I finally went exploring last week and found the climbing trail. Didn't find the same descending trail (was looking for those rock slabs), but was blown away by how severely the gopro effect minimizes the severity of these trails that you use for reviews (including the climb, bloody hell)
Great review man. The pedal efficiency always held me back from the V2. Nice to see they have addressed that. I would love to see you review a Yeti sb140 or 160.
I love my v2 sentinal. The v3 seems more refined. Just keeps getting better. I was already thinking of steepening the ht angle so that should help on techy climbs with and angle headset.
@@highrever140ss for sure, it’s good to see the longer, slacker, lower settle down. The new suspension curve also helps a ton keeping the bike high in its travel.
Dig your style and reviews. Especially like the trails you use for your videos. More untamed and rugged. Downed trees, getting stuck with blackberry bush thorns, etc…. Reminds me of my local trails. Wish Transition would loose the internal routing and in frame storage. Do love the name Boombox though.
I'll really trying to work with Ibis, but still haven't gotten a solid response. I was thinking of picking up a Ripley for a long term review, but maybe the Ripmo is more the way to go.
The high water bottle mount is nice. I have a carbon RM Instinct, but this is the bike I would probably consider, if wanting a bigger bike... they made it longer. It was a long bike before, but the geo refinements put it solidly in the all-mountain category now. The Sentinel and the Spire were too close before.
I like the shock comes with new RockShox linear XL Air can Standard. Bought it aftermarket and it made my super deluxe more plush with more midstroke support
Great review. I had the v1 sentinel and the v2. Really liked both but have found I’m pretty happy with mx wheel bikes lately. I’ll wait to hear how you like the mx wheel set up on this bike because it does slacken it a bit more, which could make it less well-rounded? I’d be interested in how this compares to your Bronson and Nomad and your general thoughts on 29” vs mx bikes. I personally like how fast I can spin up a mx wheel bike and I like how they feel cornering and jumping. It’s hard to quantify though and I live in Phoenix with a lot of square edges. Seems like something with the option to switch from 29 to mx would be pretty sweet. 29” locally and 27.5 for bike parks, and trips to UT, California, WA and Canada. Thanks for the great content
Great review. I ride really rocky terrain and was curious how this does on rock gardens and rocky style terrain. I have a small Sb130 LR and feel like that bike is really stiff. I was curious with the longer wheelbase and additional travel if you think this may be a better option in rocky terrain.
I think there is a lot of overlap in the two bikes and still Transition did a great of making them distinct. Because you can increase the capability of both you could set the Smuggler up to easily take on the Sentinel but in a more XC, big miles package. The longer reach and lower front make for a bike that feels more traditional race but not like you're on top and going to break your collar bone. The Sentinel is happy to do the big rides of the Smuggler but more comfortably and not quite as efficiently. Then if you really wanted you could stretch the Sentinel to a full enduro bike. I'm going to try and touch on that more in the longterm review that's coming Friday.
@NICADV much appreciate your feedback. I was able to demo the Smuggler a while back and immediately I felt good on the bike...playful and comfortable. Demoed (not a legit trail though) the V2 Sentinel and did not feel "comfortable". Probably my brain telling I might need more travel in wanting to try the new Sentinel. Reality is that I would likely be fine on 90 percent of trails I would ride. Anyway thanks for your thoughts as it brings me back home to being more realistic. Will still Demo the Sentinel in the Spring here in Colorado. Looking forward to your long term thoughts. Cheers!
@@NICADV fair enough! have you ridden the patrol? it would be a close comparison already. i was considering a patrol for a frame swap in the future, so i'm curious how the sentinel rides as a mullet in comparison.
Guys, what really impressed me is the area where you ride and live. If these are your daily home trails then damn … you can ride!
@@Mmtwgr thanks, it’s crazy looking back just a few years when I move here and how things have changed

@@tommelom2 thank you so much!
Another awesome video buddy. Love the look of this and that colour rocks! Tempted with this or the Stumpjumper 15.......
Thanks! So far I would go this way, but the Specialized is surprisingly light.
Better thorns from a blackberry bush than falling off that cliff! Gnarly climb!

Agree, at least on paper. I did find the Spire way out performed the V2 at least for what I ride.

It would certainly help. Virginia Canyon is pretty rocky and Cub Creek is a super chunky and fast trail. I would also lean toward the 30-33% sag.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this Sentinel vs the Smuggler

Review the updated Specialized Status 2 170. It’s a ripper
@@bikes4lifebaybee I’m super interested in that one, unfortunately Specialized closed their experience center in Squamish. I’m still working on it!
@@NICADV that’s too bad. You should really get your hands on one. I don’t think you’d be disappointed
Thoughts of this against the Yeti SB140? I'm considering both.
I like them both but the Yeti feels more like a light weight. I prefer it for big days and the Sentinel for big moves.
What would be your pick over Sentinel or Stumpjumper 15? So many bikes out now.
@@ishamw2329 I’m leaning Sentinel, but since I have more time I want to try a few things out.
@@NICADV thanks, I’m going to try and ride both bikes soon. Looking forward to your next videos and maybe thought on Sentinel as MX.
How is the paint holding up on the new bike? Does it chip or flake off easily like some previous Transitions?
I’m not sure I will have the bike long enough to comment on that, but if it comes up I’ll definitely let you know.
is rear coil shock compactible ?
Yes it is!
I would be interested in how this rides at 160 rear with a 27.5 wheel compared to the patrol
I'll be doing the 27.5, but unless Transition supplies the rear shock I don't have the💵

5'11" or 180cm on a size large
