  • Episode 277: Short But Memorable Runs In ECW
    I've gotten a ton of requests over the years for From The Vault episodes & I've always done my best to fulfil them. I have gotten some like "cover Steve Austin in ECW", which is a subject that wouldn't be long enough for a full episode; but it did give me an idea. Why not cover a ton of short runs of wrestlers in a specific company & make it into an episode. So begins a mini arc of "Short But Memorable Runs" & gonna start with ECW. What defines a short run; a few matches, a couple of months spent there, and/or no more than a year and a half. This isn't about the ECW mainstays, this is about those who spent a short amount of time there; like Steve Austin, Brian Pillman, Scott Hall, Cactus Jack, Dusty Rhodes, Eddie Guerrero, & others. If I missed any & there's enough for a Part 2, I'll consider doing one in the future; but I do have to do "Short But Memorable Runs" for other companies 1st before starting Part 2's.

      Ron Simmons definitely needs to lead off part 2, PCO and phycosis and a handful of people brought in the biggest yet downward times.

    Some of the ladies had some pretty memorable runs as well in ECW. Sherri Martel, Sunny, and Missy Hyatt come to mind for me. Maybe a future video on the women of ECW perhaps?

    I enjoyed the ECW runs of Steve Austin, Brian Pillman, Mick Foley, Bam Bam Bigelow, Al Snow, Sid Vicious, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko, Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, and Chris Jericho.

    Steve Austin's presence in ECW allowed him to develop his promo skills as well as his legendary in ring persona in the near future and his termination from WCW as well as the backstage BS and politics in WCW fueled up his promos whenever Austin is given time to speak.
    Imagine if Ric Flair showed up in ECW while he's AWOL in WCW and despite the fact that ECW's not the type of organization that fits his wrestling style, all he gotta do is diss WCW and fans will like him for it!

      He would have never shown up in ECW when he was AWOL from WCW; he was always WWF bound in 1998 if he could have gotten out of his contract

      @@WeAreProWrestling he would dismiss ECW as a dirty, low tier group

      Steve Austin was always pretty good on the mic...from his earliest days feuding with Gentleman Chris Adams in the Dallas branch of the USWA to his World Television title run in The Dangerous Alliance to his team with Brian Pillman, The Hollywood Blondes. I'll agree that Austin was often overlooked but I was surprised and disappointed when he debuted as The Ringmaster in the WWF because he didn't need Ted DiBiase talking for him...a Paul E. Dangerously type of chicken-sh!t heel manager was alright but DiBiase was bigger than him! And the Million Dollar Corporation was a joke of silly gimmicks that were played out by '96. Even Stunning Steve had chops though.

      In kayfabe the 1st version, since they had all the belts
      But for most people, it's the 2nd version, since that's the version they know

      @pelicanphuucker4life 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The version all about keeping The Franchise World Champion...No Gimmicks Needed Chris Candido, The Beast from the East Bam Bam Bigelow, The Head Cheerleader Francine and even AOL's MOST Downloaded Celebrity Tammy Lynn Sytch and sure, if I can be serious for a moment, even tag partner/foe from Calgary, Alberta Canada Lance Storm w/ Jason & Tammy Lynn Bytch.... the greatest incarnation of The Triple Threat in ECW.

    What was ECW(1994-2001) Highest Rated TV Viewership and who was the biggest draw in ECW?

      @WeAreProWrestling  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can't find ECW ratings nor do ratings matter
      ECW was great

      @@WeAreProWrestlingagreed...and the final years of the company prove more than anything that ECW was in fact "the biggest draw" . Meaning that even when the company had lost most of its recognizable stars, who'd built the product, they could still draw decent attendance based solely on the brand itself. Sure, Raven, Shane Douglas and TAZ are perennial ECW Champions but whatever highs they were able to take the company to when they inevitably signed with WCW or the WWF the company just kept rolling along...meaning no single talent meant more than the three letters on the marquee....ECW. Now you can argue that TAZ's exit certainly hurt the company when along with The Dudleys he signed with the WWF and just after the little promotion that almost could had started on TNN...but then you had Tanaka and Mike Awesome and the rise of Justin Credible and Steve Corino and the somewhat lackluster return of Raven and then The Sandman. But not one wrestler ever meant more to ECW than those three letters themselves....though in hindsight you could argue Tommy Dreamer may have and if course Terry Funk in the early days...but it would be an argument you'd probably lose.

    I thought Bourne Again was fn awesome !!!! He could have been an ECW mainstay . At least for a few years . That was perfect for ECW at the time , rebelling against the big two . Plus Matt was a for real tough and hardcore wrestler .

      1. Everyone I talked about here
      2. Would have had a few matches, then go back to WCW
      3. Foley, along with Bam Bam, hit the max length I gave for a "short run" at a year and a half

    Three questions:
    1. Which crowd do you prefer:ECW One Night Stand(2006) or Night of Champions (2011) ?
    2. What is your favorite "shoot" promo TNA ever did on WWE ?
    3. Which match would you rather have seen:Rated R Superstar Edge(2006) vs Stone Cold(1998) or Randy Orton vs Samoan Joe ?
