      I think it's about as good as it can get honestly, the way FFXIV's combat works and with things like server ticks, it's never going to be as responsive as a game like WoW or BDO. This doesn't mean pvp in FFXIV can't be fun, it's just kinda always going to be relegated to a side activity, instead of a potentially primary way of playing the game like in WoW.

As someone who hasn't yet reached Shadowbringers endgame content, it's nice to have accessible, competitive challenges like the PvP modes or some Gold Saucer content like Lord of Verminion Tournaments! Honestly, I just love the variety of experiences available in the game.

    It's not, and as a newer player who just recently tried it, I wish people who don't like it/meme on it didn't tell people it's not worth their time so they can come to their own conclusion. I'm sure many new players would try it and enjoy it if not for that, and it perpetuates the modes lack of consistent players.

    My biggest complaint with pvp as a new player with interest in it is that there's nothing telling you what the objective is/what you're supposed to be doing. I have a lot of fun playing my daily frontline, but I barely have a clue as to what you're supposed to be doing to score points after about 30 or so runs of it. My best guess is you're supposed to fight over nodes and then occupy them lol. It's a lot of fun to fight against other players, especially once you get your sea legs with the pvp hotbar, but the fact that almost everyone has no clue what they're actually supposed to be doing is limiting the potential of the game modes.
    I also queued for the feast once and then never again because the queue time was almost an hour long and, once again, I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. Even something like a super quick message that flashes on your screen that says "Capture the nodes!" or something before the players are released into the field would be enough.

    A buddy of mine and I just started PvP’ing about 3 days ago, I was absentmindedly looking at the armor sets you could earn and shared the Lionliege set with him. (he’s a Paladin main still going through HW) Seeing how nice all the sets looked and seeing that it was content we could both benefit from equally since glamour is true endgame, we dove into Frontlines and The Feast and honestly had a blast figuring things out and working together to take out enemies. It’s actually helped convince some of our old WoW group to make plans to give the game a try after the disastrous last year or so of Shadowlands plus the nightmare situation at the studios. I appreciate that like everything else they add, this is evergreen content. You can sit there and grind out every single armor set for every single class and that never gets invalidated as time goes on. I’m really looking forward to unlocking some of the Stormblood and Shadowbringers sets, as well as some of those cool titles for getting your PvP rank up.

      I'm unsure as to why WOW players consider that game the pinnacle of PVP when WOW PVP was horrible and continues to be horrible, they even went as far as to have PVP gear which is completely the opposite of fair lol. I've also come to the conclusion that WOW PVPers are literally so red pilled that they think that WOW PVP is the pinnacle, though it's really sad to say that even though Blizzard pumped soooo much money into it with the esports failures that it still didn't take off it's still considered as a template is super sad. Basically everyone found out that running macros and pillar humping was the jist of what made WOW PVP fun and now thats all you see. Even the high end use macros to automatically do said thing rather then skillfully reacting to a situation. If you want some examples of actual decent PVP, GW2 does it pretty well, and TESO even has moments when the servers aren't on fire. However FF14 is not the place to go if you are looking to do some PVP....

    When I tried pvp I hated it. It was constantly just "how fast can we cc lock a healer to get kills." Healers are just too broken. I feel like they need them to be dialed back for most people like myself to try it again.

    • @steveodude
      @steveodude 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you guys focusing healers thinking that’s the thing to do in pvp? Honestly, there are much easier targets to kill than the healers, like ranged dps. Also making sure you’re organizing your damage into the smallest windows possible for burst to kill people in 2-3 seconds is the ideal before they can react or cast. It gets more fun with proficiency. Hit up someone on your DC for tips. Or just ask me if you want. Most pvpers are down to help you.

      @@steveodude I already gave up trying to get into pvp awhile ago. But its just a pain in the ass when smites/bursts are the only way to kill people. Pvp may be fun but from my perspective its the most boring version of pvp out there. Its like wow pvp without the pace and danger.

    • @steveodude
      @steveodude 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ManicByMidnightShow To each their own but I wouldn't judge it when you're starting out so harshly, because from experience (both mine and people I've helped) it's something that gets more fun the better you get at it. I'm not quite sure I understand the comparison, because coordination leading to well timed bursts with limited cc timing is actually much faster paced and dangerous than WoW. I've played both to the higher ratings so I don't know what you're specifically referencing.

    • @theperfectbeing
      @theperfectbeing 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@steveodude Dude get out of here, there is nothing in FF14 that is faster paced than wow in any category. They are entirely different games with dramatically different combat systems. The difference is GCD alone in combination with haste puts WoW pace just under that of an FPS/MOBA at high levels. The timing of interrupts, CCs, gap closers/escape mechanics. FF14 just doesn't have that and you don't get the same satisfaction because there is a lower skill ceiling.
      That's why wow has a 15yr history of constant pvp videos and compilations, to show case class mastery, ridiculous builds and crazy plays.

