I had the pleasure of taking a picture with the Sandman at my old job who was also with Bill Alfonzo. I also got to cut a promo with them and got a picture of Bill and one of him with RVD and Sabu. It was a great experience for me.
When “Enter Sandman” plays, Sandman is out to whoop some jabroni butts while he’s drinking beer and smoking like heck. Also, whenever “Natural Born Killaz” plays in the arena…RUN AND HIDE! NEW JACK IS ON THE LOOSE!
While Sandman was no Danielson or Malenko by any far stretch of the wildest of imagination , he still put on entertaining matches . So I wouldnt say he was a terrible wrestler . He was believable in what he did and that is what counts in the ring . But he is one of a kind in that regard , you dont want a card full of his style . But in ECW it was perfect as everybody stood out having totally different styles from Raven , Sabu , Dreamer , Scorpio , PE , Guererro , Malenko, Franchise , New Jack , RVD , Awesome , Rhino , Corino , Eliminators , Pitbulls , Rey , Psychosis , Tajiri , FBI , Etc, etc, etc .......they all fit like an extreme puzzle !
Here’s a couple questions for ya James: 1. How different would ECW have been had Sandman never left to go to WCW? 2. How badass was Lori Fullington for taking those sadistic as hell bumps from Rhino? 3. Do you think Sandman could’ve helped during the Invasion Angle? 4. What did you think of the Sandman vs Rhino feud in 2000?
1. Not much different; just Sandman would have been there 2. I give credit to every woman in ECW that ever took nasty bumps 3. He would have been a T-Shirt wearing Austin worshiper; which I could not see him be that(then again, he was Raven's rich neighbor Jim in WCW; so who knows) 4. One of the better things in ECW during that final year

In the Mount Rushmore of best characters in ECW, that goes to The Sandman easily by default. Because the beer drinking, cigarette smoking kickass character was perfect. One of the things I always loved was the crowd singing the song while he comes to the ring (one of the first instances of a crowd singing the entrance theme happening). As you said, whenever he lacked in the wrestling department, he made up for it with just bashing people's heads with a kendo stick.

His entrance is the greatest entrance in ECW's history. The Sandman's feuds with Tommy Dreamer, Cactus Jack, Shane Douglas, Mikey Whipwreck, and Raven are among the best feuds in ECW's History. It's so awesome. The Sandman proves that having a great character matter more than in ring quality. ECW had the best music ever. One I loved that I haven't seen mentioned is Tazz with War Machine by KISS. I have to say though that Natural Born Killers was my fave. It was so cool how the song just kept playing on repeat while the Gangstas were assaulting their opponents. I won't say RIP New Jack cuz I don't think he would want to do any of that shit. If there is a heaven Jack is up there getting high AF and whipping ass eternally. Valhalla for all hard Motherfuckers.

I think Mike Awesome’s just gonna be stuck in the hardcore division and be involved in the Hardcore title hot potato where Awesome wins the Hardcore title, lose it, repeat the cycle again.
He would have been better off going to the WWF instead of WCW; but I don't know if he would have been an unstoppable monster It would have been better than "That 70s Guy", that's for sure
The Sandman blinding angle was on one of the first ECW tapes I ever ordered along with Sabu vs Cactus and so much more . After that I was off to the races ! ECW was officially my fave promotion then , and I ordered 4 to 6 tapes a month trying to play catch up and getting all the new stuff at the same time as well . I couldn't get enough ECW !
I think a lot of people forget about the feud he had with Tommy Cairo that really put him on the map. He did a complete 180 in his presentation, and introduced everything that made him famous in ECW. Singapore cane, Metallica, t shirt and Zumba pants, woman, smoking, and beer. I just so happened to attend House Party ‘98 at the ECW arena on a freezing cold January night, and witness that stairway to hell match he had with Sabu, and they certainly tore the house down indeed. Lots of memories from those arena shows.
