When I ran Waterdeep Dragon Heist, the players made it into a tavern, but what happened is due to the number of characters that died during the events in the game, the players actually converted part of the tavern into an orphanage. Also, I'm planning on doing a large campaign using 4 books, and this will be the first book and what will happen is after Curse of Strahd, someone else will own the tavern because everyone assumed the players died when they disappeared.
Great! When I read the book for the first time, this chapter was the one that left me most doubtful about how much time I could spend on it, as it offers a lot of cool sidequests that will need time to be properly resolved! And it's a little confusing, because after Fireball, we don't have many tips on how to continue with the plots of the Tavern, and the other guilds, at the same time that the characters get involved in the main plot of the Grand Heist. Thank you very much for the tips!! Excellent content!
This seems like the kind of campaign section that the character's background would actually be prevalent. A lot of times it seems that the background chosen just gets swept under the rug and only its given proficiencies are relevant..
I feel chapter 2 has the benefit of being something that can sort of run as the background to later chapters of the book, potentially as downtime 'text rp' the party can do between sessions. Maybe not the possible side missions from the factions they can join, but the overall shenanigans of the tavern can be a nice moment to deflate tension from the main story beats. After a hard encounter, they might just need to have a flock of chickens 'make their home' in a certain rival owner's establishment. I'm currently looking at adapting the module to mix with Avernus, and your in depth but brief summaries of each chapter are very helpful for me to find where to establish links.
This one will be after the curse of strahd So I will cross this bridge with my group when we get to it ;D But it is a fascinating concept on handling the city life and opening a business and maintaining while also dealing with cruel competition :D I love the concept of the competition being wererats , that is amazing in a fantasy setting Regarding rolling the D100 for results, maybe add some modifiers for player actions. Like if the group has a bard who attracts patrons in creative ways
My players converted the basement of Trollskull Manor into an Underdark speakeasy, Umber Hulk bouncer included.
that sounds awesome!
So that’d make two in waterdeep : ) there’s one in the book though it lacks an umberhulk door man ! And the serving wenches aren’t actual drow .
One of my players made their backstory as a bartender I’m pretty sure they’d like to make this place a tavern and potentially make part of it an inn
heck yeah!
Your series has been so helpful! Thank you.
thank you for watching!
Basically this is the spite-store from curb your enthusiasm? Love it!