    I started playing Final Fantasy a few days ago and just had my first PvP experience.
    There is no real introduction that teaches you to PvP.
    I joined frontline to check it out as my first PvP experience. And first I joined, I had to read all my skills, because non were familiar. I had skills I've never seen before, combos I didn't understand and then the match already started. So I was basically just running and dying to ranged and aoe attacks in seconds, no way to run, no way to actually learn for what my skills are good.
    Frontline was also the first 24 player group and my unchanged standard UI for allied races was in the middle of my screen blocking everything. I haven't changed anything about the UI other than dragging the target list a little closer to the center and adjust one hotbar. Joining frontlines and almost see nothing, because both allied parties are in the center of my screen together with 2 or 3 gauges that had no explanation to it, is also not a great way to start PvP.
    So if I didn't HEARD about some of the PvP aspects, I would probably never come back ever again. This was the worst first time PvP experience I have ever had and I am not even joking. PvP is way too different to regular combat, that I was basically doing all game.
    The game teaches you basically every single most obvious mechanic in some form, but PvP that literally changes your hotbar, like you are playing a completely new class and then expect you to do fine in a new raid.
    There should be some sort of scenario that prepares you for PvP battles, so you know how to adjust your hotbar and understand your skills beforehand and not in the middle of a match or over outside sources that explains you the basics. A simple questline that puts you in PvP mode against some training dummies would have been more than enough to get at least an idea of what to expect.

    The biggest problem with PVP is that the game mode that has a daily challenge has a 66% mathematical lose chance that you basically can't play around. Frontlines are mathematically against you. And the fun game modes like Rival Wings and Feast don't have a daily challenge. It boggles my mind how they keep putting the worst game mode at the front and the good game modes at the back.

    I think the FFXIV community in general has a massive issue with calling content garbage. ARR,POTD/HOH and PvP are all pieces of content people say is bad.
    When i starter playing ff14 i kept reading about how bad ARR was and to just skip it and watch a recap. Still regret doing that becaus when i started following the story closely in HW i didnt have any context to alot of the events or anything the characters were talking about or the rules of the world despite watching a recap. When Asmongold started playing ff14 i experienced ARR all over again through him and things make so much more sense now and i also came to realize that ARR isnt even that bad.
    Same goes for PvP. I only tried it after playing 1000 hours becaus people kept saying how bad it was and it turns out it isnt even that bad.

      The huge issue is that people in general cannot say "i don't like X thing" and give good reasons, they always have to say "this thing is garbage, so that's why i don't like it.
      Why is it garbage? Who knows, just make something up, but it's garbage and i don't like it.
      ARR isn't garbage, it's long, that's it. The pacing and feel of the story is far better after ARR ends, yes, but ARR isn't "garbage" by any means.

      It's just hyperbole that people use that isn't necessarily just limited to the FFXIV community but the gaming community as a whole and really just people in general are silly and say exaggerated stuff to overemphasize how they feel about things. They are stupid and are probably pretty socially inept so there really isn't much we can do about it besides to remind these people of how dumb they are and that their useless opinions mean nothing to no one.

      I didn't know people disliked ARR, the two Deep Dungeon and PvP... especially ARR... that caught me off guard, as so many players talk about on how good the story is.
      Although, I'm a completely new player on the free trail and currently going through ARR as a White Mage (Level 51 currently). I'm believe I about midway through the ARR story line (the quest is around level 36-37) and overall I've been enjoying it so far, the story feels like one of those simple but humble beginning type of stories to me that guides you to when things get real later.
      For POTD and HOH, I haven't tried those yet but they seem interesting for side content from what I looked up.
      And for PvP... I haven't tried it either since I'm not really confident in using my hotkeys well yet for such a thing. However, I always did enjoy PvP in other MMOs (when gear is equalized) so it's something to I'm looking forward to later.

      That's actually one of the biggest issues of PvP. Healers must be killable. They are primary targets, it's okay if they can survive and defend themselves, it is not okay if everyone must burn EVERYTHING to kill the healer and the healer still do not die. Because strategies in PvP end up with peeling for the healer, protecting it, making it lose LoS of the targets, etc, etc. If the Healer is just unkillable and can do whatever and also do not suffer with mana problems, then what's the point?

    Yoshida's team not having enough resources or budget has always been something holds EVERYTHING back in FFXIV.
    He has said multiple times that they have ideas or that they love community ideas and want to add them, but they can't because their budget simply does not allow them to do it. Most of the PvP issues truly come from the fact the devs simply cannot fix or add stuff as much as they would like because they legitimately do not have the time and resources to do it.

    Love your content and great commentary. With just over 4.4K pvp Frontlines matches myself, I could tell you that I’ve met my closest ffxiv friends via pvp; also done the work to rank #1 in June. That being said, I don’t “Feast” because it’s more about metrics and process vs frontlines that is so dynamic; due to 72 players on the field of battle. If you have anyone that would like to dip their toe in the water, I’d be more than happy to help! It’s 95% of my playtime.
    As long as the autonomy of FFXIV pvp style is understood to be different from all the other online pvp games, its going to be enjoyable for anyone. In general, compared to other games, there is way less toxicity. Now what’s fun, in frontlines you can hunt the toxic people and teaching those players a lesson or two is always fun! Haha.

