“Love is a song” Is one of the first songs I ever heard. It brings me a tear every time I hear it just remembering how beautiful my baby years were and how reminiscing this song is to me even to this day
This is fascinating that the trailer is entirely focused not only on his adult self, but also paints it as primarily a romantic movie. I'm trying to figure out why that is. Could be that romances were easier to market, especially in the midst of a bleak time like World War II; could be they weren't sure how else to market something which is pretty much an animated nature-documentary like Bambi; could be they thought adult deer might draw a bigger audience. I certainly wouldn't have wanted to market this movie back then, not in that atmosphere at least, and it didn't do well at the box office most certainly because of both the unusual nature of the film itself but also lack of access to European markets. That's not to say I don't adore this movie, it's just fascinating seeing how they tried to market it as a primarily romantic film when it most certainly is not, but again, it's understandable given that it's a very unusual film in how much it's like watching a nature documentary.
One of my favorite Disney films as a kid (with Pixar and Marvel excluded), and as such a wonder, I never really cried or was traumatized even when I was very little.😍
Technically, a lot of footage of Bambi and his friends as adults were used in this trailer, with very little footage of them as children being used. So in essence, this trailer promoted both the romance and the adult lives of Bambi and the forest animals.
I remember first watching this when it came out on VHS tape for the first time (I believe it was 1989). At the time, I thought it was made sometime in the early to mid 80's, but was very surprised when I first found out that it was made in the early 1940's. This movie has definitely stood the test of time. Even though it was made in 1942, you can't really tell because the entire film takes place in the forest where there are NO buildings, cars, or any signs of technology whatsoever (plus, the animation STILL holds up very well today). This truly IS what classics are made of!
I first saw it in 1997 and I remember that feeling of thinking it was a newer film. It took me a long time afterwards to discover it being from the 40’s.
+Seventh Sinner Yeah, this movie has its cute moments, but it is also very dark at times (e.g. the film's main antagonist, "Man", killing Bambi's mother offscreen, Man's pitbulls trying to kill Faline, Bambi getting shot in the back, and the forest fire that kills Man offscreen). I still vividly remember how depressed I felt when I first saw the scene where Bambi goes out searching for his mother, but is then found by his father (The Great Prince) who tells him that she can no longer be with him. Even watching it today, it's very sad. Still a classic Disney film, though!
They tell the whole story in the trailer. But I loved 'Bambi' as a child. Wouldn't believe how many times I saw it; then I forgot...the charming story, funny characters and BEAUTIFUL animation.
wow graphics are unbelievable for 1942! i miss old films like these, they used to put so much work and passion into the stories.. its not the same nowadays
The first film that I remember watching was Bambi, I grew up on a farm, I've shot some rabbits and crows, but I'd never shoot a deer, I love seeing them.
Just watched this for the first time. Whether you think this is the best Disney-no...animated films of all time is up to you, but you can't deny it is the most beautiful.
This trailer shows so much of his adult version, but nowadays Disney just uses the fawn version. In the original book, his mother promised him that he’ll be likely to interact with his father when he’s ‘grown up’ and it’s the Old Prince that he interacts with during adulthood. While in the movie they barely make as much use with the Great Prince. With at least Bambi spending more time with his father in Bambi 2 released 64 years later, but that’s while he’s still a child.
I have got to get this movie! This along w/ "Alice In Wonderland," "Lady and the Tramp," "Dumbo," "Peter Pan," "Sleeping Beauty," "Cinderella," and "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" were my favorite Walt Disney classics as a kid! I have started a collection of Disney classics for my 3-year-old... I want him to treasure these films, as well!
When I was younger, I simply couldn't appreciate this film as much as I do now. This is what classics are made of! Although it was made in 1942, you can't really tell. I first saw it in 1989 (I was four at the time) and thought that it was made in the 80s. Lol. Therefore, it is a timeless story for any and every generation! One of the greatest Disney films ever made!
I remembered this movie and also i read the book version at the library months ago it's been and now this timeless animated feature film is in the national film registry of December 2011!
I CANNOT believe this was the very first movie I saw in a movie theater back in 1988...when my mom told me the movie, I was pretty shocked (because of the death of Bambi's mother). I was either 2-3 years old when the movie was reissued theatrically.
I watched this movie when I was a kid, and I still love it! But I never thought that it was mainly about love. I was more into the pretty colors and talking animals. X)
You did too? It sounds so much like they're singing 'goes on' XD I recently searched the lyrics, so thats how i found out, embarassing to think i've been thinking it was 'goes' on for years O_o
Walt Disney, the world's greatest storyteller brings the world's greatest love story to the screen. "Bambi"! The story that proved that love can be loaded with laughs! "Bambi"! The story of a deer who learned that love means many things to many people. To his parents it means courage and sacrifice. To Bambi's mate, Feline, love is but at once a tender and a terrifying thing. To Bambi himself, love comes to meet heroism and fearlessness. Here surging out of the roaring forest is the most powerful gripping and romantic story, ever brought to screen by Walt Disney!
Yep, I think it was Disney's third animated film. Also I believe they say this was Walt's favorite film too. It's a great film to, the storyline is touching, and the way they filmed the scenery and the animals is great, definately shows that they put a lot of research, thought, and work into making it.
Wow, I havn't seen Bambii in a few years (and I really don't remember it that way) but when I was little, when my older brother and sisters were at school I would watch that movie every day. I never thought it was made in the 90s though...
this movie has introduced alot of children to the reality of death but in a good way who can ever forget the legendary scene when the mum dies pure classsic
For those whom want to listen to the song, or have never heard it, and want to know the name, it's called 'love is a song' And i made a mistake it's not 'goes on' but in fact 'flows on' :)
@watarball Bambi wasn't Walt Disney's first feature film. That would be "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1937), which itself was very briefly the highest grossing film of all time, from 1939 to 1941, when it was supplanted by "Gone with the Wind". Bambi was released in 1942, by which time America had entered World War II and a human-less film about deer became a tough sell.
whn i was a kid i love watched Bambi on laserdisc every single day n alwys cried n i keep remember that moment if i misbehave n make my mom mad at me then im not alowed to watch Bambi, i feel very sad -.- i never watch ths movie again when i entered kindergarten till now BUT i still love Bambi n Thumper
I remember as a kid hiding underneath the couch when the scene with Bambi's mom dying came...so sad..:( I miss the days when Disney's movies could actually touch my heart..
The problem with that CGI 3D animation is that it doesn't age well; at least it doesn't age as well as traditional 2D animation. You watch Toy Story, and the CGI, while it was mind-blowing for its time, doesn't look as great now as it did back then because technology has improved and will continue to improve. But when you watch something like Fantasia or My Neighbor Totoro, the animation is still as beautiful and artful today as it was back then. Hand-drawn animation is timeless.
@YogiBear13 , good point, I have the same opinion about Wall-E as well. Personaly it's my favourite animated movie. But as an artist, the hand animation style works better for me, not just the animation itself, but the motion in them, they just made it beautiful.
*nods* i was born when lion king and pocahontas came out (i think those were the last good movies with true heart in them for animation...just me though) but Bambi is such a force, you don't know how much they were pushing the evelope (sp?) to make this movie. If you just look at the plot, you can see why is soo amazing its a film at all. Snow White was the first animated full feature film ever made just to clear that up
@sofasoi It's not as far away as you think, I'm a student of classical animation student and there is a resurgence in the will to make classic animated movies. By those of us who grew up with these movies too, so there are animators who share your sentiments.
In terms of western animated films? I would agree. But classics still exist. Disney may have decided to follow the western 3D trend but studios such as Studio Ghibli's 'Spirited Away', winner of several academy awards, still stay true to the hand animation genre. The studio continue to produce many great animations. Give them a Google, you wont be disappointed.

