I found out Monday that my Dad is giving me an f100. Now before anyone says anything, yes I know Im lucky. I am glad that you are doing all this work because I will be learning a lot form you. Keep the videos coming!
Congratulations on the truck that is a great gift!
Any update on the truck?
I think I watch these not just for the great content about our hobby, but also just to see what kind of mess Jeff and Cam get into next. "While were here" should be a show all in itself. Keep doing what you are doing. I added the group to my Facebook feed and my friends, also a bunch of computer nerds, laugh a lot so hopefully they will subscribe to the channel. Stay safe, and keep tinkering. :)
Thanks William!
i'm up here in P.A..and i had a 72 f100 4x4 with a 360 and n.p 435 tranny for 14 long and reliable years ..weather up here finally got the better of it..but looking at your truck all i can say is man..is that in real nice shape ...your truck is like a PA truck thats weathered about 8/10 years here...you guys got some nice stuff down your way ....absolutely my favorite generation of trucks are the 67/72..
Hay guys your video has been so helpful I have an old F250 1972 I'have had this truck over 35 years and just want to get it on the road . thanks
Our pleasure!
I need to do this job on my 73 f100, Thank You sooo much, looks somewhat easier than I thought cooool vid guys !
I am enjoying watching these videos. I have a 70 f250 2wd that was my dads and a 70 f250 4x4 that was my grandfathers. This video will be a lot of help when I do the bushings.
Glad you like them!
I really enjoy your videos.. Very informative.. You never trudge down just one avenue.. You really give options enjoyed the last video with all the suspension options for the f100
Glad you like them!
I got a front end rebuild kit for my 72 F100 Ranger XLT from Kanter Auto. After watching this video, I may attempt installation myself. There's a ton of stuff that needs attention and the money saved would go a long way toward making my truck better.
Glad we could help
Great info. I just ordered the prothane bushings for my 65 f100 based on your 5 upgrade video.
Why don't these guys have more views? Good stuff.
Tell folks!
Rebuilding my F250 soon with disc brake conversion, you guys have always been a favorite of mine and have REALLY helped me on my classic car journey. Never touched an I beam suspension but feeling confident can handle it. If anyone has any specific F250 advice, Im ALL ears. Kudos.
The front I-beam is the same on the 250 after the brakes come off. Good luck!
@@AutoRestoMod It actually looks a lot easier than when I did my 66 Galaxie. Way more room under there at least.
I think the only think I'm worried about doing is the spindle swap and the rod that the spindle connects through. Didn't see that posted on any videos (saw this, brakes, and some other things). Is it a difficult job? Do I need a press?
Well done boys. Memories of looking under the front of my father's '77 F-100 as a little kid and being completely fascinated by the truck, not understanding what I was looking at.
That I beam setup is wild looking for a kid I'm sure.
Did the power steering/disc brake upgrade 7 yrs ago. Didn’t have near as much fun as you guys. 😂
We cut out all the cussing.
You'll love the disc brakes on that heavy F100! My left quad is still bigger from when I had drum brakes...lol
THEO! hey you can catch pastor Steve on Sundays now! Get with me in an email and I can send you a link.
Great Video. I got to do this soon to my 79 F150.
I love these trucks! I get relocated to Florida I'm buying one.
fabulous work guys!
Thank you!
excellent video
Great video awesome truck. Keep those videos coming boys!
We will!
excelent video, do you know if the geometry of the 1971 f100 twin i bean is the same as that of the 1980 f150?
I want to buy a lift kit
GREAT work once again!!
Thanks!
You guys are the bomb🙏🏻 really enjoy your content! Have helped me a lot !!! Thanks guys keep it up💪🏻
Looks good I’d just want to do this to my 1972 f100 but want to lower it also at same time I’m changing it all to disc brakes ? Any kits you recommend for all of it
I have heard mixed reviews on drop beams, so I hesitate to give reviews there. Email me about the discs, I will contact my F100 friends and get some lowdown to share with you. Jford@autorestomod.com
I want to put dise brakes on the back of my 76 f100 any recommended kits I already have dise brake on the front
What is it called when your truck has 4 shocks on the front. I’ve only seen it on one other 93 model truck.
Wouldn’t you want to wait until the trucks on it’s tires back on the ground before tightening the radius arm bushings?
Awesome videos, thanks for making it!
great resource thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I have a 79 f100 and a 79 f250 the f100 has front end work that needs done finding the parts is hard thanks for the help on finding the new parts. On my f250 the wiring harness has cout on fire and is completely destroyed tring to install the American auto harness is not very easy because my f250 has factory ac and most of the original harness Hass been cut out and spliced it a mess and the trouble with that is I'm not one for wiring any on got any video with more detail to help
Good stuff you said not to tighten radius arm but so how tight should it be ? Thanks
80-120 ft.lbs.(with rubber bushings/plastic insulator) The "metal" spacers on the ends are just washers.
