About to run this campaign today :). Though I have created my own ttrpg based on divinity original sin. So mainly using the story beats and monsters from this book while altering everything to fit my game.mechanics. super stoked
Even if I'm not running it according to book, hearing someone talk about it, really makes it great to visualize. Also have you done any kind of overview for The Lazy DM Guide, I think it's a useful resource that could really help some struggling dms, its only 100 pages long about.
I'd love to get some feedback, but here is my plan as that we start chapter 2 tonight. ( 1st time DM by the way ). My party is gonna meet the cassalanters. As that renear neverember is noble, he would know them, and they would be interested in the adventurers that saved their fellow noble ( who also is linked to the horde of gold via the embezzlement and such ). When the party meets them, the nice noble couple may be interested in investing the business.. they are smart and may want to throw off any trails by being kind benevolent sponsors and champions of the people. This would be an early introduction to the villain ( summer time play through ). It also helps get the tavern running sooner since the nobles could easily foot the bill for some if not all the costs
I think a fun thing to do would be to take one or two of the faction missions as an example, and show how you would flesh it out into a more fully realized encounter. Maybe one geared combat and one social. It's something that I could have used when I was first running WDDH lol
Im going to run this in a few days with a group of friends and we all are very new players. We have to have our session zero yet and I wonder if I could tell them about the missing gold for that to be a core motivation for their characters. My question is: the missing gold is known by normal people or is like a secret known by little?
it could definitely be a rumor that people are spreading around, especially coupled with the gang violence! once the factions all come out a bit more, it will become onvious that they are all motivated by chasing after the gold!
Great guide about to run chapter two tomorrow have a good murder mystery I’m throwing in with the Zhent faction also giving them an underground figjht club warehouse thing
Wow Start a business just to maintain living in a city home And the faction politics , very intriguing Your final advice is solid, find that sweet spot for them to get invested enough before moving on to the fireball event How do you suppose we prep the party for this section in session zero without spoiling the actual unique process
I like how chapter 1 is more of a Rollercoaster that gets the players involved and gives them good story hooks for the future and then chapter 2 opens up a lot with tons of things to do. I know some people despise railroading in any form, but when it's used like it is in WDDH to set everything up I think it can actually be a good thing
Sounds rough to play out this chapter, first time party (imho) not rly ready for sandbox type beat. On the other hand seems like good time to integrate some backstory elements. We'll see this saturday.
My whole entire party is neutral, or even chaotic neutral. I have no idea what guild to invite them to besides the zhentarim which seems weird since they just killed zhentarim in a warehouse..

@@DwarvenSupremecy i would recomend that each person gets invited to the respective guild that would make sense to them! More guilds, more opportunities for fun!

i often find people say they hate railroading, then when placed in a sandbox, dont know what to do haha
