Confused swede here 😅 I googled around a bit and it seems like the basis for this recipe is Swedish ( or at least I recognize it). The ring of dough is the correct way but the filling is weird. We have a bunch of different braided types of sweetbread with some different fillings. But I don't think I have ever seen raisins in this typ of pastry. Some examples of fillings I feel are more Swedish: Cinnamon & sugar Almond paste (usually homemade with shredded almonds, sugar and butter). Custard Pistachio paste (made like the almond paste) I can agree to the simple glaze, even if I don't see it often on this type of thing it's not something I would say is too weird. The cherries though, no, no, no. I have never even heard of those cherries outside of American recipes. I do understand that some of these things might have been changed with time and with the Swedish immigrants making their own spin on it. But I felt obligated to leave this comment to speak for native Swedes about this topic.
@lazerapes I wondered if this was authentic and suspected it was not because I haven't seen marachino cherries in any but American recipes. Thank you for letting us know how the Swedish sweet breads usually are. I wish Tasty would pin your comment to the top so everyone could read it.
