A few years ago I would have given my details to a police officer. Now due to the fine work of people like Reggie more and more people are aware of their rights.
Some forces if not all have a policy where they have to state you do not have to when they ask for your details but don’t suspect you of a crime. But I have yet to see this in action
Tbf I have seen a couple of officers say it preemptively but to auditors - doubt they do to normal civilians

Also establishes no crime has been commited and if they try to arrest after it's illegal as you have established it is a consentual chit chat which you are free to answer or not and walk away any time from. Anything after if they did arrest you said should be I dont answer questions without a lawyer or duty solicitor and if you really want to push it like pinaci did only answer medical questions and refuse all biometrics they want like fingerprints etc.
