The bees and yourself I think were meant to meet. You have more hives, plenty of work to for you both. They are happy to have a keeper. I am very proud of you both. To think when you came to them and they calmly accepted help. thank you for beeing caring for their welfare. How much are hives these days? I will look it up. But keep up the much needed work with bees we all need them. If we want to have good crops and sweet treats they offer.

I have a few hives in the keilor area and have found this year, the harvest, to be very poor. The hives look reasonably strong, but the honey supplies low. I'm just happy to keep the bees strong for winter.
Your situation looks very similar to mine. Let's hope next season is a normal one.
The naughty hive 😂 I call mine the overachiever hive love her cause that have is ALWAYS the one that saves my others (well now I two overachievers so I snag from them when need be).
How easy is beekeeping when you have resources! I love it.
Hard Spring, we had a very wet one here and then right into Summer. Looks like yours was similar but more so, seems pushing them into singles was the right plan.
The biggest issue was that I wasn’t prepared
May 2023 and my hives managed to store basically zero nectar and little pollen all spring and summer. Rain all spring and the plants just didn’t flower. Have been feeding since the start of April.
I’m not a fan of feeding. It’s a lot of work and really only benefits the weaker genetic lines that need the boost.
Phew! Glad your apiary recovered beautifully.
Our bees have struggle this year, especially new hives from swarms. Not sure about a honey crop - there’s still 50% of the season left.

My hives in Victoria were the same. Hundreds of dead bees because of the shit weather. We are considering moving to northern NSW because of the crap weather.

The winter wasn’t bad. It was the spring the never eventuated that was the issue.

One question I have from this video is... you have pulled out a few frames with cups on them and even a couple of established queen cells but have left them in there. Why is this?

Queen cups are a funny thing. Bees make them even when they have no intention of using them so they aren’t a concern. It’s been a while since I did this vid so I can’t remember if there were charged ( full of royal jelly and egg) but if they were I would think I would have done something. It if o didn’t it’s really not an issue.

White Hive being on the end of the Apiary might also be catching some Drift as overloaded forger return and lands at the first box she gets to = bigger numbers. Also does it get the early morning sun so it warms up before its neighbors and they get out earlier??
As a northern hemisphere bee keeper my southeast hives get first light and always kick off before the others, the hives on the SE end or the one facing an open field/flight path also seem to collect drifting forgers especially at the end of the day.
-25C here right now, bees are insulated in wraps and its ~ 2 to 7 C inside the hives.
Yes it’s 100% possible that there is some drift although most times I’m there the bees head forward out of the hives and return the same way.
The queen also seems to produce and enormous amount of brood. Normally walk to wall and as many brood boxes as if tried ( 3 maximum so far ). Check out the “white hive” playlist. It’s always huge.
I don’t know how you guys do it in the cold like that.

@@aussiebeekeeping There's an old Joke : 6 months of winter and six months of bad skiing ( downhill skiing that is )
Like you it is so Local Micro-Climate weather dependent on the bee keeping season. I have a River Valley that has various micro-climates so it does vary even though they might only be 3 km away from each other.
Avg about 5 months under insulated wraps, November to March. Or inside a custom built dark-insulated cold building.
April cleansing flights and early build based on internal stores of pollen, honey and feed supplements.
May-June the wild trees, willow, aspen and ash bloom which then kicks off serious brood.
July - August are the Heavy flow in my area.
September you get a little bit of the late season pollen from some flowers but no real nectar.
October - Cut them down to two box's, Feed Pollen Sub, Sugar sub and Varroa treatments. So the bee's that raise your winter bee's are healthy.
Late October - Early November wrap them up and walk away - nothing you can do after that time.

With all that blooming and nectar flow, stop feeding. Get supers on all those hives. Seems like should have had a supers added a week or two ago.
You would think so. 2 months on and they are still border line starving with hardly any stores.
With inclement weather patterns like the world is experiencing now, the Beekeeper must adapt to it just like the bees have to, check your hives twice as often and let the bees tell you what they need to survive, ( creation is not an event, ) but an ongoing process, .......