Have you guys put power steering on it yet
It was a factory power steering truck. That is a pretty complex undertaking on a '67 to '72. I might do a Manic Mechanic on that.
@@AutoRestoMod do you know if the power steering components are the same on 73-79 as the 68-72
Great work guys ijust need 2more hands to do that.
Thanks!
great show i have a 1972 f 250 camper speical getting redon org red
Nice! Thanks for the kind words.
Another great video! Are you planning to check the alignment with your QuickTrick setup before you take the truck in to get it fully aligned? It’d be fun to know how far off it was/is.
Are you lurking around while Cam and I discuss our doings? LOL. Yeah we are.
Can you touch on the camber / caster adjustment for it ?
None. The arms have to be bent by a qualified shop (think big trucks) same for caster.
@@AutoRestoMod Oh crap ...Fords better idea !
Autorestomod Manic Mechanic Gasoline Media
So, what exactly does that mean, because every one of these I’ve owned really needed ibeams bent to adjust and regular tire shops don’t have the equipment. I always hear heavy truck place, but does that mean they Remove or do they bend on the chassis? Because if they’re going to have to remove, labor is going to be so much I might as well just see if they’ll quote entire front end rebuild.
Do they have to take them in and out to bend, or is chassis strapped down and bent with jacking somehow? Thank you.
Reason I’m asking, I’m buying another 68 to replace one I rebuilt and sold years ago and entire front end needs rebuild.
Парни красавчики👍👍👍👋👋👋👋🖐️✊😁
Will 91 beams and spindle, will they work on a 75?
Nope. The only crossover is 1967-79.
Funny I went to a big semi truck shop once to get my 2wd 95 F-150 aligned after putting on a 2.5" lift kit, and they quoted me essentially $800...so while not knowing it at the time I went to the right place...I did not actually have them perform the work. But that probably explains why. They were going to rebend back my i-beams (had previously rear ended a car a summer or two earlier) as you mentioned in the video previous to this one. But yea, the poor college student found someone else to "align" my truck better than it was before.
I'm dreading doing this. Plus kingpins. My front crossmember is bent in the front side almost touching the I beam. What should I do? My tires are feathered pretty bad. From center to outer is slick and the inner tread looks new
It sounds like you need to take the truck to a body shop and get the cross member worked on. On. Alignment will probably have to be done by a semi truck alignment place they're the only ones that are gonna have the stuff that will ban the eye beams into the correct position but I wouldn't do anything until I got that frame fixed.
I need to replace my radius arms on my 71 f100. Someone bent them for some reason. I have a set from a 73 and was wondering if they will fit and what is the easiest way for a non mechanic to install them.
I have a 67 f100 and I'm fixing to change out my front suspension From drums too disk out of a 75 will everything bolt right up?
Suspension wise yes. It is still good to check out the Fordification site for an excellent break down on the different I-Beams. www.fordification.com/tech/Ibeamsspindles.htm
@@AutoRestoMod thank you
the Maverick came out with a non power, disk brake option. did the F100 ? will the master cylinder off the Maverick fit the f100 if you didnt want to go power brakes?
Yes. you will need to retain your F100 pushrod.
Hi. Can you tell me if the seal between the pitman arm and drag link is the same as the seals at the tie rods? I am assuming I need (4) of this seals instead of (2). Item F-3332-10A. Thank you.
On that particular style, it will be close. but no guarantee.
Now this what I'm talking about... I'm restoring a 91 E-150 so a bit different but same old setup . Its a full mechanical restoration so I have everything from pivot bushings / new radius arms and brackets .. kingpins new steering / springs and even a beefy new sway bar. everytime I go through the process in my head ( this is my first time ) I'm like.. well why not just get into a position to safely have the truck securely jacked and do the whole damn thing at once ( at least one side at a time) ... which actually is more realistic.. but seems much easier to do pivot bushings and kingpins etc. not to mention getting a nice protective paint on the I beams. It just helps to see someone else actually doing it but it feels the best way also while its all out of there allowing access to any frame/body portions to abrade and paint for proper restoration. Thanks for the upload!
I know this is an unrelated question but is it possible to change a 1st gen ranger I beam with a f100 I beam suspension
Do you have to install the axle pivot bushing before the radius arm?
It really doesn’t matter. But it will be easier if you install the Radius arm first. Then you can just slip the axle pivot up into place.
What if your radius arm does not have a castle nut? Do we drill a hole on the arm?
Also if you need a pitman arm, should we get it new or salvage yard?
Good point! No. Some radius arms use lock nuts, the arms that came with the I-Beams use this method. Just get a fresh set of lock nuts as they are not reusable.
Estou no Brasil como faço pra comprar de vocês!?
No tenemos el dinero para que alguien haga la transcripción. Y TH-cam hace un mal trabajo de transcripción.
My brother and I are doing this tomorrow...pray for us!
Hope it went well!
Where did you source the upper spring retainers?
