- My Dawless Jam Setup!
Today I'm showcasing my new dawless jam setup for the very first time! Everything is routed into the 1010 Bluebox, allowing me to use the Polyend Play + to sequence everything, as well as give me a mode where all the audio can be routed to the MPC Key 37 for sampling or recording. I'm not very proficient with it yet, but I'm so excited to improve! Enjoy the video :)

Very cool setup! Would be interesting to know more about the Blue Box. Are you still using the zoom livetrak too?
I'll do more on the Bluebox soon! And yeah, the Livetrak is still back at the main filming desk/computer desk area of the studio. This jam setup is just too far from the Livetrak to be able to use it well haha.

Is there an advantage to recording into the Zoom instead of just using the Bluebox?
As a content creator, yes. The built in microphone allows me to easily drop a sync clap before filming and instantly have that be in sync with the LR audio ins as well. If I wasn't recording for the video I would have just used the bluebox to record. Great question, thanks for watching!

Looks like you’re able to make use of the blue box’s UI. I wasn’t vibing with it and the TX-6 solved all the problems I had with the blue box and many other mixers.

It's pretty weird but also very versatile! Right now in this setup it's basically just a sound module, but it really excels in that role as well. Thanks for watching :)
What’s the strengths of the play as a sequencer compared to the deluge(community ver.) for you pls?
I just find the play to be a lot more practical for generating jumping off points, as well as being a lot easier to follow due to the screen (I still haven't upgraded my Deluge to the OLED). Thanks for watching!

Yup, just like I mentioned in the video, none of the levels were set properly yet, this was only day 2 of trying to figure out the setup haha.
love it .. can you talk about how you did your power? I've ran into ground loop issues several times using the 1010 blue box because everything is USB powered these days. I've yet to find a good USB "power strip" to drive everything.
Have you tried using a standalone USB brick to power that and everything else using the USB powehub?
I don't have anything plugged in directly USB. I'm using standalone USB power bricks for everything that needs USB power haha.
Nice setup. What’s the role you’ll give to the verselab in this setup, as the polyend is the sequencer ?
Right now it's just going to be a sound module. It's amazing in that role since it's got 7 individually controllable tracks of those sweet Roland presets haha. Honestly, just the Play and the Verselab would be an insanely powerful combo on their own!
@@FreeBeat I wonder if you could record into a vocal take on the Verselab and use its built-in mic for the sync clap?
I'm curious, why the play as controller, instead of the mv1?
It's just so great at breaking through writers block, and generating random patterns for jumping off points!
What does the verselab do for your setup is it just for it's sound engine?
Right now just a sound engine, yeah. But a damn good one!

I love working without a DAW. I mean, I grew up doing that, bpm matching is how we did it before some of us knew how to use midi.

“Make a jam that uses multiple instruments, and if it is your thing only hardware instruments in a dawless set up” would be a nice monthly challenge

Do you follow a system for choosing MIDI channels? When you have mini / 5 pin / usb midi options which do you go with? I've picked up channel 10 is often drums and people tend to default to channel 1.
Kind of but not really. I went with 1-7 for the tracks on the MV-1, since that just simplified that whole thing, then channel 8 for the Model D since it's right next to the MV-1, then channel 9 for the Microfreak since it's also on that row, channel 10 for the Razzmatazz since drums are usually channel 10 anyway, then channel 11 for the Fireball since it's the only thing left haha. Hi Free Beat, just wondering what you use or would suggest for speakers for my Digitakt and the like...
I have Beyerdynamic headphones and they sound great of course but using speakers and an amplifier even, it doesn't sound the best. Would the bluebox correct the speakers or is it more of a quality of speakers issue? They get loud of course and some stuff sounds good on them but not everything like with my headphones.

***Honorable mentions if you can afford to increase the budget by $200 I’d look at ADAM Audio T7V 7 inch Powered Studio Monitor or just buy a PreSonus Eris Sub 8BT 8-inch Powered Bluetooth Studio Subwoofer to add to the Yamaha.

To be honest with i haven’t done any research on stage monitors so maybe you should speak to an Sweetwater sales representative they’re pretty knowledgeable.
