I was always wondering how the R drives. I own a 2018 GTI and its quite fun to drive. Handling and agility is nice. When bad weather comes thats when it is a struggle. I bet that R is really fun to drive too and it also must run well even in bad weather.
Golf R are more like safe because AWD and GTI are more like trying to get grip or some would say a little unsafe/more fun but I get y'alls points. I never driven either but I drove a car almost like a GTI since its FWD and when it rains I tend to enjoy it a lot
Go to Carmax and test drive one, I had a manual 2011 GTI and sold it and I missed driving manual so much that I just rented a manual 2017 Golf R for 24 hours from a nearby carmax. The acceleration was strong but nothing too crazy, however it was true insanity on windy roads. I took it down some of my favorite windy roads in mexico and the grip was endless, the car felt very confident, heel toe downshifting was easy, it did whatever you wanted it to do without any drama and it had the torque and grip to pull you out of really tight corners which I kinda felt my GTI lacked. Was seriously a ton of fun. Makes me really wonder how it would compare to a Type R or Focus RS
You can barely feel the rain on a golf R I had both gti and now changed to an R. Will take R any day over GTI but gti looks cool as well but awd is a huge difference for launching and traction for sure, you will feel more handling, stability and speed for sure. My R is APR stage 2 and I’m planning to upgrade even further in the future but won’t be my daily driver anymore after that. For now daily driving it, it’s always a preasure on the road and it’s very underrated against super cars as it runs faster or almost the same.
It’s somewhat different when your the car tagging as you have a less of a view as to what’s in front when tailing until you come around in front ,takes skill and guts at top speeds :) love it tho people , god bless all

Really disappointed.. where is the crash? .... thought there might be a spectacular one so that we could say " they got what they deserved". Driving like that, its only a matter of time before their luck runs out and they take some innocent driver with them... Driving like that requires a jail sentence

I got a golf R stage 2 running 410bhp but I’ve never drove a GTI but hear there more fun. Il have to find out one day.

Not really. In a Golf R the overtaking and manouvering power comes effortlessly. With a little practice its not that hard to drive like that.
