Hi Lon, I recently purchased one of these from Walmart and was kind of surprised as I didn't expect it to do all it can do. It has more storage then Firecube and NVIDIA Shield, Plus it has the hands free feature that Firecube has and at a $50 USD price it was a bit of a surprise that all you've mentioned is included in it. It's a nice box and a good value. Got the one with the "Free TV"/backlit buttons. One thing I found is that it currently doesn't support Sling TV, which I think has the best interface for FAST channels.
Actually, this can play content from any exFAT flash drive that I've attached, without formatting, while the original could not. That's a significant improvement, which helped convince me to stick with it.
Thanks Lon for this review. Just the extra memory, Ethernet plug and USB make it worth the extra cost. You would have to spend $30 to purchase a hub attached to the oll ONN to get the same thing if you needed Ethernet. I have the $20 ONN box and find it as good if not better than my original Chomecast with GTV. This actually looks pretty decent for the price. I need something for before bed and during workouts that can stream well. I had considered a Xbox Series S but don't really want to drop $300 when I'm mostly going to stream video. Assuming the Wi-Fi in this thing is solid (it'll have to stretch all the way to the other side of the apartment), I think I may just grab this. Being able to load up some old Google Play game purchases is a decent bonus, along with being able to use it offline with a USB drive. It honestly seems more consumer-friendly than other big name brands (like Roku), and that's something I'm happy to support. Honestly, I'm surprised it's coming from Wal-Mart, of all companies. 😅
When you had network issues, were you using Ethernet or WiFi? Other reviews have shown the WiFi is faster. Another review tested a USB Gigabit Ethernet adapter, and got over 400Mb.
I have only tried wifi on mines and it seems pretty fast with my wifi 6 network. I was running 4k movies from my Plex server over the wifi perfectly. So for that reason I am already happy with my purchase.
Should have came with a Gigabit Ethernet port instead of the obsolete 10/100 port. That would be more useful than the remote finder button or any of the other gimmicks.
I bought mine solely based on it having additional RAM. 3GB vs the normal 2GB makes a real difference in overall performance for the basics of just simply navigating interfaces.
I got Plex on now, Star Wars 4K remastered, smooth as glass. Kodi plays 20gb 4ks no problem. Tivimate live TV never a problem. The new Onn Pro, and a wifi 1g spectrum connection.
I got one of these and installed but the problem is when the TV is off and I ask question like "Hey Google how is the weather today?" the speaker of the TV box does not respond! I am sure that the TV box gets my question and it is answering but the voice is going to TV through HDMI cable even though the TV is off! Then when I disconnect the HDMI cable from TV and try again I get the answer from TV Box speaker! I don't know what is wrong but while the HDMI Cable is connected to TV and TV is turned off I can not hear any answer from my Google!
Amlogic has really gotten some mileage out of the S905 platform. I guess if it isn't broke reiterate. My LePotato SBC runs on the S905 1st gen been a good board.
I was looking to purchase it but I noticed the Walmart website mentioned that the streamer is only U.S. and Puerto Rico Compatible Only. Does that mean it can't be used outside the USA like in Singapore?
GOOD STUFF Lon, thanks for the real world review. I think this will be a popular choice since amazon is driving customers away in droves with its overbearing control & bloat. For instance, I'm just looking for something comparable to Firestick but with more storage & more control. I won't be using it for gaming so that doesn't concern me. As you said, it is disappointing that it won't play music like other assistant speakers do...I hope this gets added soon with an update.
I wonder if music only going through HDMI is related to TH-cam being ad supported and this is a gentle push to make you turn on a display? Google made an audio only Chromecast but quickly snuffed it out. Does it function differently with a music subscription?
I'm in the same boat, I'm ok with my Chromecast with Google TV at this time, navigating the interface can be a bit jenky at times, but other than that it does everything I as of it. I'm curious to see what version 2 has in stock.
Great video! I'm an Apple user and I learned a few things. I also have a Roku, but I much prefer Apple TV. I am so happy that Tablo FINALLY came out with an Apple TV app for their 4th gen model. I have the 4K one on my living room TV. I also have the old HD model that came out in 2015, which is currently on my bedroom TV. I'm amazed that it still updates to the latest tvOS. This is a long time for a streaming device to last. So even though the device is more expensive to buy, you can go a long time before you need to replace it. I also like the lack of ads and other clutter.
