CRE torch is handy to see right down the hole of passages to check for any cooties. And cleaning the carb is a good time to figure out exactly how it each system works in it by tracing the path of all the passages in it. Noting where the air bleed and fuel passages go and maybe mix together in it before discharging in the bore which can make it easier tuning if you have a mental image of sorts of how its all operating inside..
How can anybody dislike your advice. I am sure they have thier problems. And where is thier channel? I drive Volvos, those unlike are into a world of hurt! Love you my friend
Hi Mr Stuffing , all these procedures were followed and apart from drilling out the needle hole in the plastic slider [ luckily i noticed the needle wouldn't pass through easily allowing shim s to function , AMAZING ] i have smooth strong power on tap. Can't thank you enough , cheers
Lay the needle on a flat surface with the e-clip opening down then just push the needle down with your other hand holding the e-clip. Very simple and you won't risk bending the needle or losing the e-clip.

2STROKE STUFFING excuse me I got a aftermarket exhaust for my quad and they recommend rejetting which will stop the backfiring issue and could you just adjust the air fuel mixture to act as rejetting or no
First I made sure the floor was spotless, then I started on the carburettor on the floor so I can find the clip if it runs away :-) Excellent video, sir :-)
Good tip on the pilot- hey man, so ive been working on bikes for 20 years, and still trying to find out how to achieve max power. Example - couple of years ago my best friend bought a little 90s fzr400, we test rode it and it was SMOKING fast. Pulled all carbs apart to put kits in and clean them - did some minor float height checks, new floats etc. When we got it back together it still ran very good but was lacking that "Awesome" power it had before.. Earlier example - my first adult bike was a 77 cb750- i ran out of gas once and a guy picked me up with the exact bike just dual cams, he almost rode me off the back, all stock - I couldnt believe the power!! Im still stumped! I have JUST used a GAUGE style bike carb sync tool for the first time (made my own manometer one before) and will know next week if this has been the issue all along! I would usually tune pilot jets for max vacuum - THEN make adjustments on idle vac, AND compare at part throttle and tune the carbs on the part throttle more than idle.. Hopefully this works well and is the correct approach.. Anyway thanks - great tips! (pun intended)..

Good day. Based on my experience, prior setting pilot and main jet and needle, we must set float level first. I waste a lot of times try to rejetting, and still can't figure out the perfect combination, because i neglect float level. Eventually i realized my float level is to lean, after set it right, i can gain fine power in low mid and end rpm. Saving your time by set it float level first, hope it helps.
Old timer taught me you can also set float height with the carb and bowl off with the fuel line attached and fuel on then bending the float lever until fuel stops flowing while holding the carb as level as possible. Kind of messy though lol
If you not have compressor, you can blow it with tire pump. Close big cannels and connect pump into bottom drain. Air go every holes eventually. Maybe for iddle jet that is too harsh, because it can inclute some metallic filler? I got some clogging with them.

I'm have an old Yamaha aerox 100cc with a 124cc bore kit on it and the standard carb is 19mm I did change the carb size to 25mm and jets to suit it following people on the forums and it idles and runs fine apart from full throttle and it starts bogging down but everything below full throttle feels good , any tips on what I'm missing out on because I can't figure it out 👍🏼
could you explain how to choose carb size for different setups? Im in the process of tuning yamaha neos with minarelli horizontal, just purchased airsal cast iron 70 and wondered how to choose carb size and type (pwk, phbg and so on) for it. loved your channel btw, you are very talented. did you have any professional training?
Nice video. I have a question. On my Zündapp 70cc I have mounted a 24mm Oko D-slide carburetor. I have read that many people are blocking the 'Powerjet' system of the carburetor because it affects the adjustment negative. How do you think about this? Because the powerjet gives more fuel on the full throathle to cool the engine?
+david voges Thanks! The RC fuel (methanol and nitromethane) will probably not mix very well with gasoline. You could try to add some acetone as a mixing agent and see how it behaves. Running it straight or diluted with methanol is probably better!
I would go further when you say tune the idle jet first, the idle jet meters a minimum fuel flow, it still meters the same fuel you have set it to flow at idle when the bike is at any other throttle setting, at full throttle the idle jet is still flowing fuel, it is impossible to tune a bike from the main jet backwards as changes to the idle jet after you have found a main jet that works for you will alter mixture at throttle setting where the main jet comes into play.
Dude you rock! I purchased an old racing mod fl250 2 stroke engine with a mikuni carb. When I putt it around at 1/4 to 3/4 throttle then close the throttle it wants to run on almost like a stuck Throttle. It will run like that for 10 seconds or so then fall back down to idle. If I am pulling a load it won’t run on. only on flat smooth surfaces. I Cleaned the carburetor & it still does it. Any advice would be appreciated.

