    I love the (borderline) hypocrisy of these people. Like they believe women and men should be allowed to show skin and be proud of their bodies. But when someone is mildly considered attractive or "sexualized" they demean or "fix" them. Pretty sure skinny and sexually appealing people still have feelings sis.

      Thank you for your input dude. I handy really stoped to think about that. It is a bit odd that they have that message yet procede to try and talk about how wrong it is when someone else does it. Thank you for watching my video and engaging with it!

      I actually understand what you mean. I was tempted to bring that up but I decided not to since it doesn’t really fall into place with the theme of the video. Nonetheless I was a bit caught off guard.

      And they piled loads of clothes onto her design, which is actually counterproductive as Momo’s Quirk relies on her skin being exposed so that her powers work properly. This was all explained in the series. It makes about as much sense as changing Mina’s skin colour.

      I also believe changing any characters race is stupid. But changing some from black to white has much different significance than changing someone from white to black due to the history of racism and oppression POC have experienced. White people have not experienced that racism and oppression. We can’t remove these things from context and use it to back up the points you are as they are not contextually comparable

    The big problem with the person who changed momo for me is not only the ethnicity change (and I’m black myself) but they must not have watched the anime because her quirk (or superpower) relies on how much skin is exposed.

    • @ChaoticToons
      @ChaoticToons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      Exactly. She needs to expose skin so she’s able to create larger items. It could just be the case of someone doing that just to get some clout.

    • @甘い子猫
      @甘い子猫 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Crunchy I still find it wrong to “fix” a character by changing their skin color, aswell as just changing skin color or weight on a character bad. It takes away its characteristic and I’d hate if someone took my character made them black and skinny opinases to white and chubby.

    • @crunchyng969
      @crunchyng969 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Angelic Syndrome yeah it’s just wierd to change someone’s character design because “it’s not right to them” it’s not your character to change, it’s the creators choice

    • @Cheetahgirl_Studios
      @Cheetahgirl_Studios 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah. Her Quirk specifically relies on her skin being exposed so that she can create objects with as little hindrances as possible. It’s like she said, her Quirk uses the body fat to create the materials. So why would you cover her up when she needs her skin to be exposed in order for her Quirk to function properly? That’s like changing Mina’s skin colour.

    • @ittosimp69420
      @ittosimp69420 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, she im fact needs access to areas with allot of body fat. However, her costume didn't needs to be designed in this way. I think the biggest problem with the way people usual redesign Momo's costume is that they don't care about her personality at all. From what I've seen most od the redesigns are just COVER OF THOSE NASTY BOOBIES. I like Momo's design because it makes her look mature and adult, not because I like it when girls have their titts all out. I have seen alot od Momo redesigns and most od the are just kinda... plain. Like most of them look like simple tracksuits that give her sporty energy that doesn't match her character.The most comnon things I've seen are 1) having her costume be made out od the same things as her hair like Lemilion's is (now corect me if I'm wrong but from where did we even get the prof that the her crearions can't go throw her hair, or that it's just that simple to create clothes out of somenodys hair that they can just do that for ever, studen't even tho there's a simpler solution) and 2) zippers (whitch I always found silly sence it takes time to unzipp the costume so she can use creation and just imagine her zipper being stuck at the worst posible situation). It's fine if you don't like the design and want to make it suit your taste more or heck you just felt like it, but labeling the creator as a deviant because od your personal feeling over the fictional character is just an astronomical level of brain damaged (not all of artists do this but a good chunk od them do). I don't see a single reason why people who have this wonderful character full of potential and the best they could do is some generic and plain design that tells us nothing about her feel entitled enough to tell Horikoshi or anyone to exspres their crativity and ideas.

    I seriously don't understand a lot of people's passion for changing characters' skin-tones, especially if they're from Japanese media. If they're from an anime, they're most likely Asian, and therefore, already POC. Despite this, somehow people see right through that and make them dark-skinned and use the excuse 'not all Japanese people are pale', but this character you changed the skin-tone of was clearly a pale Japanese character...

