Roy has a quirky sense of humor... he's always joking around as watch more video's you will see.. And not many people play more than one harmonica at a time. That style of playing is really famously done by lot's of musicians in the 40's and 50's according to my dad..lol He's not an authority or anything... he just grew up watching Westerns. Roy was from my hometown of Meherrin, Virginia. He used to come back "home" a lot. His family still live in the area, and one of his nephews married a woman from my church. Roy used to visit our church to watch our annual Christmas play. I can say with full honesty that Roy was one of the most humble and sincere people to ever walk the earth. All of his relatives have some amount of natural musical ability, and the same easy-going disposition. He was so proficient on stringed instruments that he could continue playing even when a string broke. It's something of a joke in the country and bluegrass community that you can't play a proper solo in Virginia without breaking a string. Roy was one responsible for starting that joke. Great review, and I hope you get the chance to check out more of this humble superstar who was right under my nose most of my life.

The Orange Blossom Special was a rail line that ran from New York to Miami from the 1920s to the 50s- I think it was considered to be one the most opulent forms of travel before airlines were really a thing, particularly in the winter season when all the entertainers, gangsters and Wall Street types would head south for the winter. Sounds like a more boutique version of toady's "Silver Meteor" Amtrak service. I had the pleasure of riding that a couple of times end to end back in the 90's with a berth and it was a really great trip: excellent food, full bar, movies and an excellent price. I recommend it if it hasn't changed. A "luxury" version of that seems maybe a little redundant, but it could certainly be a real stylish way to travel. Airlines pretty much destroyed that system of travel after WWII; people are generally more focused on the destination than the journey these days: why take a two day train trip - albeit "luxury" - when you can just take a flight and be at your destination in a couple of hours? BTW Jamel, since you recently visited the world of Grateful-ness; you have to be a little more careful how you use the word "tripping"...it could be misinterpreted! PEACE my friend!

Roy Clark was one of the best guitarists who ever lived (IMO). He and Buck Owens were the big stars of Hee Haw. And Clark's version of "Yesterday When I Was Young" is one you HAVE to check out if you haven't already.
Regarding the applause you commented on: TV shows in this era used a lot of "enhancements" -- in the old days they were called "canned laughter" or I think "canned applause" -- but these days it's generally known as "sweetening"... which in both cases is adding pre-recorded applause and/or laughter to a show that's already been recorded, with the intent of making it sound more appealing to the listener. Back in the day, the canned laughter was limited to a very small number of recordings of laughter, which is why on certain old sitcoms you can hear the exact same sound of laughter if you listen for it (and once you notice it, that can become almost impossible *not* to notice, lol). Nowadays, though, there's _way_ more variety in the thousands and thousands of sampled sound effects that sound designers and mixers can choose from when sweetening a show -- and they are also a lot more subtle with it these days, because viewers have gotten more aware of how obviously it was used in the past. (I worked with a mixer at a cable television network for a number of years, so this comes from personal knowledge -- at least as far as how it was done for the shows we produced.)

I miss those days back in the middle seventies . Watching the JOHNNY Cash show Hee Haw and Sonny and Cher show. Those were the days of the greatest music ever. I graduated from high school 1976🏫 , I grew up with in greatest music in history. Country Rock and Roll 🎸 Soul and even Disco 💃 . I loved them all.

It was a lesson book that came with stickers that you put on the fingerboard where the book instructed to teach you how to play the guitar. Besides him being a fantastic guitar player he wanted to pass on his knowledge to the rest of us so we can make music. May they both rest in peace.

If you want another train song, GUY Clark has a song called “Desperados Waiting in a Train”, a song he wrote about the relationship between he and his grandmothers boyfriend, from Guy being a young child, until the death of his grandmothers boyfriend. Guy was a well known songwriter in Nashville, and my dad went to high school with him.
You'll not find a better songwriter than Guy Clark. "Desperados Waiting on a Train," "L.A. Freeway," "Home Grown Tomatoes," "Randall Knife," and on and on. I have written dozens and dozens of songs to this point in life, and if you put them all together, they still wouldn't add up to the greatness and craftsmanship of even half of a Guy Clark song.
Two you've got to see: "12th Street Rag" (look for the one in black & white), and "Caravan," the one from "Hee Haw." My two favorite performances from this great, great guitarist.

Roy was one of those rare players who crossed every genre line with just how unbelievably talented he was. Even the hardest metal guitarists respect him. You should hear him play Flamenco guitar, he's unreal. Got to meet him a few times through the years, and though I've heard when performing, he could be pretty strict with the crew and band, he was always nice and friendly to me.
Roy Clark done a concert in our High School in Lincoln County Tennessee to build a football stadium for our new high school. I should say at the time our only high school. We now have 2. He is amazing. Such a likeable man and huge musician

His song is beautiful.I heard someone play it the other day and it was from when he was much older, Bless him. You need to hear it when he was in his prime. Roy Clark was a regular on a ridiculous comedy/variety show named "Hee Haw." My parents watched it every week when I was just a young kid. Johnny Cash made more than one appearance on that show. Roy was amazing on the guitar, one of the best. Johnny was a country music outlaw/icon, his entire career. I love the switching between the harmonicas. That was amazing! Roy Clark done a concert in our High School in Lincoln County Tennessee to build a football stadium for our new high school. I should say at the time our only high school. We now have 2. He is amazing. Such a likeable man and huge musician

Jamel, as was already said below by others, Roy Clark was amazing! He played anything with strings--fiddle, guitar, banjo--and he was a master of all of them.
You ought to check him out on an old comedy/variety/country show called Hee Haw, especially when he's playing with a 12 year old boy named Jimmy.

Orange Blossom Special is a song and the name of the train. But that song is old old, Im talking about 20 years before johnny cash even started in music. It was one of Cash's most favorite songs from his childhood and he always enjoyed playing it live. This version with Roy Clark must be from Johnny Cash's old TV show he once hosted Im sure!!!! Roy Clark also plays the fiddle and sings. His big song was "Yesterday" . Not the Beatles song. His song is beautiful.I heard someone play it the other day and it was from when he was much older, Bless him. You need to hear it when he was in his prime. His beautiful tenor voice and the emotion and lyrics are awesome. There is also a clip where Roy Clark and Glen Campbell are playing guitars together. They are pretty evenly matched and it was a wonder to behold. You can probably just type their name in together and find the clip. You will thoroughly enjoy it.

Roy Clark was a regular on a ridiculous comedy/variety show named "Hee Haw." My parents watched it every week when I was just a young kid. Johnny Cash made more than one appearance on that show. Roy was amazing on the guitar, one of the best. Johnny was a country music outlaw/icon, his entire career. I love the switching between the harmonicas. That was amazing!

Remember watching The Harmonicats on TV shows. Man that showed Johnny to switch harmonicas was Country hall of Famer Charlie Mccoy. He was also the music director for Hee Haw - Chalie McCoy Orange Blossom Special recorded at the reunion show of the Cast.

Today there is the Santa Fe's El Capitan, and the Pacific Coast Surfliner, The Broadway Limited, and The Coast Starlight among others. Then of course there are the narrow gauge trains like The Skunk Train outside of Fort Bragg CA.
