So glad these are coming back. Our Family ditched our Firesticks awhile back. Seeing the writing on the wall as Amazon started to mess with sideloading and now launchers. The kicker was when they raised Prime to 140 a year. So now we use Android boxes and the NVIDIA Shield on our main TV. BEST decision ever. No longer tied to Amazon Prime and I can delete Prime from my boxes and reprogram Prime button for my own content! In other words, I get to use MY device as I see fit. Not as Amazon wishes!
Today i just bought 2 from local Walmart. One Walmart said there was a software problem with them so they had to send back. 30 miles away i drove to another Walmart and they said they have them and would sell. So i took a chance. Got home and tv speakers crackled and fuzzy screen and screen blinked off and on every 5-10 seconds. On both of them. Tried rebooting/restarting still did it. { this all happened after installing everything and signing in}. So for the hell of it i changed to my own HDMI cables and bammm! Works flawlessly. Both HDMI's that came with them are defective. Hope this helps someone/everyone.
Agree! I had an older model stock and it was slow and bloated. Bought the original Onn and it was significantly faster then Fire. I would not get the Fire Stick unless you're primary use it Prime content.
I'm impressed with this $20 streamer. Bought it just to tinker with and it's growing on me quickly. Firesticks are just just getting too pushy with their content, while making app small icons and insignificant. Roku is still my favorite being just mostly an app launcher (simple and sweet). But the Onn interface is nice. Does show suggestions, but they seem to be more appropriate (i.e. I actually will go thru the listings). Free Live channels are also a nice touch since it lumps all the offerings (via a guide) on a single screen.
@@mercedesbenzs600bash PPV, as in a boxing match, etc.? It basically runs google TV. Or are you referring to Netflix, Prime, etc. (that would be a 'yes')? Sorry, I probably didn't answer your question very well, I've never purchased a PPV (i.e. a boxing match). But googling 'google TV PPV', it appears to support PPV.
@Mark-hb5zf Yes PPV as far as boxing matches or any other PPV show or event and does it support live tv shows and the news,im really late to the party but i want to get rid of this $200+ a month cable bill???
i have been trying things out to get rid of my apple tv. im getting rid of all my apple shit. apple tv was the last thing . and I dont support amazon whatsoever anymore, so i tried out roku which was cool, then researched google / android tv. was trying to decide on a box. this ONN box does every single thing the roku ultra did for 20 dollars!! the roku ultra was 100!! this little thing is FUCKING amazing!! you can customize it, mod it, have custom launchers and more!! sooooo glad i returned roku and got this thing!! PLUS the power of android!
Not available at Canadian Walmart. Had this problem going back to the Xiaomi MI Box. Indie sellers might get them in but not for $20USD (under $30CAD)...
Hi! Can't seem to get a mouse toggle to work properly on my new onn 4k streaming box i can navigate but can't click on to anything like I can with my firestick! Regards John
Hey TM. I finally picked up one of those ONN streaming boxes. I had gotten one before that was the 2021 version and while the 2021 version looks like the 2023 version there’s a few things that I cannot find on the 2023 version. For example, I would like to access device changes so that I can rearrange the apps on the home page, but I cannot find the button to do so. On a Firestick there’s the button with three bars that allows you to do that but the OINN stick does not seem to have that. Nor can I find it anywhere under settings to change it. Might you be able to give me some info on that? Thanks!
I picked one up today. Not a big fan of Google TV layout which takes all your streaming services and makes recommendation rows by genres; vs Android TV layout which gives you a row and recommendations by streaming service. I know that's going to be a preference by choice. I could learn to live with that. My biggest issue is Google TV only allows recommendations and search by mainstream platforms. Therefore, there is no access to recommendations or search for your Emby library. I'm kinda feeling like that's a non-starter for me. Also, I had to sideload Emby.
HDR support is there! Previously I stated 'I don't believe it supports HDR'. I had it connected to my Sony 4k tv and the (Settings) resolution showed HDR. Then hitting the Display button showed HDR10 on my 4k ‘Mad Max -Fury Road’. They need to publicize this better! It's not at all stated on the box.
My question is are they going to pull what fire stick is doing and also all other streaming devices by blocking us from adding third-party apps because it's a Google product and not an Android my main concern is I won't be able to sideload any of the programs I enjoy because it's Google
Sideloading works on Google's own Chromecast w/ Google TV so I'm sure it should still support sideloading. I don't believe Google has ever removed side loading from a device ever, even Wear OS 2 and 3 smart watches can do side loading, even with smart phone apks. But worst case scenario, it can be returned to Walmart pretty easily. Just keep the receipt handy.
Hummmm I have the 2021 version and it's a great device no complaints but I purchased the new 3rd generation fire cube so that's all I use now but the Onn devices are great and you can't beat that price so I would recommend the Onn device
Personally I like the inn because of the user interface and the fact that it is android. But the Roku is a solid device and if it does what you need it to do, then I would keep it.
@Luis Santiago no game apps on Roku? If that’s what you meant then that is WRONG. I just downloaded a bunch of games today. Solitaire, connect 4, tic tic toe and there was so many more. But I just like the classic games!
