    That double-keel delta, though!!

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It's certainly a great kite, Richard, but the expense of making it was clearly too great for production to continue.

      @@JimNicholls I've constructed several oversized keel deltas and I may well try to build something like that. That kite must be a delight to launch and fly.

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, it's very good, Richard. A bigger keel can make a difference to a delta's stability, as I'm sure you've found. A double-keel one would be a good next project, and I hope you have fun with it.

    The Meyer kite, and tails...are superb...I got the Mayan double box conyne finally.,and becuz of the weak Canadian dollar..paid way too much to get it..but,it's so beautiful..I'm going to make some tails to match..
    Great flying session Jim... thanks!

      Nice to know you got that kite, and with custom tails I'm sure it will look even better. As you will be aware, I have two of them, and they are great items.

      It would have to be a second-hand one, of course, and I don't think it would be easy to find.

    You had to do a bit of a deep dive to get to those older pieces, Jim, What I enjoy about them when you or I put something like those up are the memories they elicit. Appreciated.

    I too have one of those large Premier large eagles. Can I get it to fly ? Nope. Was converted from a vectored thrust one so bridles were missing. Have copied the bridle best as I can see from videos like yours but.............😢
    I have the Ray (after seeing yours) plus got a 55m long snake recently too. I think the 'sea creatures' ( sea snake maybe) move a lot but stay aloft. Good when on ones own but not at festival sites !!!
    The Octopii are fun too !
    Skull is amazing.
    Fair winds Jim

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That eagle has a few design flaws, Chris, and I've never been entirely happy with it. The fabric has worn through over the beak because of the wire that holds it up (no reinforcing). The stand-offs which keep the wing separated from the spars keep coming out, although I have made some improvement. And it only flies well in absolutely perfect conditions, so is of limited use. I hope you can get some use from yours.

      Glad you liked it, Craig. My two sons who live here very rarely fly with me. My eldest son, who lives in England, will be here for a visit shortly, and I'll try (weather and other factors permitting) to get all of them to the beach and flying kites. It probably won't happen, but would be good.

    Hi Jim. Just picked up 3 x the smilin' Diablos in a 'job lot' purchase. Mine are exactly the same pattern/style but made by EOLO-GAYLA and marked Red Devil Foil 320cm x 430cm. Same size as yours ? My spending on new/pre-owned kites it seems 'mimics' your existing kites !!!!
    😂😂😂

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Chris. Yours are considerably larger than mine, which is about 140cm across at the widest point and 300cm top of head to bottom of the legs/tail. It cost US$99 from Gomberg years ago. Assuming you paid a "sensible" price, you seem to have picked up the bargain of the year! Where do you manage to find these things? I've never seen that size on offer anywhere, new or used, since Gomberg closed down, but it appears to be the full-size one, quoted as 10 feet across, which Gomberg sold for US$1100. And you have three of them? Are they new or used? Either way, I am totally jealous!!!

    • @TheKRU251
      @TheKRU251 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @JimNicholls typo. 140cm. So basically same as yours. Just been adding head attachment lines to mine alà yours for line laundry use.
      I bought 70 plus kites in varying degrees of use from perfect to total rebuilds !!!!!!
      PS. Still can't find your YA YA Duck line leg join video. But must of seen 30 others of yours today. Easily distracted hee hee

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm not quite so jealous now, but three Diablos are still a lot better than one. I look forward to seeing you upload a video of them all on one line. I mentioned the modification to the Ya Ya in this video: th-cam.com/video/aefqsbwXizo/w-d-xo.html but I gave no details and it's hard to see. It was just a line between the two feet that gave the legs some freedom to move but not enough to twist themselves around each other, which they did before. You can just see the line around 40 seconds in if you watch on a big screen and slow the video down or pause it at the right moment (and look very carefully)! Sorry I can't help more - if I'd known you were going to buy one I'd have taken more video of how I did it, but you didn't warn me about that. I wish you continued success in your bargain-hunting. Collecting kites can develop into an obsession, but poverty has largely cured me of that these days.

    • @TheKRU251
      @TheKRU251 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @JimNicholls I think your current collection is still spiralling me into poverty............but a great trip anyway ha ha. You have some great kites.
      I love your videos too. Miss them when there is a gap. Especially as your summer ( our winter) is upon on. Mind you, your winters are better than UK summers................ : (

    • @JimNicholls

      I don't fly it often, Mark, as it's too fussy. It seems to be still available, but is quite expensive.
