    That was so clever.well done for putting all those ideas together. I really enjoyed that bit of fun. Although it was a bit sad at the end about the difficulty of using Irish with those in authority. People of Éire please use the Irish you have and help make it the common language once again!

      Thanks! Couldn't resist getting the dig in at the end :-P

    I love this!!! Definitely fun! (And I echo those who have already commented on the hope the use of Irish becomes more and more common!)

    As a harry potter fan, this is very interesting. As a student of the Irish language, i am very jealous. I've been trying to teach myself for little over a year now off the internet (Irish language study materials aren't really readily available here in the states)... but if ur wondering how far i've come, i'm pretty sure i could read an Irish language newspaper. I dont really have anyone to practice with so keep making videos!👍

      GRMA! Where in the world are you? B'fhéidir go bhfuil craobh de Chonradh na Gaeilge ann, nó ciorcal comhrá nó mar sin?

      I'm by miami 🌞🏝🏖 i checked their website but conradh na gaeilge doesn't seem to have any branches outside of Ireland 🤷‍♂️

    • @miseciara
      @miseciara  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rjkonc3394 They do! There are branches in many cities in the UK, as well as Berlin, LA, and I'd imagine other places too. I met a man who spoke Irish (and Spanish) when I was in Miami! I met him through the Facebook Group Gaeilge Amháin. 🔎

    Ciara, while I love all of your videos, this one is now my new favorite. I'll probably watch
    it many times more. My friends are also getting used to me using "What the focal?" or “Día duít.” as a greeting.

      Go hiontach! :-) I hope they don't think you're swearing when you say "what the focal"! :-P

    I've been lucky as far as posting a letter goes. I'm a Yank, but have relations from Dunguin as well as other parts of Ireland. I always address letters in Irish, including letters to Belfast and Derry, with no problems since the 1970s.

    Thank you so much for this video :-D I just loved the comparison. Makes learning Irish even more interesting in a way :-D I hope I can visit some part of the Gaeltacht some day.

  • @MarcelGomesPan

    When i lived in Ireland i always wrote the address and sender in both English AND Irish.....on ”principle” ........or just for the fun of it perhaps.
    ( I wonder what the Swedish Postman thought?).

    Absolutely fascinating your last point. In Wales, we can write to the government and address letters in Welsh and they'll be absolutely fine with it. It'd be unthinkable to have any kind of public service that can't be used in Welsh.

    go raibh maith agat , that was a fun comparison :) Last time I was in the Gaeltacht area, I did not speak any Irish, cannot wait to go back and see if A1 Irish will open secret doors

    Also would you have any advice for someone in America looking to learn Irish?

    • @miseciara

      GRMA! You could see if there is an Irish centre near you that does classes, I know they have them in many cities. Or maybe a university.... I was teaching in Villanova last year and had some students over a certain age who were making use of a program that allowed senior citizens to take free classes :) Failing that, Osgur Ó Ciardha has made a great list of things you can do yourself to learn on Twitter. twitter.com/i/moments/973263871229267968

    • @GrantJBratcher
      @GrantJBratcher 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ciara Ní É thank you! I think I might have a chance finding an Irish center her. But my best bet is probably a program through a university. I am currently a law student at LSU, which is a relatively large school, and there are a good bit of Irish diaspora here, so I’ll look around. I will definitely look into the list on Twitter regardless.
      Thanks again. This has helped me out a lot.

Now a lot my teachers and peole couldn't pronounce it or it though was a different spelling or for girls name Aileen , so much so a teacher put sitting beside girl called Aileen, and for years my mobile phone provided sent letters to Mrs instead or Mr.
