamlessly merges the realms of architecture and landscape. The terminal’s carpet mirrors natural topography to guide your path, while clouds dance on the ceilings above. By incorporating natural materials and hues, the terminal aims to engender serenity for passengers and visitors alike.
    Inaugurated in 1991, the terminal underwent a three-and-a-half-year transformation journey in 2020 to increase handling capacity, enhance facilities and bring in more efficient systems.

    I’m just thinking… the amount that Swiss charges for these throne seats are around about the same that Air NZ charges for “Business Premier Preferred” (I.e. the Cathay Pacific first class seats on ZK-OKU) on their flights. It’s ridiculous that Swiss charges this much for the seats, honestly US$100 is already enough.

    Dennis I have to thank you for your idea of bringing chocolates for the cabin crew. An Aussie living in the States, I fly a bit, and look it absolutely overjoys crews, without exception, to be thanked and thought of in this way. I’ll treasure the note from my last Rex flight in July - the crew were visibly touched to receive chocolate made in the US city I live in.

    The background music isn't loud enough. Please make it louder. 🙄

    There’s absolutely no way I’d pay that kind of money for a throne seat selection. That’s even more absurd than BA charging for seat assignments in business class.