National Parts Depot has them:
www.npdlink.com/product/retainer-front-spring-mounting-repro/143833?backurl=search%2Fproducts%3Fsearch_terms%3Df-5b300-7%26top_parent%3D0%26year%3D
I can now stop wondering where you came up with those cool wheels in Ford truck bolt pattern.
I found a set of stock Ford wheels...so these might be available soon! LOL
They'd fit the Galaxie, you know...
I put those adapters on there about 15 years ago those rims came from the Charlotte auto show about 20 years ago they were originally bought for my 1970 Torino I decided to go back to Stock on that car so I wanted to put them on the truck By the way I did not put that funky exhaust on there it was already on there
Thanks for the channel. I have a 96 Ranger with twin I-beams. I'm thinking that a lot of this applies to my Ranger. Can I get parts for my Ranger?
Most auto parts stores will have engine and driveline stuff. Most body parts can still be hand in the aftermarket. Soft trim, that will be harder to get.
deja vu,
I would still have been tempted to paint the parts black even if it were with a rattle can.
I was tempted...but I resisted temptation and it fled.
Did I just somehow miss where y'all did the spindle king pins?
What happened to Cam's Punisher mustang?
Well, here is the ballad of the Punisher engine: Cam killed the 302 dead, honestly it lasted longer than both of us figured, Then he bought a truck to pull the 5.0 and 4R70W out of...then he needed a truck to drive and so the parts truck became a driver truck...SO... the Punisher sits...waiting...patently. 😆
I have a 68 f100, and bought 79 f150 i-beams, will the pitman arm for the 79 fit on my 68 gear box?
I think so.
8:51, zerk fitting to zerk fitting...
What I should have said is center of zerk fitting hole to center of zerk fitting hole. But my brain is getting old.
If the bar on the right side is bent is is hard to replace
Bar meaning I beam or radius arm? Either way the safest thing to do is to remove the springs.
I know this is an old video but if anyone knows where to find that spring holder please let me know.
The stock wheels are 5 x 5.5
Yeah, I misspoke. Sad, my head is so full of useful information that is festooning a mental landfill. LOL
😎
😇
Spring clip is "borked" @ 5:52 :)
Yeah, we replaced them after the show aired.
i had a 69 f 250 camper special it had a rebuilt 390 2 bbl and the guy i bought it from had 5000 dollars worth of suspension done to it he then messed up the c6 and got mad and threw a boat oar through the back window and smashed the windshield. and tried to fix the steering wheel with a pair of vice grips. i learned how to replace transmissions and rebuild the steering column. i also found out the difference between car tans and a truck trans. unfortunately the truck was vandalised and burned to the ground.
That last part really sucks. Sorry it happened.
I want that yellow mustang.
Me too! 😆
Are we to bring our comments to this video "Take Two"? If so, the wheel bolt pattern on the truck is originally 5 on 5 1/2" not; 5 on 5".
And those are adapters not; spacers. Spacers simply push the wheel outward. Adapters change the bolt pattern, too. Semantics, I suppose.
You can. It is I misspoke.
my 1972 f100 i get a1977 dis brake
Take 2 😉
Yes. I gave the encoding software a solid talking to using colorful language and hand gestures. That and the voodoo doll seem to have done the trick.
Borderline PG to PG-13 with that weird Jane Fonda leg pumping action on the jack by Cam!
Dang I was going for the ARuh rating...If I could have I would have played these boots...
Skipped over king pin installation Smfh the only thing I need to know how to install
Well, it didn't need king pins...We will be doing king pins in the future.
6:25, I thought the camera was going to show you with a pickle fork stuck in your forehead...
Nah, his elbow nearly got me in the jewels though.
5 on 5.5
Normally that is correct, but our truck was modified and someone added a 5 on 4.5 pattern wheel to it.
IDK,maybe it's petty but why don't you clean and paint the work you do.I always do and did and customers are much happier.I'm just curious why you don't even clean parts your working on.
Because the undercarriage is pigliscious LOL. I have a leak in the front and rear main seal. They will be oily soon enough. If this were a customer car I would go the extra mile. But since it is mine...
I know you are probably sick of hearing it, but, for the love of God, please wear safety glasses or a face shield if you are gonna use those regular sockets with an impact. I worked with a guy that did that with a lug nut, and the socket shattered, sending a small piece of shrapnel right through his eye. Let's set a good example for the young-uns!
You are right. My anti-fog lens safety glasses broke a coouple months ago and I need to replace them. Our others are not anti-fog and as soon as I get working I sweat hey fog and I can't see. I've ordered some new ones just now.
Would you hush
please craftsman please send them some forking pickle forks please!
oh yeah and also..... Starliner!
OK bye
Actually Cam likes whacking things with a hammer.
Getting ready to take my 78 F100 in to get the beams bent, I have lowered it 3” in front and 4” in rear, I used the explorer coil springs on the front, drives great, just the camber is off some, hasn’t affected tire wear, I have a Facebook page for the truck, facebook.com/ithapnsgarage/
We'll check it out Daniel!
The worst front suspension Ford ever made...
Meh. There were worse.
