    Abrasion resistance is my number 1 factor. I will use nylon monofilament for most situations but I do fish for toothy critters and that's when I will only use fluorocarbon (or fluoro leader and titanium tippett)

      But you may be wrong... Nylon seems to be more abrasion resistent than fluorocarbon, by a considerable amount. Just look at the tests performed by the Salt Strong TH-cam channel!
      It seems that the only reason to use fluorocarbon is indeed it's higher density. And the difference is so slight that may only be significant in fly fishing.

      @DropeVougher on average fluorocarbon lines have more abrasion resistance. Some newer fluorocarbon lines, especially from Seaguar, are known to be softer than other fluorocarbon and may be as soft or softer than nylon. Some of the stiffer fluorocarbon lines seem to be more abrasion resistant.

      @@differentfins based on what tests are you making this claim? Who said? The manufacturer??
      Feel free to keep your faith but that's not what the evidences are suggesting.
      That's what the manufacturer is saying to make you and me spend more money

      @DropeVougher based on 3rd party testing I have seen here on TH-cam. Chill man, are you a mono salesman or something? Do some research and you'll see many mixed results. Also I have been fishing for 30+ years and from my personal experience mono gets bite offs more than Fluoro. I spent most of my life as a pike fisherman and know their sharp teeth slice through mono very easily but rarely does it happen with fluorocarbon. Go preach somewhere else.

      @@differentfins personal experiences are irrelevant in science. They are prone to prejudgements, marketing and irrational faith.
      I'm no salesman of any kind. But I do have good training in science and in the scientific method.
      Unfortunately we don't have proper trials to make a final conclusion but the evidences point in the opposite direction of your claim. And if the results are mixed as you suggest than the more reasonable option would be the least expensive.
      But nobody is obliged to be reasonable here and we are free to practice our faith, should it be Islam or fluorocarbon.
      Until we don't have proper unbiased trials, a good quality nylon monofilament is the way to go and if abrasion is a concern just pick a larger diameter mono and keep inspecting and cutting out the abraded portion after every single fish.
      All the best for you!

    Fluorocarbon has almost a 100% light refraction rate ie. It's virtually invisible underwater.
    That's a big difference...

    • @DropeVougher
      @DropeVougher ปีที่แล้ว

      And what about the hook? Is it invisible?
      Still we all catch fish... Actually some time a exposed hook is more efficient than hidden ones.
      Just think about that!

    Fluoro doesn’t degrade when exposed to uv so it’s not an environmentally responsible choice. I thought us fly fishermen cared for the environment? Using $5 nylon tippet spools & outfishing guys using $30 “invisible” fluoro tippet is one of fishing’s underrated highlights.

      Precisely how is the use of fluorocarbon not caring for the environment? You act as if fishermen are running around wrapping the trees and the fish in the stuff.

    • @DropeVougher
      @DropeVougher ปีที่แล้ว

      That's completely irrelevant, dude. Maybe you should stop fishing altogether if that's a concern for you.
