Went to Vegas once. 1975 on my way from Calgary to Houston. Hotel on the Strip $ 30.00 - shrimp cocktail $ 0.49, drinks in the casinos FREE, no matter if you gambled. Buffet dinner $ 5.00, breakfast $ 2.00 - gambled away my budget of $ 30.00 but had fun doing it.

When I ask what comes with the 'Resort' option I get... 'well the pool.' God damn pools were there for years before they were a 'Resort' feature. Things that are resort like well maybe the Spa for a massage but those are independently run and you pay for that on your own. Valet parking? That is extra and I don't want it. I drive a damn Nissan Sentra. Parking fees. Yeah that's new and I didn't have to park a car in Cancun but I am certain there wasn't a parking fee. Its so nickel and dime cheesy now.

I got priced out of Vegas and now go to Atlantic city. It is much, much cheaper than Vegas. Hotels are cheap in the off season there. Sunday to Thursday are still cheap during summer. Blackjack is 3 to 2 in Atlantic city and minimums for blackjack are $10 during the week and goes up to $15 on the weekends. The good thing about Atlantic city is there are 9 casinos that have to work hard to stay profitable so it is much better for the average person. Food courts at casinos in Atlantic city are much cheaper too.

I tapped out when they started to charge for parking in the hotel. I was already paying resort fees. Charge people that don't stay at the hotel for parking or put a $.50 toll gate and run it all day. I stayed there from 2006-2017. During the financial crisis, we saw prices dip, along with service qualtiy and options. Then they didn't add any quality or value, they just started charging for everything that you could touch or even see and increasing the price as if you had touched it or seen it. There is a problem there, but I can't just pay more because you have a problem. I don't gamble because I don't care and I don't have the time/money to sit still and do nothing. This video makes me really not want to go back. $6 for a fountain drink? That's like a 2300% markup on cost made worse loading it with ice. I began to visit other cities and states.

It really is expensive if you go for a major event. I went last week for the MLK weekend and my room was comped. I don’t really gamble much at MGM, but they have a lot of rooms to give away. I’ve gotten comps at some of the local and less popular places like Four Queens, Mirage and Palms that made very nice meals come out to under $5. I guess it all evens out with the gambling money. But I think you get entertained for what you spend if you set limits for yourself. I’ve spent way more on the hotel rooms alone in Chicago and New York.

With prices increasing and resort management gouging wallets with resort fees (and other fees), I won’t stop visiting Vegas, but I will DEFINITELY be going a lot less often, especially after paying $65 to get into Señor Frog’s for their nightclub night.

Question. We have some similar travel cards. We like visiting Vegas and make a visit about twice a year.
We have received and used promotional stays from MGM and have been offered good deals with Caesars .. we actually don't bet large numbers but do enjoy the visits and dining.
Here's the question. The credit cards offered by MGM and ceasers offer minor status and some stay multiple if the card is used. But I'm wondering how they would impact continuing to recieve discounted stay offers. What's your view on this?
We have recieved basically free rooms and pay some tax and resort fees so a 3 day stay is usually about $140. (NyNY) I would like to continue to encourage these offers. Wondering if a side bennifit from these cards would encourage this type of offer. The card multipliers I can meet or do better with my general travel cards. I'd be willing to use them at the property for some love back from the casinos.
    Love your thoughts on this.

Definitely more expensive as you stated. I go to Vegas at least twice a year but I'm slowing down. I'm burnt with Vegas now. I'm going one more time this year with my new gf so she can see it but other than that, probably not go for a few years. By the way guys, if you see shows, some other forms of entertainment, go clubbing or bars, Vegas will be a lot more expensive. Chris, thanks for your videos. I love watching them and it helped me when I went to Japan 5 years ago!!

I wasn't too happy of the $18 Palazzo charged for the hotel guest. The main advantage of Palazzo garage is the garage elevators are close to the guest room elevators. It is easier for the senior with me. I will consider Wynn next time if the parking is free for the hotel guests.

When I last lived in Vegas (Summerlin) 2011-2016 I rarely went to the Strip. For breakfast I'd usually go to an 'Egg and I' for breakfast. Sometimes eat at either Suncoast or Red Rock casino. I could still get a meal there for a reasonable price and fast food was cheap at the food courts. The buffets around town (off the strip) were still great for the money. I did stay at Planet Hollywood for a couple of nights and did the Spa for kicks. I'm sure I spent around $600 for the Spa alone (clay body rub and heat cocoon followed by a 15 minute massage). I'm glad I did that. Felt like I was floating along the floor in my robe back to the room.
In fairness fast food has gone up everywhere in the country. I spend $14 sometimes at Carl's Jr for a burger and fries. The thing is I just don't feel motivated to go just for 'kicks' anymore. The atmosphere is not the same. There was something about the old Vegas that just appealed to me. Resorts I could care less about. I think the Spa would be great again but that sort of thing is when you are in the mood for all the rest. Hell I bet you don't even get propositioned from hookers like it was where you could politely say 'no not just now honey. You're gorgeous though.'