    • @ChaoticToons
      @ChaoticToons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      It doesn’t come down to where you are from for your skin tone. You could be African and be pale. You could be Mexican and be black. And as you said. That’s how the character was originally created

    • @ChaoticToons
      @ChaoticToons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      More often than not the bigger issue is that even when you try and explain something often times people will reject the idea simply because it contradicts what they have thought for a long time. It’s hard to break habits.

    The only time I can get behind “fixing” characters is when the characters are actually offensive, like those really distasteful superheroes marvel made a while back. Like if you’re unapologetically making a stereotype of a character unironically, that shouldn’t be tolerated.

    It's ok to draw a character with different clothes and shit, but completly changing the character and saying "I fixed It" is bs.
    What bugs me is that, those people always say "women should wear what they want", but if they see a *_fictional_* character considered attractive with short clothes they lose their minds.
    And then, sometimes they respond with "but they're 15!". while I can understand that if it's full on nsfw or fetish shit, I'm still on the "short clothing" topic (Also, edit, kids shouldn't really be seen as "sexual" in any clothing. For example, it's not illegal for them to wear beach clothing if they're on the beach. If you think them wearing that is sexy and should be covered up, I personally think your kinda weird). Well, I'm sorry to be the first person to tell you that, but they don't exist. If you really cared about minors being sexualized, there's somenthing called real life, where real kids actually suffer with those problems. You tweeting about human rights of fictional characters isn't helping any of them, just thought you'd like to know that.
    Also, the ones who get mad about human anatomy.
    Again, they don't exist. They're an image, a drawing, not a person.
    "Where are her organs?"
    Well, you should know that she doesn't actually need space for those. And no she doesn't have back pain, she ain't real, she can't feel those.
    Artists don't need to draw their character the way you want to. Grow up. Realism is not the key for good character desing. It can look good, but people don't necessary need to a have a realistic style and realistic characters.
    Of course, there *_is_* a difference between style and straight up bad art from people who refuse to learn, but I think this comment is alredy long enough to explain a few points, and the difference between those is easy to see but not so easy to explain

      This comment is amazing. Is exactly the kind of conversation I was hoping for when I made this video. I agree dude, if people want to change the hairstyle of a character or their clothing go for it I’ve done it before but i still try to stick as close as possible to how they were originally created. Also I hadn’t thought about that point, they are fictional characters so they don’t need to be super anatomically correct. I really appreciate your comment and I hope you have a fantastic day!

    And for these people who are redesigning MHA characters: please stop. It’s just rude. Horikoshi has explained why Momo has such an exposing outfit: her Quirk relies on her skin being exposed so that it can work properly. Otherwise, a range of problems could occur if she was covered up. Doing that makes about as much sense as white/blackwashing Mina Ashido. It makes no sense at all.

    If SJW’s put the time and energy into productive things that they put into being angry and tearing people down, not only would their community be incredibly valuable, but the world itself would probably look pretty differently. Instead of “correcting” people’s art and stories, make your own. If you think there is no good content in the world, instead of getting your emotional support hate squad together to insult others, work together to make something you deem good. My fix for this is to make all (of age) characters sexy! There we go problem solved.
    Also I understand slightly changing skin tone for the sake of contrast but like race swapping is weird to me. White washing characters is a thing that happens offent and it's a problem, I mean have you seen minecraft steve??? He is so white washed in all the merch it upsets me greatly. But anyways in that drawing of nessa it was more of a watered down/pastel pallet so it makes sense for all of her colours to be lighter (her hair wasn't as dark as the og too). Someone that actually dose it well is a artist called destiny moon on tumblr, she has a version of hatsune miku called hatsune Mina (or something I forgot ^^') and it's just like black hatsune miku. Like I've seen someone draw a character (Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner) with tanner skin and say that's correct instead of the white skin he has. The character is only a quarter Mexican and even if he was fully Mexican, Hispanics are a range of colors. It just peeves me off.

