You know, this might be a little different, but I think this was one of my favourite videos to work on to date, this movie really is something special.

In my eyes on of the best Animes of the last decade. I even got myself the Manga. A real masterpiece which I can sadly relate to.

I remember being fascinated by the art while watching this tale. The plot and theme of the story are obvious, but to me, it was the choice of vehicle that made this worth watching. This story to me was as you stated finding a meaning to life. The lingering regrets that are left even when dead. The attachment, desire, for one more second. The film did that elegantly, but nonetheless, hampered by the short runtime. The character could obviously be more fleshed out, their lives shown to greater detail, and their journey to find meaning extended.
It was an excellent watch, something I like to compare it to is Natsume's Book of Friends.
There are plenty of animes that portray a similar theme of finding a meaning to life, Welcome to the NHK, March Came in like a Lion, Usagi Drop, From a New World, and many many more. But this short film of 40min does well in the space and is absolutely worth the watch.

This is such a great write up! I genuinely think if this film had even just another 15 minutes it would have benefitted the characters greatly, that being said I still felt for them and was rooting for them to overcome their struggles to a degree.
I haven't actually seen (nor read) Natsume's Book of Friends but it's something I think would be up my street so 'll be checking that out for sure! :)

@@heysaladdaze Yea the OVA was great, as stated could always benefit from an extra 15mins.
Intrigued to hear what you think of Natsume is a personal favorite of mine.
