It's delightful to see others that truly appreciate music and lyrics get to experience this and other great songs of Joni, for the first time! 🥰 There is SO much variety and diversity to her music and lyrics throughout her decades of writing, performing, producing and recording. And the artwork she created/painted for many of her album covers is amazing too. Yes, her voice changed over the years, but she found new ways to express her lyrics along with those changes, much like the ups and downs of those ponies on the carousel! 🥰
I think when you said her voice was "settling" I thought you were spot on. There is something comforting about it, for sure. This song has always been one of my favorites. The "Miles of Aisles" live album version is even better (hard to imagine). That whole album is SPECTACULAR! Thank you for so carefully selecting what you react to. Makes it special. Another note on this delicious tune is that I feel it as time is becoming the enemy and slipping away quietly and quickly. Well done, sir!

I think Joni is one of the best songwriters of the 20th century.
