    Really enjoy the tubular lock pick videos, as well as the added information about them (drill resistance). Nicely done, as always.

    I just found this lock at my job in a drawer. I had never picked a tubular lock before, but I did just receive my tubular tension wrench from sparrows. I watched this video and was intimated to hear that this was an "advanced specimen" of tubular lock, but I figured, what the heck, it's the only one I have. I'm excited to say that after about 20 minutes of picking (using a key extracter as my pick), I opened it! I'm still a noob lockpicker, so this was a real thrill for me.

      I just got started with the hobby, myself. Congratulations! There's nothing like that *pop* when the last pin gets set.

    I have one I got at Sears in 1979-80. 7/16"-- 1" -- 2.470" dimensions. Cost me $10.99 plus tax. Still using it on an observatory door. Doesn't look quite so good, but works just fine. Been outside since I got it.

    lock picking lawyer! I have one of those unican tubular locks just like that one, I successfully picked it open to the 2nd position and released the shackle! is there a way to remove the core? looking at mine there is a long brass pin where normally a screw would be on removable core (kinda looked like a clothes pin pushed in there) is there a ball bearing holding the core I. and do I need to keep picking to a different position to slide out the core? your feedback would be very helpful! thank you!!

    Do you then have to pick it backwards twice to get it to close back up and be usable from the key again?

    I have a Unican lock that’s almost the same, but the diameter is 2-3/8”. That’s the only difference I can see, don’t know if the guts are the same. I got it from a locksmith to use on a motorcycle brake disc. I think I got it in the 80’s, probably about $15. Actually that was a lot to pay for a padlock back then, but cheaper than a new bike. I just bought the American HT-15 after seeing your video on it.

    What brand tension bar do you use?

  • @lmars5933
    @lmars5933 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    well explained LPL .ARE YOU SAYING THE SPRINGS IN THIS lock is the reason that you can not impression.??what TYPE of spring WOULD thay have used.😎😎😎😎😎

    • @michaelclark3999
      @michaelclark3999 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Larry Marrs it's varying strengths in the spring that make it harder (not impossible to impression)

    • @NoctisMotus
      @NoctisMotus 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Varying the length of the driver pins and springs is generally used to help thwart such an attack. The success of an impressioning attack on a tubular lock relies heavily on uniform spring pressure and consistently sized driver pins.

    That's also a fairly expensive lock.

      Was it? I got this and a larger-bodied version for pretty cheap on ebay. Sadly, the larger bodied lock has a bum spring, so only opens when upright!

    Seems like many older locks are better in many aspects.

      Quality is quality whenever it's made. If we compared this to cheap locks from the same time period, you would be appalled!

      LockPickingLawyer Yeah, it really makes me wonder about the thought process when planning to manufacture locks. Sometimes it's about keeping costs down and other times *who* *knows* *what*.

      LockPickingLawyer The discovery of a plastic interior comes to mind. "How did you defeat it?" "Welp, I left it on the dashboard of my truck in the hot sun." Ha!

    I have a couple small Masters (No3 type cores) and a Master No15, can anyone recommend the next two or three of the lowest priced, most available locks to train on (My tools are few and simple, in the 23 thousandths range)? Im pretty competent with standard pins and while I hear everywhere that the No15 is all standard pins, it surely does behave like theres a spool or two (from what I theoretically understand about spools).
    Anyway, Id really appreciate some recommendations.
    Thanks.