Thank you LON! 2:18 is the device showing up in Google Home? If so can you open it in Home, hit the settings cog (⚙️) then hit "Audio"? My Google Home devices have a setting for default music player output.
Not sure why companies are still putting 10/100 Ethernet on things. Is it that much cheaper? Otherwise, I say it's about time someone released a sub $100 Google TV device with ethernet and USB ports. Did you happen to test a USB camera and Google Meet? On a side note, I'm still wishing they would release these Assistant speakers with a headphone jack so it could replace the retired Chromecast Audio.
I'm glad you brought up the difference in remote. From what I was able to research before watching your video is there are 3 remotes and I located the model numbers to help
@@lionintu Onn 4K Pro boxes that include the premium remote appear to have manufacturing dates of 2410A, 2411A, and 2412A. Boxes that have dates of 2405A through 2408A include the standard remote. I have not yet seen anyone post about boxes labeled as 2409A.
Thanks for the well-done review. It's disappointing that there isn't a setting to send all Google Assistant audio to the internal speaker. OI thought this might truly be a 2 in 1 device, but the device is not a good option as a stand alone Google Assistant as I frequently get no audio when the TV is off. Cheers.
It looks good, but they say that the Dolby Vision on Netflix is always on. You have to manually turn it off, it that true? It should automatically knows when to turn it off.
@@kb-is1jn I mean that is true to a point. It can also be said that some developers are too lazy now a days that their apps don't work properly. The consumer is paying the subscription for the service, such as Netflix while the developers are getting paid to make a fully functional app. So who would you say is more at fault?
I received the same remote. I wanted to have the speaker to work with the TV. I have the Roku soundbar I use with my PC. I thought I could use the Onn in my bedroom. My TV there is very quiet. I want to add an ATSC3 tuner to it. As soon as a good option is available. If I were Walmart, I'd drop the $15 streamer. I would just feature the 4k and this one. I use Roku for my main TV. That is still my favorite. But these little boxes are great
There's definitely a market for people for the $15 one. Like my mom and my sister could give a s*** about 4K. And they've been able to get ridiculous deals on 1080p TVs as a result
Lon. You probably need to update this video. I have both Onn streaming boxes and the Onn Pro has an A55 processor and the Onn has an A35 processor. PERHAPS the version that you are reviewing was the Onn with an ethernet port. I will keep working with it. My goal is to play Rocket League on my TV.
Outstanding review! Having the Ethernet port, extra internal storage and the usb 3.0 port is the game changer for me. Wish it had gigabit port bit this will def stream content well and best of all its an all in one unit for what we need. Looks great, but i abandoned my shield and firetv max for apple tv. I just love the no ads and simple interface plus it works amazing with airpods. Infuse works great over kodi.
I dumped my Shield TVs too. Have an Apple TV in the living room and a Raspberry Pi 5 for the minor watching I do in the bedroom. Won't have any streaming box or streaming service full of ads. Sick of the same insurance ads over and over.
How well does the tablo app perform? On my firestick 4k max 1st gen it takes forever for the tablo app to load and navigate around. Playback, fast fwd and rewind are fine but opening videos and deleting videos suck.
Might as well use WiFi, as long as your network supports Wi-Fi 6 & your coverage is good those speeds will easily exceed what you get on that ancient Ethernet port.

Just got this and was very easy to set up. My one ? is what should the HDR setting be? Default is always Dolby Vision. Should this be changed? Will HDR 10 or HLG also play correctly? Please let me know. It is connected to a Sony A9S oled in my bedroom. TV supports all HDR formats.
The issue I can see is how often and what priority will this get for apps when there is an issue or an update? I have used almost every popular streaming device and all apps across different brands run and look differently. Some apps break on one device and do not on others. Some apps have extra features (Fubo on Apple 4K for example) and some don't. The developers have to be on top of updating the apps for these different platforms and I wonder how Onn will fare when something goes wrong.
