Those who think its too far fetched/crazy to reduce the reach. It's really not... Longer fork by 10mm, not a big deal that reduces reach. Riser bars, everyone practically runs them now, not a big deal. Shorter stem, many people run short stems, not a big deal. Leaving the stack higher from the steer tube, not a big deal. It's all no factor. But why do this and not just get a Medium? Because the Medium reach is 456, too small for me. The only next size is XM and reach is 478, large jump. What I did decreased that jump, which gives me a more balanced feel and I'm not leaning forward on the bars. I would rather have the longer wheel base in XM than shorter in the medium as well.
I think you would have enjoyed the medium size better. Ibis' sizing guide is pretty bad. That's a huge top tube length and wheelbase for 178cm tall person. Could have just used a 10mm longer stem and more conventional steer tube length to get the same reach you gave yourself here.
I agree. I kinda think their medium is a little smaller than I would like but I knew the XM was going to be a massive increase. Plus they only do full 29 wheels only in XM on up. I don’t understand why the massive gaps in size between medium and XM, in reach numbers. I got it where I like it but, yeah probably could have just run a 50mm stem and moved the seat back. I still would run the riser bars though, love em.
@ thanks for making the video! I have a medium v2 ripmo and I’m the same height as you and I’ll probably go with the medium v3. I’ll build it from a frame and just do 29er in back.
Ok. I am thinking of switching sb160 to ripmo (your version) or sb165. I like the versatíity of ripmo frame but dont want to compromise capability too much.
Part of its agility is its ability to climb, still does this very well. The bike front tire is still easy to lift up for manuals too. The bike can jump really well and stay agile with... With the use of your rebound. If you have a FOX X2 or a Vivid, you can dial in the rebound for more playful or more stuck to the ground. More spacers will also make the rear more playful, less spacers will make it track the ground superb. So long answer, it won't lost lose it's agility depending how you set it up. It makes for such a dynamic bike. I kept my 230X60 shock as well. Now I don't need the HD6!
Why not just go with the medium size? I'm 5'10 as well and I almost always am a medium based on Lee McCormick "RAD" sizing. It does come down to personal preference though.
Well, I just wanted to try something different this time. However, the extra medium has an insanely large reach. Which was why I did so many things to bring it back manageable. Plus it’s the one that comes 29er.
@@boardie00 Hi, I will share the link to MTBR page in the Ibis forum. The guys in there break it all down. However, you can also get it on the Ibis website. But here is the MTBR page link where they discuss it with pictures, see post #880: www.mtbr.com/threads/ripmo-v3.1202069/page-44 Cheers
I also leave the fork steer tube uncut for awhile, I got my trance x29 in may 2023 gone through two aftermarket forks then just about a month ago after finding the final fork/stem configuration I finally cut the tube leaving just over 1.2 cm over the headset cover 😅 still makes me nervous everytime but screw that chimney look 😂 Ripmo look sick AF btw, the best color 😍
I suspect you are asking on the Vivid? If so, yes. I have run it with 1, 2, and now 3 volume reducers. I have settled on 3. Keeps the traction, climbing and playfulness.
@ I was talking about the SDL ,it does have the XL can where you can do the same with the black spacer to form up the midstroke or make it more plush .
@@mattbyrne1732 I like the Zeb over the Fox, easy to set up, super quiet, really smooth. As I said in the video, I don't know what Ibis would think of this in terms of their warranty. Since it doesn't touch the seat tube, I don't think it would, but I don't know.
Depends on what you are looking for. If you want a bike that can get more traction, more stability, then yes. If you want a new frame design, no color, yes. If you want a mullet ability, yes. IF you want to try it at 160mm yes. If you want to also own a Ripley, then yes. But I will leave the answer to you.

Great film.. Lots of helpful info and tips
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow man you knocked it out of the park with this video. Thanks for sharing your insights and your build!
I wonder if Greg Callaham also runs his Ripmo at 230x65. Good video, thank you!
I have a strong feeling....

Hi, thanks for the great video! Can you do a quick comparison of your upgraded Ripmo with the YETI SB160? Thanks
Working on something… ha, you read my mind.
Ok. I am thinking of switching sb160 to ripmo (your version) or sb165. I like the versatíity of ripmo frame but dont want to compromise capability too much.
Do you think the ripmo v3 lost any agility and pedal efficiency compared to the V2 in favor of more stability and downhill capability?

love that new frame. I got a ripmo af last year and loveee it. just picked up a YT capra for hawaii.
Pretty interesting find with the longer stroke shock. I wonder if that will also work for the V2's.
@Low__expectations V2 doesnt really have the clearance around the BB shell for this, has been done on the ripmo AF I believe
No, it won't work with V2S. That bike uses a different shock size and the rear tire get close to the seat tube.
Did you get a special tune for the vivid or is it standard?
Totally stock off the shelf tune.
What hardware do you need to install the Vivid?

Thinking about swapping the 36 on my v3 for a zeb, any downsides you noticed?
Also do you know if running 160 in the rear will void any warranty’s?

You changed so much, is it still a Ripmo V3?
Sure is... Its still amazing in new way, so many usages makes is such a dynamic great bike.