    But why be upset about an artist's personal interpretation? Or headcannons? Honestly they're not hurting anyone and not everything has to cater towards your or anyone else's sexual fantasy, especially when it comes to smaller artists redrawing characters. I've learned this over time with art being subjective and up to the individual with how they interoperate it. You may not enjoy the redesigns, but others may do. Also, please credit the art that you're reviewing like a responsible critic.

    • @ChaoticToons
      @ChaoticToons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right, I forgot to credit each drawing and that was my mistake. I don't have an issue with people creating head cannons or creating a new interpretation of an established character. As I mentioned in the video there are AU where the characters are changed in drastic ways such as MonStar and Alternate Diamond Steven. I am completely okay with that. The issue I take with it is when people don't agree with the already established character and take it up to themselves to fix it. Why is it okay to fix a character by changing her from a white skin tone to a darker skin tone? It would be the same as white washing a character just in opposite. That's the issue I have. Thank you for showing me your opinion, I wanted to share mine and I am grateful you took the time to watch my video and engage with it! I hope you have a wonderful day!

    • @renadraws
      @renadraws 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Literally where did he say that he took issue with head cannons and redesigns? What he takes issues with is when people "fix" artwork because it doesn't suit their agenda. I definitely agree that not everything needs to be sexy but in the first example (Valentine from skullgirls) half the appeal of that game is from characters being sexy (which includes a male character too!!!). Fixing and editing artwork that isn't your without the permission of the original artist seems very rude to me, I would feel pretty bad about myself if someone took my artwork and felt the need to do that. Now I don't wanna come off as representation in media is bad because I know a lotta people edit characters too look fatter or a different race because there's a lack of representation and that fucking sucks. But editing official art work and acting all snarky and like you're on top of the world is very disrespectful in my opinion and I think if people do it they should be more respectful and say it's simply just a head cannon/au and not that they "fixed" it.

      ChaoticToons usually the intention of the “fix it” artist is to give what they assume a white character a darker skin tone to make the character a minority character. Mono is already a minority since she is Japanese, but they made her black, so in a way, “erasing” a part of her identity. It is hypocritical that the artist saw a Japanese character, deemed them “too white” and replaced the art with a black character. They say they support the representation of minorities in media, but then through their art get rid of Asian representation. This I what many people are also upset by apart from her outfit

It's just disgusting how people would shame others that has a hobby/ career that includes short skirts, revealing skin, etc. Yeah people can draw flawed characters but you can't "fix" art but only criticize the artist instead.
    Yes, some artist draws a dark skinned character can sometimes make the skin lighter when they don't use reference and it's just slightly different from the character its self. Also for example from my fandom itself some artist draw Craig tanned (slightly darker skin to make the Peruvian joke, well, goes on.) and some draws him like the canon version (light skinned). my opinion is that headcanons are totally chill ESPECIALLY when things like race and body types are fairly ambiguous. take homestuck for example (i know mentioning that in 2020 be pretty wack but STAY WITH ME HERE LOL) all of the kids were made to be racially ambiguous. you cant really tell what their body types are except in certain flash animations and even then, who cares abt their body types. u wanna make a character chubby because youre chubby and it makes you feel rad? do it!!
    race can get a little iffy but i personally have no problem with more racial representation in headcanons. as long as ur not changing poc to be white then whatever
    and tbh? i dont mind oversexualized girls in media too much? although yes i wish we were. Less Oversexualized but there are some things like u said, where they are clearly meant to be yknow. Secksey! but say for example in like, normal games where u can choose between like a guy and a girl for ur avatar, the girl is often very sexualized even though she is in an environment where that would NOT make sense. that makes me a littol :/
    NOW. STEALING AND TRACING someones art? straight up terrible. i do not condone that. that has never been the right thing to do and never will be. that is the ONLY problem i have with what some of these ppl do (and ofc, the whole 'whitewashing' stuff when it was rlly just lighting)
    like at 6:10?? nah. dont like that. there's even a signature there which just?? makes me feel iffy
    but in the end sometimes its not 'fixing' the characters. sometimes u just wanna see a little more ACTUAL normalcy in the things we consume, to make u feel a little less crappy. i think that we as a Society slowly getting better at that, but till we get representation we deserve, i think its okay to dump ur headcanons and stuff on characters u love.