@kb-is1jn I would spend $250 for an updated Shield TV Pro. All these cheap boxes are fine for secondary TVs but for my main TV I want a high end media device.
The 3 Walmarts within close enough driving distance of me STILL doesn't have these in stock. Electronic department said they haven't even heard of them yet... Guess I'll stick to my 2023 box...
The main reason that I purchased this was because of the lag on my Chromecast 4K with Google TV. I set this new Onn 4K Pro up, but I've been out of town so haven't had a chance to test it. Is lag an issue on this device?
Yes; this is a huge problem with the cheaper $20 Onn box also. They get extremely laggy. I’m not too optimistic this “Pro” box will fare any better in the longer term.
@@fryeguy115 No. I’m saying that I suspect the new Pro device will exhibit the same lag issues after a time as the other products - especially the cheaper $20 Onn box. It was pretty snappy when new too, but it doesn’t last long. Even the CCwGTV has suffered the same fate, albeit the hardware is nearing 4 years old there.
@@curtispavlovec oh okay I gotcha. Fingers crossed that it isn't true! Maybe this is the one lol. Maybe that extra gig of RAM was the turning point. Plus some software optimizations.

Three of them are 2 & 4TB Crucial X10 (exFAT, unpowered), and Sandisk 4TB (exFAT, unpowered). The fourth drive is an 8TB Seagate backup drive (NTFS, powered). The 2TB also failed to even be recognized while connected to a powered dock. However, the Onn. does recognize a 256GB Sandisk thumb drive (exFAT). Do you have any ideas on how to get my portable SSDs working? I'll probably return the Onn. if I don't get it figured out soon. Thank you!
In this case, "pro" just means additional connectivity from Ethernet and USB. I bet you were running into thermal issues with the GeForce Now session. It's a cheap device with expected outcomes. Thanks for the review!
I am surprised your external drive worked with your ONN. My drive didn't. My ONN also stalled after I downloaded an app not in Google's library using Downloader. If you limit your viewing to Google approved apps, it works well. I returned my ONN to Walmart for a full refund and will continue to use my Amazon Firestick.
Got mine ordered the other day and will be here monday it looks. Just grabbed the 20 dollar unit a bit ago to play with and can't wait to play around with this cheap thing as well.
Lon, since this has USB 3, do you think this would have enough power to be a Plex server or a Channels DVR server? It has the same amount of ram as the Shield does and that runs them both.
I'm facing an audio suttering issue on youtube on this device when it wakes up from the screensaver. Rebooting the decive fixes the issue. I hope they fix it with an update.
The Onn Pro Box runs good but, the video output quality is not as bright as other boxes. I have a Verizon Andoid Tv Box, The first Onn TV box, A NVidia Shield TV Pro 2017 and 2019 Box.. The verizon Box, The first Onn and second Box shows Brighter while the other boxes show the video quality slightly darker. You have to raise the brightness.. The Nvidia shield Tv Pro is not Vivid like the Verizon & The first and second onn boxes.
GeForce Now hasn't locked up for me at all, although I'm using a Wi-Fi 6 connection that delivers about 600 Mbps up and down. Surprised that Lon didn't at least try Wi-Fi in order to see if that made a difference. Also, would have preferred to see plex and USB 3.0 actually being tested, rather than just commentary about how poorly they both performed. Would have liked to see what does work in plex, rather than just commentary about what doesn't work. Also, USB 3.0 tests well for me. For example, it will allow a USB 3.0 gigabit ethernet adapter to deliver around 500+ Mbps. I'm hopeful that improved plex audio support may come with firmware updates, since the processor does support all of those formats.

I got Plex on now, Star Wars 4K remastered, smooth as glass. Kodi plays 20gb 4ks no problem. Tivimate live TV never a problem. The new Onn Pro, and a wifi 1g spectrum connection.
How’s the audio? Does the surround pasthrough?
LePotato?
This is so tempting! My Chromecast is starting to show its age. Should I wait for the new Chromecast or get this one....?
Wait until Google releases theirs.
Hopefully someone releases a box with updated specs to replace the Shield Pro. I highly doubt it though.
