When I first moved to CDO, in the taxi ride from the airport to our AirBnB downtown, I kept asking Jaycel if the driver knew where he was going because I had no idea the airport was that far from the city 😅And my first Holy Week there in the Philippines was a shocker HAHAHA Good thing I had Jaycel to warn me beforehand to get to the grocery and stock up food for us. I'm with you though... I like how they still observe holidays like that and close down, not worshipping at the altar of the almighty dollar

I went whitewater rafting here in CDO just a few days ago. Sunday the 24th. First day of Holy Week. The gym I go to is closed but haven't noticed anything else being closed. Maybe things are changing.

That's Palm Sunday which is probably why. The real HARD closures will start on Holy Thursday, today, Mar 28th - Sat, Mar 30th. On Easter Sunday, especially afternoon, things should open back up.

I'm staying in CDO at the moment, just spent a week in Camiguin Island with my girlfriend for my birthday celebration had a great time, everyday was something amazing to see and do and great food

There's a unique river rafting that is only done in the Philippines. It is called Shooting the Rapid in Pagsanjan Falls. Try try that one different style.
If you ever make it to Chang Mai, need to check out the rafting there.

It's strange how Holy Week works in different countries. My wife could have told me what you are saying since she is from Iligan City, Lanoe del Norte, RP. I even almost caused a scandal when I first met her. I took her relatives out for dinner on Holy Saturday and we went to Sunburst Fried Chicken in Cebu City. They were very appreciative but later found out because we aren't at Easter yet, they don't normally do that. They understood I didn't know that. In Costa Rica where I will retire, Holy Week is when everyone is at the beach....it's packed. Some stores close down but not totally. Just stay away from the beach unless you like crowds.

You need to prove that you are leaving the country within 30 days. 🌟
You need a ticket saying you are leaving the Philippines before your first visa expires. So they will let you in the country. So if you plan on staying longer, a throw-away ticket is the best route. It's cheap and easy .
And do not forget to do your E Travel online documentation before you arrive. This is an absolute must and you will be required to show proof when you arrive in the Philippines
They gave you a 1/2 half full margarita? That's one thing I don't like about the Phils, with many items, fill it up to the top please..

had to laugh about your comment about everyone knowing about the airport.. spent a week there.. came in on the ferry from Cebu, left on the bus to Davao :) no clue where the airport is

Pinas are so protective of their men. His safety is of utmost importance to them. This is why they must eat your food before you even get a chance to try it first. 🤣

Lol… They take their Holy Week seriously in Mindanao. My girlfriend is originally from Mindanao and she’s been caught up in the Holy Week shutdown in years past when she’s gone to visit. She’s actually there right now. The old CDO airport (Lumbia, I think that it’s a military base now) was more centrally located. It was literally a 60 second walk from the airplane to the terminal and another 60 second walk from the terminal to the car. I think that it was 5 miles from downtown. The new airport Laguindingan is 30+ miles from CDO.

What I saw in September 2023 the country is in decline it is going backwards not forward. The population is diabetic and has high heart disease. The biggest disease they have is image and status. Filipino males are useless with their passive aggressive behavior, Filipinas condone and enable these useless males. The Philippines cannot self govern. The Americans cut them loose too early. The population as a whole does not have critical thinking skills, don’t have skills of impulse control. What disgusts me is how Filipinos think they are owed a living by the relatives that live in the west or are OFWs.
