Why SG is rich ? : it was all started with MM Lee. He wiped out all corruptions. If any country has a system of government that is corruptible, the people will remain in poverty, illiterate and still living in slum even from generations to generations. Whether a country is rich or poor has a lot to do with its leader. The traits of a good leader must possess integrity and visions for the future of the people.

U r only partly correct about Singaporeans speaks English is why it attracts foreign investors. The truth is Sg being multiracial country, English is the working language and helps different races communicate effectively and understand each other creating racial harmony. Also the education system makes bi-lingual compulsory with English as the first language and mother tongue as the 2nd language. Hence, Sg can plug well into its surrounding region, with China, India & the West globally.

If you say, the Kra canal will destroyed Singapore's economy, you are extremely wrong. It won't cripple Singapore's economy because it relies on exports. Based on past year statistics, the increase of exports led to a faster growing economy. Singapore also has reserves which the country use when there isn't even a crisis to keep its economy running and growing.

You got it wrong, Singaporeans are not that rich ( only ranked no 19 by Wealth per capita ). You need to search under "List of countries by wealth per adult" from Wikipedia website and sort the Median Wealth column to see it. We are ranked no 10 by Mean Wealth. What the difference means is there are some very rich people in the country but the average Singaporean is not that rich. However we are ranked very high for GDP per capita especially after considering PPP. GDP per capita only means productivity is very high ( maybe we do more overtimes than people in developed countries ).

U may not be rich but avg Singaporeans are rich so pls don’t measure by your own standard. Another fact is sg has the highest density of rich ppl, 1 in 6 households in SG are millionaires, tell me how many countries can achieve that?? Both sg citizens & Govt are considered rich that’s why sg is richest in sg.
Countries like china is richest only if u measured by the size of their large populations, but their avg ppl is not rich. China is rich because their Govt is vy rich(imagine the size of personal taxes they get to collect yearly from their 1.5 billion ppl)😂😂
Avg salary in china so low, they have one of lowest in the world,is about 6-7 times lower than S’pore(Sg has the HIGHEST avg salary in asia). Many mistaken china has many rich ppl but is because they have huge population of 1.5 billion ppl😂And the only way for them to be rich is to be in business or be self employed online influencer since they have a huge size of audience that they can get their $$ resources from😊

@@monalisaaltenburg4879 Please check from Wikipedia from the search buzzwords that I provided. There is a difference between real wealth and productivity. Please sort the "Medium Wealth" portion to see whether we are really that rich being behind Hong Kong people (less than half as rich), Taiwanese and Japanese. What I really wanted to say is we are not really that rich to be top 5 in the world; we are at least 40% poorer than the no 10 nation in the world. The millionaires we have are not the average Singaporeans. Also if there are 5 fellows in a millionaire household, that means on the average, each family member has only $200K ( not 1 million ). I am sure most Singaporeans would agree with me that they do not feel rich always having financial stress over many things but of course there are also many that already achieved financial freedom ( I am not one of them ). And we are poorer by "medium wealth" and "mean wealth" than Americans ( the benchmark nation in the video ) .

When the people don’t have quality of life, what is the point of being a rich country? When the people are working and taxes literally death! What is the point of being a rich country? Bottom line: The people should have quality of life, the government should care for the poor and the unfortunate. Overall a balance of managing and govern with reasonable rules! Not with iron fist and only the elites or their supporters benefit! This is not a rich country.

I would say Singaporeans have not gone soft, but remain hardworking and travel a lot. Based on the mantra 'work hard, play harder'. The younger generation understands that the small base the nation is built on is not to be taken for granted. As once it is gone, it is very hard to build back. From my experience as an advanced Care Professional, the general public is well taken care of and the older folks told me they have seen so many changes in a single generation, and loved fruitful lives so far. When asked if they are happy, yes they tell me they are. I am also happy to be working hard and travelling to Iceland, ticking an item off the bucket list etc. no worries mate, we Singaporeans are enjoying the world-class infrastructure and a clean and green city for sure coupled with low crime rates and ability for women to walk the streets at night without any risk of danger or kidnapping!

Can you define quality of life?