    It's a shame it is neglected. It is another aspect that could add to FFXIV MMO domination. They should have a space for all types of players and the ball is dropped here. Unfortunately I don't see them investing the resources it needs into it anytime soon. Maybe with the recent surge of players (myself included) they may have more future resources. PVP is good endgame content and I'm interested. It will take more of the community to bullhorn it. And I see a lot of the community say it as a lost cause so they ignore it when they should be saying, "Hey this isn't up to snuff so please work on it."

Started with Frontline and it was quite a bit fun although sometimes frustrating when your team just gives up. I was watching you do some 4v4 Feast ranked and decided I'd give this a try next. I main healer and felt more comfortable going in as WHM. I had a blast. One instance there was a WAR on the enemy team and I thought to myself "he's going to run at me". Sure enough he did and I took him for a jog around the area. He simply couldn't kill me on his own and he was really trying. His team lost because of his actions. This is the third time in my life I'm enjoying a PvP game - and I certainly did not expect that going into FF14.
    Definitely my favourite thing about PvP is the job design - it is much more, for lack of a better term, *concise* than in PvE. And while some jobs are very different due to their PvE incarnations being either impractical in the gamemode (Black Mage, who got a whole bunch of instant casts) or using unsupported mechanics (Scholar and Summoner, specifically), all that I've tried are *fun.* Astrologian's cards are a 20% damage boost (lord) or reduction (lady), lilies bloom every 10 seconds and regen is rolled into lily heals, Gunbreaker's Aurora is a 3000 potency upfront heal with 15 seconds of 600 potency regen on a 15 second cooldown (what the hell), tanks have a *lot* of healing from damage, Dancer has 3 charges of En Avant and procs Fountainfall and friends with En Avant... everything is fun to play!

Feast especially, there's something really enjoyable about having the whole team dash at someone at the same time and mash cooldowns to destroy them. One thing I think would work perfectly with this would be a moba like game mode, where you keep the spirit of feast engagement but add mobs and positions to control / leveling. The game has all the systems pretty much already created for something like this to get produced, I don't think they'll ever put enough money into pvp to do something like this but I could totally see it being successful.

      Also because the pvp skills are separate from pve skills its like 100% easier to balance pvp. Verse games who are constantly struggling to keep the balance (eyeing you ESO).

    I am a huge fan of pvp. I wish they didn't randomize your affiliation for Frontline a and I also wish more people wanted to do rival wings it's my favorite pvp!

      You used to be locked in to your Grand Company, but then people started to stack the team really hard. 1 team would always dominate because the better players would join it, never giving the others even a slim chance at winning. It would also happen that 1 of the GC's would just have way less players that did PvP, so queues could be really long on the off-hours

    Pvp has some amazing glams, and I'm not just talking about Feast. If you have maxed out wolf marks, you need to go to the vendors. Kitsune glams, techno Allagan healer, nue and oni glams. "Chef kiss".

    Special type of gear, capture the flag, hold the site and last man standing with different maps to play it on. WoW has this down with modes, but they lack new content.

    PVP is so fun. It took me a minute to understand the flow, but I once I got into it, I got mad competitive.

    @Zepla HQ The link to the PvP Revival Discord is expired. Is it possible to put a non-expiring link?

    2:10 Frontline Roulette is probably one of the main reasons why Frontline is alive and also has one of the best exp rewards. You can get around 40%-50% exp of your level vs the 10%-20% you get from Dungeon Roulette.

    I think it's incredibly important that there *not* be dedicated PvP staff. Having seen lots of popular games with unpopular PvP try that in the past, what ends up happening is essentially a death sentence. The rest of the team will cease to feel *any* obligation to care about PvP in any way. It'll be the responsibility of the PvP "team" (usually one or two people) rather than them.
    It's not something that the main team can just shove off onto somebody who cares or PvP will *never* receive the support from squenix that it needs. Half-assing it will only result in a ton of disappointed players.
    Side note, as a glamour hunter, you're 100% on about the lackluster Feast rewards. My options are going turbo tryhard at least an hour a day for a full season to *possibly* get rewards (though on Aether that's a very small chance) or just give up on feast rewards. Rather than a structure that has rewards for everybody with some special goodies for the best of the best, the current Feast rewards amount to an absolute ton of stuff for a grand total of 400 (500?) people and nothing for anybody else. You cannot sustain an MMO PvP community off of less than half a thousand players.

    @ZelphaHQ, I watched /listened to your previous LS with Asmon and Rich. I need to say that yes there has been points in the game where I damn near cried. Gais arc was one of the most painful things I have have ever watched (As a soldier) that shit hurt alot. "The Black Wolf" become hero? That side quest hit me in the feels for real....
