try to do this in the summer of in a heated garage with the heater on for at least an hour. warm clips are flexible and less prone to breaking especially on older cars
Seems like a pretty cool upgrade, lot less work than upgrading CIC --> NBT evo (which I did, and required a whole lot more disassembling) Nice video also.
Installed this in my M6 GC around 2 years ago and it has been working pretty well ever since. Occasional freezes and crashes but nothing outside of the ordinary. Was told by my installer not to magsafe/wireless charge my iphone while using it which can cause the carplay to freeze.
@@bimmer-tech So I got it installed and all my car's original functionality is there, but when I switch over to the MMI I only get a red screen for a couple of minutes and then the screen goes black.
The USB cable can be installed wherever you want as long as you can easily access it after the installation to plug your phone with the MMI, update the MMIs software, or even play some music from a USB stick. If you want it hidden, you can contact our support team, they'll show you how to tuck it in neatly.
@@bimmer-tech so if you're only going to be using the Android Auto through the bluetooth, it's basically only used for software updates? is it even possible to connect to Android Auto with bluetooth?
Yes, this is a Wireless CarPlay. And in terms of installation, you probably have a CIC head unit, so this instal tutorial would be better for you: th-cam.com/video/Nu9lMGj6WRo/w-d-xo.html. But please make sure you have a CIC first, you can check it by entering your VIN here: www.bimmer-tech.net/category-bmw-carplay-mmi-retrofit. The wireless charging shouldn't cause any interference, but being extra cautious is never a bad option :D
Great video as always!
I’ve installed the unit in my 2011 640 convertible, the original interface works but when activating the unit it shows an orange blank screen.

Hi, I have a 2013 F12 BMW M6 and want to know if it is necessary to install the microphone and AUX cable if I install the MMI Prime?
The Aux cable coding is necessary in this case :)
@@bimmer-tech So I got it installed and all my car's original functionality is there, but when I switch over to the MMI I only get a red screen for a couple of minutes and then the screen goes black.
In that case you should contact our support: support@bimmer-tech.net
Did you need to install the microphone? Is it necessary if there is already an oem microphone installed in the car?
is the usb cable gonna be hanging there? Do you have to install it if you just use it wirelessly?

does the MMI audio connect to Aux, which reduces the sound quality?
I have B&O speakers and sound quality is bad with aux when compared with USB
Yes the MMI Prime works only via AUX, but the sound quality is still decent.
Nice video but was looking forward to seeing it in motion and actually working.
This is just an installation video. We have a couple other video on our channel that show it working with our new UI and iOS14!

Can you integrate maps with the HUD? Or directions
Unfortunately not through the CarPlay MMI Prime
Will this work on a 2015 bmw 650i or can I replace the screen with the new ones?
Also does it void warranty?

You mean the original iDrive menu? Yes, you get to keep it and toggle between the two with a press of the controller.
