This show has a soft spot in my heart for one reason only: This was the show where The Rock debuted his "Know Your Role (New Version)" theme song from the "WWF: The Music, Vol. 04" CD, which I maintain to this day is the true G.O.A.T. of all The Rock's theme songs, and that is a hill I will die on, happily.
I remember Triple H was forced to wrestle a special gauntlet match against the other six pack challenge competitors with each match carrying the specialty of each competitor Kane-inferno match Mankind- boiler room brawl Rock- strap match Undertaker- casket match (Mideon and Viscera replaced Taker due to the latter’s injury) Big Show- chokeslam match Also, Triple H thought he won the match by shoving one guy in the casket but he has to shove TWO opponents in the casket!
Dudley Boyz vs APA is a hidden gem for me because it was a straight up back and forth brawl with neither team getting the advantage over the other. It's similar to DX vs the Nation from Over the Edge 98.
WWF Unforgiven 1999 is an ok show. D'Lo Brown vs Mark Henry is a solid match. Chyna vs Jeff Jarrett is a good match. Edge And Christian vs The New Age Outlaws is an ok match. Al Snow vs The Big Bossman is a bad match. It's easily the worst match of The Attitude Era. I felt bad for both guys. The Big Bossman had a career renaissance in late 1998 - 1999 with his heel run, but he was apart of the two worst matches of WWF 1999: The Hell In The Cell vs The Undertaker at WrestleMania 15 and The Kennel From Hell at this PPV. Chris Jericho vs X-Pac is a decent match. The Six Pack Challenge is a very good match. It's one of the most underrated main events of The Attitude Era. The star power in this match is amazing.
- Can we agree on one thing that the Fall of 1999 for wrestling in general is a great talking point due to how chaotic the storylines were that you could write a book or…winkwinknudgenudge make an episode of “From the Vault” on it? - Your thoughts on the Referee Strike Storyline and do you think they could pull this angle off today? - Do you think if they played it safe and made Boss Man Vs. Al Snow Steel Cage, Hell in a Cell, or a new cage stip you think we would remember this match more fondly…Pepper stuff be damned? - If Taker wasn’t hurt and if Vince still held the Belt, do you think the 6 Pack Challenge would have been good…or would you have added Davey Boy and Triple H to make it an 8 Pack Challenge? (Edit: So it went HHH & Taker, then Vince replaces HHH, finally Bulldog replaces Taker) - Do you think we would have been able to handle one more month of Russo madness at that time? - Your thoughts on WWF using Licensed Music using Rage Against the Machine during the show for example, do you think 1999 would have been too early for Jim Johnston or WWE to try and get Licensed Music for PPVs? - Finally, as funny as the Chaz Beatdown segment was…can we agree that the Chaz/Marianna Angle was one of the most notable times WWF went to far. Also , sorry it’s been a while I’ve done this, and…it’s the Fall of 1999 gotta make these questions overbooked…within reason.
1. Was an interesting storyline to do; wouldn't work well today 2. Vince would have always given the belt up & it would have just been the Six Pack Challenge with HHH/Rock/Mankind/Taker/Show/Kane with Austin as the Enforcer 3. Yes 4. Was great to see them used licensed music 5. That was a storyline that should have never made it passed the writing room(never make air)
This was solid to okay at best. Maybe take two to three matches off the card and it wouldn't have mattered. I understand the Kennel fron Hell match deserve the rep that it gets just because of the build to the match itself. You even said this and I agree wholeheartedly, credit for Al Snow and Bossman trying to make it work. The worst gimmicked matches in my mind are: Kennel from Hell, Reverse Battle Royale in TNA, Punjabi Prison match, and the Triple Cage match 2000 era WCW. If they wanted to get everyone on the card, that's all fine and well, but this show here, as I said, take maybe two or three matches off the card and it wouldn't have mattered.
To be fair James, even RUSSO hates the Kennel from Hell match. Listen to a few shoot interviews by him. Even he admits the match was horrible. Also, here’s a few questions for you. 1. If Russo didn’t leave WWF, never went to WCW, how do you think he would’ve done during WWF’s greatest year of 2000? 2. Do you think Russo was justified in leaving the WWF in the way that he did? Why or Why Not? 3. How different do you think this match would’ve been if Taker worked this match? 4. Should Bulldog have won the WWF title at this time? Even for just a day or two? 5. What do you think Russo’s legacy in the WWF is?
I've heard him talk about it; I don't blame him either for not liking it 1. I don't know how things would have gone 2. Yes he was, especially after what VKM said about his family(the "hire a nanny" quote) 3. Not much; though Taker wouldn't have done much because of his injuries 4. Depends on the story they could have told; maybe, but not sure 5. He was the writer of the show during its hottest period ever; deserves credit for the success
Questions 1. What did you think of that regular refs went on strike 2. Even though triple h won the 6 pack challenge who did you think should have won me the rock 3. Which bossman cage match was worse hell in a cell vs undertaker at Wrestlemania 15 or kennel from hell match vs al snow unforgiven 99.
This show is significant, because it’s the last one Vince Russo was involved in before leaving the company. As for the actual show itself…. It wasn’t great. Chyna should have won the IC title here, but instead was changed to a weird false finish with Tom Pritchard being involved in this. Most definitely a political play there. As far as the infamous Kennel From Hell match is concerned ….yeah, I got nothing 😂
Hot take…this has to be tied with one the worst PPVs produced by the WWF in the whole Monday Night War. I know, I know; WCW 2000…but WWF only, this, SummerSlam ‘99 and WrestleMania 15 have to be three of the worst WWF pay-per-views in the whole war.
During the whole MNW, WWF only, there were a ton of bad PPVs in there: A lot of the In Your House's Summerslam 96 Wrestlemania 13 The bulk of the 1999 PPVs
Watched that kennel from hell match a few times on daily motion a few years ago and it's just as bad as mentioned in the video and what everyone said it was.

A lot of people would say the worst gimmick match is the Punjabi Prison match, but it all comes down to the way it's executed.
You've already done Survivor Series '99, and I assume that tomorrow you'll upload your No Mercy '99 video. Will you be doing Armageddon in December?

10:14 ladies and gentlemen, WWF in the Summer of 1999.

I think the concept of a steel cage and he’ll in a cell in one match could work; just do it with main eventers and no animal involvement.
good video
If D'Lo managed to get solid matches out of both Mideon and Mark on PPV then he should've been elevated higher
D'Lo really suffered due to Russo leaving & the Droz incident 9 days after this(mentally he was never the same after that)

2. Even though triple h won the 6 pack challenge who did you think should have won me the rock
3. Which bossman cage match was worse hell in a cell vs undertaker at Wrestlemania 15 or kennel from hell match vs al snow unforgiven 99.
1. Was what it was
2. No; Triple H winning was the right call here
3. Unforgiven 99 against Al Snow
I wonder if a double steel cage could work in this day and age with a lot of these modern arenas
They did try another Double Steel Cage style match with the Punjabi Prison & that didn't work well at all
Worse gimmick match well the kennel from hell match.
It sounds like a cool idea. Just didn't go right lol. Gotta feel bad for boss man and al snow.
@@makaveli4205 not only that this was bossman second worse cage match in 1999
13:56 And I don't want to think about it what they did

Especially considering the situation that came up with Jeff the following month at No Mercy

It wasn't the wrestlers fault. Gotta feel bad for them.