    • @cybilair9003
      @cybilair9003 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@philiplim2718 Quality of life can be determined by primary indicators such as income and job, housing, education, life-work balance, interpersonal relationships, infrastructure and services, and access to cultural and leisure activities.
The Skills future initiative provides $500 in initial top up followed by subsequent periodic tops ups for up skilling, career conversion, course fees, and complimentary specialised career advisory for members of the general public.
In terms of housing the typical Asian practice of children living with their parents until they are ready to make their own life applies. There are multiple welfare organisations and support groups to cater to adjustments to adulthood and continuing education as well.
Life-work balance depends on the individual, whether they want to fully utilise their annual leaves apart from office hours, generate more income from overtime, encash their leaves, utilise their compliance leaves so on so forth. Parental leaves for the dads and moms lasting weeks also apply.
The infrastructure is generally world class, with Singapore having the longest underground driverless mass rapid transit network in the world which is a decent achievement.
Services in the form of hospitality and tourism are decent, with hotels and butlers having served Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and other artistes. Singapore functions as a SEA hub for etc. US, China, Turkey companies to provide internatiinal customer support be it remote, sales, and a host of daily business operations due to a conducive environment for business set-up and continuity.
A secular, multi-racial culture is promoted with mosques, temples and churches operating peacefully next to each other. We even go to workplaces and schools as friends, so I don't see why race or religion should pose a difference based on meritocracy.
Leisure activities are abundant with 63 islands to hop from and to, Universal Studios, fun and cultural museums (ice cream/trick eye or civilisation museums), 5 nature reserves, plenty of interest groups for acting, singing, dancing, chess, too many to mention.
That's what I've got so far on my mind please, I welcome feedback and an understanding of your perspective :)

This video needs to be balanced with reality.
Singapore is a plutocracy. Suicide rate among the young and elderly has risen over the last decade. Mental institution is crowded . Chinatown is filled with the homeless. There had been excess deaths since the mandatory covid vaccination. Property prices are excessive eg a new 100 sqm 4 room HDB flat costs $750,000. A new 1.5 litre average Japanese car costs $200,000. Universities fees cost between $10,000 and $30,000 pa. Political parties that challenge the ruling party are mocked in Parliament. Many young and talented graduates have emigrated to Australia, US , UK and New Zealand. Staple and basic food prices have skyrocketed over the last 10 years. Essential services like hair salon and telecommunication have increased prices. Car petrol fuel costs had increased by around 100% over the last decade. Gasoline Prices in Singapore averaged 1.66 USD/Liter from 1990 until 2023, reaching an all time high of 2.89 USD/Liter in September of 2023. So if you think it is happy country, think again! Indeed they are happy, woefully happy only fulfilling the Winner's Curse. Think deeper, who are the ones that actually benefits in Singapore?

Not true. Firstly one has to compare apples to apples. Singapore should be compared to a similar size city because of its size. Being a finance center the GDP is mainly due to other countries' rich people depositing their money there . As such the money actually does not belong to Singaporeans but is accounted as theirs. The gap of rich and poor is very big and getting bigger. 80% of the people live in "heartlands" or HDB flats and eat in foot courts, not the show piece finance centers. As for education it does have a good education but basically it is a "civil servants" production line. A continuation of the British colonial education that produces an educated class to staff various service sectors. So far Singapore universities have not produced any cutting edge in basic sciences or applied technology. It is a well run country but it has its limitations. It is a good place to live but definitely not richer than USA.

You must be crazy to say this. Singapore will be a poor nation without the American FDIs. Singapore is thriving due to the American FDIs. If they pull out the FDIs, Singapore economy will be drained.
Secondly, GDP per capita is the biggest flaw in the world of ecomonics because it assumes the corporate income is also the income of the ordinary people on the road, which means Singapore airlines revenue is apportioned to all the Singaporeans whereas in actual case they do not even get a penny from that.
GDP per capita also does not look at the real profitability of the corporates, it just aggregates all the revenue of the corporate which is another crazy math.
Lastly, thousands of Singaporeans are queing to migrate into the US every year and if they are indeed rich, they should stay back home.