      Ooooo okay I see what you mean. See if you want to make your own rendition of a character in your own style. That’s fine, you can change as much as you’d like and that’s fine, but the is sue is that they want to claim the character they drew is the fixed one that’s the issue.

      But, basically what I'm saying is, is that some of the fans used the term wrong. Because honestly just saying fixing by just completely changing the design and anatomy is just heart breaking. But i cant blame them, as an artist myself, I just want to visualize what the character I see that would look better, in my head so I end up drawing it in the way I imagined. Of course, knowing i might hurt someone's depiction of the character they love, I usually just draw it and get on with my day.

      A lot of people don’t expect the male voice. I guess my avatar throws them off xD. That’s exactly my point. There’s the norm and also the author can choose what the characters look like. They’re his characters

    hi! wanted to say how hypocritical it was of you to say that the lightening of nessa was okay when the color palette the artist used did include some dark colors- thus showing the lightening was intentional- and then dogging on those who made the skin tones darker. while most of the characters you talked about were japanese, there are still some tan japanese people and it is okay to draw characters like that if it makes you feel more connected or like you can see yourself in the character. characters in anime, manga, video games often get artists making their own iterations of the characters, and thats okay! while i dont agree with tracing or taking someone’s artwork and changing the colors and saying it is “fixing it”, the concept of changing the characters to a darker skin tone is okay. the reason that people dont like it the other way is because of the lack of good representation of darker toned characters in anime or manga, so taking away what little rep they had hurt them. nessa in particular causing a big uproar as racists around the world drew her white or made her into a racist caricature.

      Hi, I want to thank you for commenting on this video. I re watched the video to see the Nessa part, however I fail to see where there would be dark colors. There are darker shades of the colors present on the image and that is what I believe you are talking about. However you need to see it from a lighting point of view. If you were to shine a bright light onto someone the colors show would become much lighter and makes the shaded parts much darker, however if this isn't what you're talking about I would love to hear more on it and maybe I am wrong. As for there being tanned Japanese people, yes you are absolutely right like any race and any nationality in this earth there will be different skin tones. The issue I partake with how they are "fixing" the characters is that it isn't the way the character was portrayed by the original artists. As I've mentioned before I am okay with people changing character and sometimes I even find it interesting, the issue again is when people "Fix" the character simply because they don't agree with it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I am thankful that you showed me yours! I hope you don't take this as me trying to attack your opinion, I simply wanted to share mine. I hope you have a lovely day!

      I also did forget to mention. I strongly disagree with what the artist made with Nessa, the one who purposely changed her to be white. It was something in awful taste to be done and honestly I disapprove of anyone who has done something to her simply to cause an uproar.

      ChaoticToons thank you for the quick reply! but as an artist the nessa drawing isnt about the character being washed out as her shorts has dark colors and her hair is the same color as the reference picture. and i didnt mention this previously, but the ayano drawing seemed purely out of fun, and the body of the character was just drawn by someone with a lack of anatomical knowledge or their style as the proportions were off in multiple places.

    • @ChaoticToons
      @ChaoticToons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for bringing that up to my attention. I do see what you mean with the hair and shorts, it is much darker than the rest of the drawing. I still do believe that the artist chose to go for lighter colors and simply couldn’t find the right colors for the hair and shorts, however I do thank you for bringing that up to my attention. As for the Ayano drawing I do agree with you, it does seem like it might be lack of knowledge or simply out of fun. The reason I chose include it in the video is because while browsing through tumblr it was posted by the artist as “fixing” the character. Was it not for that caption I would not have included it. Thank you for your reply!