I got my answer about Onn 4K Pro device not being a better than Nvidia Shield for GAMING--even with his 10 Gig Eth/wifi! 😂Just the fact that you ACTUALLY TESTED this for us unlike so many other click-bait Ytubers is so AWESOME! Guys PLEASE SUB to this guy if you havent already. He's one of the few tech reviewers that ACTUALLY TESTS these devices like a Pro-sumer and ANSWERS questions we all want to know unlike 95% of Ytubers. He's old-school (Apple II era) 🍎 NO BS, Honest about the pros AND CONS. *His Nvidia Shield video on AMZ was by far the best and gave me info I havent seen anywhere! I watched 20+ videos before I see any details like he delivers. I will definitely click/buy thru his links to support him. 😎👍
Thanks Lon. From looking around at some other reviews, it seems like there might be a few minor issues with the box. Would be interested to see you cover Walmart's new 8 and 10 inch tablets too
Thanks for the demo and info Lon, have a great day
2:18 is the device showing up in Google Home? If so can you open it in Home, hit the settings cog (⚙️) then hit "Audio"? My Google Home devices have a setting for default music player output.
Yes tried that but it doesn’t have the option.
I just bought the same box yesterday and also got the non back lit remote
Not sure why companies are still putting 10/100 Ethernet on things. Is it that much cheaper? Otherwise, I say it's about time someone released a sub $100 Google TV device with ethernet and USB ports. Did you happen to test a USB camera and Google Meet?
On a side note, I'm still wishing they would release these Assistant speakers with a headphone jack so it could replace the retired Chromecast Audio.
I'm glad you brought up the difference in remote. From what I was able to research before watching your video is there are 3 remotes and I located the model numbers to help
What are the model numbers
@@lionintu Onn 4K Pro boxes that include the premium remote appear to have manufacturing dates of 2410A, 2411A, and 2412A. Boxes that have dates of 2405A through 2408A include the standard remote. I have not yet seen anyone post about boxes labeled as 2409A.
Just received 2409A with the updated remote
Thanks for the well-done review. It's disappointing that there isn't a setting to send all Google Assistant audio to the internal speaker. OI thought this might truly be a 2 in 1 device, but the device is not a good option as a stand alone Google Assistant as I frequently get no audio when the TV is off. Cheers.
It looks good, but they say that the Dolby Vision on Netflix is always on. You have to manually turn it off, it that true? It should automatically knows when to turn it off.
It' s true, currently bugged.
So what 50$ solves that problem easy..people this days are so lazy to even do something manual now lol
@@kb-is1jn
I mean that is true to a point.

@@hectormanuel8360 Is it still encrypted?
There's definitely a market for people for the $15 one. Like my mom and my sister could give a s*** about 4K. And they've been able to get ridiculous deals on 1080p TVs as a result
@@michael_c2 I feel it's too slow, and buffers too much.
@@hectormanuel8360 The Antenna Man calls it as a work still in progress.
How well can you control playback and video selection with voice commands?
Outstanding review! Having the Ethernet port, extra internal storage and the usb 3.0 port is the game changer for me. Wish it had gigabit port bit this will def stream content well and best of all its an all in one unit for what we need. Will install RetroArch so my kids can play all the older games with an xbox bluetooth controller. For 50$ this is a no brainer!
Is there any Shield alternative with 1Gbps Ethernet port?
None that I've found yet which is disappointing. Love my Shield but it is due for an update.
The fire TV cube.
@@john26262 firetv has 100mbps port.
@@john26262
Th Firetv Cube 3 doesn't have a Gigabit Ethernet port. The network port is 10/100. It has a USB 2.0 port you can use for an Gigabit Ethernet adapter but USB 2.0 speeds are less than half the speed of Gigabit Ethernet. Amazon went the cheap route with the ports of their Flagship model.
@@john26262
The FireTv Cube 3 does not have a Gigabit Ethernet port. The network port is 10/100. You can use a USB to Gigabit Ethernet adapter but the port is only USB 2.0. So the speeds will be less than half of what you could theoretically get from a full speed Gigabit Ethernet port.