It's interesting to see how trailers were formatted so differently back then!
You can watch Bambi (1942) Full Movie at *fullmoviesmedia(dot)com/bambi-1942-full-movie* Thanks, Angelo

Maybe it would be interesting to see some super-vintage-Style trailers for later Disney films?
They were formatted quite differently, yes. But I noticed some similarities to the way they were formatted these days, nonetheless.
"The picture of the year."
What an understatement.
The book isn't a love story, it's a story of survival.
It’s a mix of the two from what I’ve read.
This is fascinating that the trailer is entirely focused not only on his adult self, but also paints it as primarily a romantic movie. I'm trying to figure out why that is. I was more scared of the music. Especially the cymbal crashes
Young Bambi: What happened, Mother? Why did we all run?
Bambi's Mother: Man was in the forest.
i do Not Lite you
who narrates this trailer from Bambi (1942)?
This is a really good movie! Yet disturbing, but beautiful!
Interesting how they focused on the romance aspect of Bambi rather than the entire coming of age story
Technically, a lot of footage of Bambi and his friends as adults were used in this trailer, with very little footage of them as children being used.
So in essence, this trailer promoted both the romance and the adult lives of Bambi and the forest animals.
I know right. If the trailer was for the 2020’s it wouldn’t fool me easily
This brings back SO many memories! tnx so much 4 uploading
My favorite Disney film.
Same.