Thanks Lon, great video. I think I will wait until Google comes out with their next streaming player...
Will they??? I doubt as present time all TV's are integrated with Google tv interface, I too did wait longer for a perfect Google tv box like all Pro features like Roku ultra with a battery remote and headphone jack rechargeable battery. Google TV box should be with Ethernet, latest Wi-Fi 6E, USB c and USB 3.0 with Bluetooth 5 option.
I would note that the remote you received is the one shown as being included in the listing on the web site.
Where will you use the box [or not?]
I didn't get the backlit remote either
Does the unit support hdmi 2.1? I primarily use my Android box to stream from moonlight. Would be great if i can stream games at 120hz
10/100 nic card yes...but you can get gigabit ethernet to usb 3 adapter and i have seen others report that works on this box, confirmed with download speed test. Maybe a good followup test / video on this box Lon?
is this model available in Canada. The website says , only in US and Porto Rico. whats the difference.
Can you test if you can navigate the menus and apos with your voice only and hands free?
Thanks for the review Lon. Do you know if this box supports USB audio? In other words can I connect a USB DAC to the USB port and then connect the DAC to an amp rather than using HDMI for audio?
If it's supported on Android it'll likely work. I can take a look in a followup.
@@LonSeidman It does work on my Nvidia Shield and that's why I was wondering if I'd work on this one.
Looks great, but i abandoned my shield and firetv max for apple tv. I just love the no ads and simple interface plus it works amazing with airpods. Infuse works great over kodi.
You didn’t just abandon it, but you failed it and now that product is not in your life anymore.
couldn't you just change the launcher on the shield TV?
@@JeskidoYT WRONG. YOUS may not. I hope that helps.
I dumped my Shield TVs too. Have an Apple TV in the living room and a Raspberry Pi 5 for the minor watching I do in the bedroom. Won't have any streaming box or streaming service full of ads. Sick of the same insurance ads over and over.

What is the power brick voltage and current/wattage? Thanks for your review!
How well does the tablo app perform? On my firestick 4k max 1st gen it takes forever for the tablo app to load and navigate around. Playback, fast fwd and rewind are fine but opening videos and deleting videos suck.
I have seen people get a hub for the higher speed Ethernet hookup for 4k speeds
Shouldn't have to do that. They should have included a Gigabit Ethernet port which has been the standard for over a decade.
Might as well use WiFi, as long as your network supports Wi-Fi 6 & your coverage is good those speeds will easily exceed what you get on that ancient Ethernet port.
Got mine LON, a few months ago😊
I wish you would of covered the settings on this and what you can control, like if you can change it to only stream in HD to save on data.
That's on an app-by-app basis.
@@LonSeidman What?I am talking about the setting on the device itself I have not found anything like that in the app settings.Hulu will force 4k if available unless I set my firestick to show 1080 in the display settings of the firestick.
Yes you can click the gear icon on the remote and force it to a 1080p resolution overall. Similar to other Google / Android TV devices.
@@LonSeidman cool thanks
Does it support HDR10+? Thinking about using this with my BenQ HT4550i which does not support Dolby Vision, but does support HDR10+.
How much memories does it come with
Very nice review. Covered pros and cons for me to decide. Thanks.
Thanks for the great review. I'm hoping to get one soon.
Greetings! I need help. I have several devices, Fire TV Stick, Google Chromecast, Tivo, and Onn TV box 4K among others. The thing is that the last one I mentioned allows me to install Downloader, but when I enter a URL I receive the message unknown error has occurred. check your url and connection and another message there was a problem parsing the package. I have already activated allow unknown sources and everything required to use Downloader. I can't even install Google Search. Thank you very much.
What we really need is a new Shield.
Nobody wants to spend 400$ when we can do the same on a device of 50$
@kb-is1jn
I would spend $250 for an updated Shield TV Pro. All these cheap boxes are fine for secondary TVs but for my main TV I want a high end media device.
@@Mr01dschool Unless you're gaming/emulating, it would be a complete waste of money...
does it have mouse toggle? Does it work ONLY in the USA?
The 3 Walmarts within close enough driving distance of me STILL doesn't have these in stock. Electronic department said they haven't even heard of them yet... Guess I'll stick to my 2023 box...