Wow, I didn't know this movie was so old! I love this movie, it's never getting old.
I love this movie so much :D
They tell the whole story in the trailer. But I loved 'Bambi' as a child. Wouldn't believe how many times I saw it; then I forgot...the charming story, funny characters and BEAUTIFUL animation.
Bambi 75th anniversary on Disney Blu-ray made in Atlanta in 2017.
brings back memories. i must have seen this movie a hundred times as a kid.
Wow, this is so amazing. I love bambi!
If you kind of think about it, it was kind of like the Lion King.
You mean the Lion King was kind of like Bambi.
The Lion King was a trillion times better though
@@stevenjones4059 Was it fuck. Bambi is a supreme example of the animator's art. The Lion King was just a vehicle for shit Elton John songs
BAMBI IS BAE MY MOST FAVORITE
I wish they still animated like this, and i wish they still had such dramatic musical scores too
Disneys last good hand drawn movie was Brother Bear. Unpopular opinion
I can't believe this movie is 70 years old!
wow graphics are unbelievable for 1942! i miss old films like these, they used to put so much work and passion into the stories.. its not the same nowadays
"BUMBIE'S MOM... she's... *DEEEAAD!!!!"*

This movie is so awesome.

I always cry with these classical Disney movies such as Bambi, especially when they're parents die...such heartbreak
Of all the animated classics of the Uncle Walt era, I’m more of a Snow White and Cinderella fan
It's a newest TV show about the rabbit: Disney's "The Adventures of Thumper the rabbit" in 2015 on Disney Channel.
this trailer gives me the goosebumps. :O

the woman who voiced Faline has passed away R.I.P and thank you for the memories
This is my favorite from the Golden Age of Disney. Most compelling story and the best animation (though Fantasia comes close on the animation part).
I have to go with Snow White
@Manutdjake07
I am a 22 year old guy and I LOVE this movie! This is my favorite Disney movie of all time!
I have loved this movie since I was 2 years old :)
bambi is cool
I use to cry every single time as child when she died ...so nice nemories
Old Disney.. I'm 13.. I will never forget the old disney classics.. Since I was 1.. Now its all 3-D! Where did the old days go? =\

It's Bambi 75th anniversary in 2017 by Disney.
@sofasoi
Pixar does a terrific job of telling a story…always filled with emotion.
1:24 GREAT PRINCE: 🦌 It is Man. We must go deep into the forest. Hurry!
damn it's hard to believe all of our movies came out sooo long ago! hard to believe when tv just came out in the 30's!
this animation is better than most animations that has come 50-60 years after it...
Glad I loved the movie before seeing that trailer. Had I seen that first, I would never have seen that wonderful feature.
Question. How did they get that floating book effect at the beginning? For 1942,or even today, thats not bad.

my old time fave cartoon as a child...Who didn't love "BAMBI" ..:))
They made this seem like it was Terminator 2 Deer Season
Felix salten also wrote a further two follow-on books Bambi's Children which are just as enchanting as the original.
Well....the one thing I have to say is that the animation on this film is better than cartoons as recent as 15 years ago; its quality amazes me.
OMG! The eyes! The eyes! They're so big and round and adorable! The reason I loved Bambi as a kid.
I love this movie
Now this is what I call classic cartoons. Wish cartoons were still made like this
For those whom want to listen to the song, or have never heard it, and want to know the name, it's called 'love is a song'

Interesting what they choose to focus on in this trailer. SOOO different from modern trailers... The romance is only the last half of the film....
The saddest part? 16 million American troops were deployed the same year and 400,000 could never see this timeless classic
Wow, the way they advertised Bambi when it first came out and how they advertise it now is COMPLETELY different.
Wow ! I love this cartoon although I haven't watched in my childhood
J'adore !
'Everyone gets Twitterpated'....he predicted the future there
Funny how they brought Ronno in so early, only to give him a name and a proper story-line years later in a completely different movie. Nice clip!