Can the handheld remote be programmed to control the volume on an A/V receiver? Do you have any reviews on Roku Express 4K+?
It is not available in Canada yet ,Or?
The main reason that I purchased this was because of the lag on my Chromecast 4K with Google TV. I set this new Onn 4K Pro up, but I've been out of town so haven't had a chance to test it. Is lag an issue on this device?
Yes; this is a huge problem with the cheaper $20 Onn box also. They get extremely laggy. I’m not too optimistic this “Pro” box will fare any better in the longer term.
@@curtispavlovec you are confirming that the new $50 Pro device has the lag issue as well?
@@fryeguy115 No. I’m saying that I suspect the new Pro device will exhibit the same lag issues after a time as the other products - especially the cheaper $20 Onn box. It was pretty snappy when new too, but it doesn’t last long. Even the CCwGTV has suffered the same fate, albeit the hardware is nearing 4 years old there.
@@curtispavlovec oh okay I gotcha. Fingers crossed that it isn't true! Maybe this is the one lol. Maybe that extra gig of RAM was the turning point. Plus some software optimizations.
It feels less laggy - are you referring to menu navigation or gaming?
Does it work in Canada, T here are posts that it only works in the USA. Can someone clarify this. Thanks.
I can't get the "onn. Google TV 4K Pro Streaming Device (New, 2024)" to recognize four of my USB external drives, telling me they're corrupt.
The new google streamer replacing chromcast gets a boost from more memory but does have other problems.
I added a 2 terabyte external SSD to mine with all my series and movies and it works great.
Still no Screen Calibration unfortunately when corners get cut out on third party apps like Firestick has
Can we add the Wyze app on the device
Im searching for a TV Box and currently torn between this vs. Mi Box S Gen 2. What should i get?
What happens if you search something or launch an app using the Google Assistant when the TV is off.
Unlikely it'll do well at that - I don't think the hardware will support transcoding.
@@LonSeidman ok, thanks.
I wouldn't try running a media server on this device.
May I connect a usb c dac dongle to output the audio?
Does it bring a web browser where you can search things on a search bar?

You might try USB speakers for music
I'm facing an audio suttering issue on youtube on this device when it wakes up from the screensaver. Rebooting the decive fixes the issue. I hope they fix it with an update.
Extremely through and useful review Lon.
Thanks for reviewing!
I don't see an input button on the remote. Does it have CEC so that it can turn on the tv and change inputs?
The Onn Pro Box runs good but, the video output quality is not as bright as other boxes. I have a Verizon Andoid Tv Box, The first Onn TV box, A NVidia Shield TV Pro 2017 and 2019 Box.. The verizon Box, The first Onn and second Box shows Brighter while the other boxes show the video quality slightly darker. You have to raise the brightness.. The Nvidia shield Tv Pro is not Vivid like the Verizon & The first and second onn boxes.
How wells does the Verizon box work? Does it run Android TV or Google TV? Do they lock down the OS? Do you know the Specs?
Which internet browser does it come with or which ones can you install?
I have 300 internet speed from my provider and I only can get around 70 down on both wifi and Ethernet......but my Nvidia is getting 300 on both wifi and Ethernet.....wonder if am missing anything in settings
does this have to be connected by cable to cable tv or internet
Can you plug your usb straight into this box because when I do mines keeps saying its not connected?
Set up info was skipped. Mine did not work. It still showed no signal, even though connections were correct and download speeds of 600 mpbs.
Does this Walmart Streaming device, allow for a VPN to be loaded on it? One such as ExpressVPN, NordVPN, etc? Any info is much appreciated.
Yes any VPN that works on Android TV will work on it.
Can you use the onn pro streaming device independently ?
now why release a Pro version with no specs upgrade, just a different form factor? So bizarre Walmart. Any alternatives to support Plex playback?
It does have spec upgrades the processor is a little better I'd get it if I new I was getting the backlit remote
Stremio and Emby work great
Hi umm so the reason why you’re not getting the other remote is because because onn actually deleted that feature so that’s why you’re not getting it if that makes sense