well pretty much run rich in winter and lean in summer you can check if you are running lean/rich if you take of your spark plug and inspect it.. brown is perfect, white is too lean, black is too rich if you dont find the perfect mix then better run rich
Best way to learn is just do it. Pay as much attention as you possibly can though. A simple little screw up on carb reassembly can cause a no start and you're left scratching your head. So take your time and any screws that have adjustments, write down how many turns it takes to seat it. I always run the scres IN until it bottoms out and count the number of turns, to the 1/4 or 1/8 turn at least. Then just run them all the way in on reassembly and back off how every much it was to start then make adjustments if necessary. Biggest thing it just takes time, and try to be patient. I've been playing with bike carbs since i was like 11, and it took me years to really get them. Of course that was a decade before google and youtube.lol I'd have given my left nut for the info you kids have now. I HAD to just learn on my own, or some from buddies.
@@salvadordollyparton666 So I'm relatively new to bike maintenance procedures. Carbs continue to elude me but I'm determined to figure it out. I removed the carb from a Buddy 125 I just bought because while it would start when giving any gas would kill the engine. So, figured a good carb cleaning was in order. Plus the seller told me that it could probably use a good cleaning when I bought it. That being said I dismantled the entire thing, cleaned throughly, used fine wire to clear the tiny holes and everything. However, in my naivety I didn't pay attention to the original positions of the pilot or main jets. Now I have no idea where to even start. The bike won't start at all now. How do I set up or reassemble the carb so I can get it running again. I feel confident I can tune it up once I get it running but could call I have done something so wrong that I can't get it back to where I started? I mean at least now it's clean but I'm at a loss. Any help would be much appreciated!
Just had to sub to your channel, I so love 2 strokes and you are crazy smart. But now I'm trying to tune a 4 stroke. It's a yamaha FZ in a legends race car. It idles okay mid range okay full throttle okay but it does not like coming off throttle to idle, it dies especially when it's hot. How about a 4 stroke stuffing channel? haha
Hi im having a problem with my scooter honda dio 1, i can make it idle and run good but after half throttle it bogs. will try this hope i can get some advices how to make it run good. awesome tips for 2strokes🤘
Hi. Your videos are brilliant! Do you know if a 4 stroke carb with work on a 2 stroke engine? I currently have a pumper carb but as I've now positioned the fuel tank above the engine, I want to use a float bowl carb...
Excuse me I dont get what you say what need to happen(when its right or to rich/lean) after remove the mainjet and go full throttle to find the right needle/-jet
Very Good video. I have a problem. My service manual specs two different size of pilot jets 35 and 40. 40 is in there now . I'm experiencing plug fouling at low speeds when its warm temperatures outside. Also poor fuel mileage. This is on a 2 stroke snowmobile. If I go to 35 will this damage the engine? Thank you, Mark.
Hey man, I’ve got a Chinese 50cc with a flat slide carburettor I don’t know how to tune it. I recently put Racing ignition and big bore 70cc cylinder and head. Both engine and big bore kit was brand new I feel like the engine doesn’t want to rev or start it’s pretty Smokey and after 10 minutes of running the plug was pretty wet
Although a 2 stroke and 4 cycle engine are different, is tuning the carb principles still the same? My 30mm flatslide on my built 301cc Predator is kicking my butt!
So I'm having a problem: Full throttle low rpm, goes ok until mid range, just before powerband about to hit. There it starts hesitating/delaying/bogging/you know what I mean? But it runs good with less throttle. Honda CR80R -01. Any thoughts? Cheers!
Could be it's going rich at the spot where the pipe is "fighting" the scavenging. Tricky, smaller mainjet could help, but could make it too lean up top. A powerjet tuned right, in addition to a smaller main would probably be the best solution.
after how many hours of running do you spot "slime" in months of not using your powertrains ? E5 is in a short time with a "crystaline rests" at some fittings/tank infill , if the injektion jet is clean i still do not know but i ask my maintenence garage/dealer it was not sand particle out of the durch coast line !!! E5 is stupid after few miles for example ~600miles and silicone plus nitro methan (RC car 1:10 mix) starts smelling and bleaching the flex pipes if i was not playing for a year
Hey I have this broblem with my moped when I fully open throttle and accelerate to the top it starts bogging. Then if I reduce the throttle to 3/4 - 2/4 the top speed increases. Running too rich?
I am currently getting my carb tuned. And this is exactly what mine is doing. Clearly .y mechanic is learning but he started from a larger jet and the bogging happening. He told me he is next going to move the ring again. I don't know, I want to tell him to go back to the larger jet and move the ring then. Cause if he seizes up my engine again, he is gonna buy yet another top end and I am sure he is not wanting to do that. Lol. Thanks.
I think your videos are so helpful to folks, could you help me please. I have a lambretta scooter 195cc it when I ride it it seems to stutter a lot at low revs but clears when I open throttle more, any ideas to make stop stuttering please?
Great tips sir! very nice! I have a question, Which Carburetor type works best on a 4stroke Scooter? Butterfly Valve, Round Slider or Flat Slider just like the one you have there?
+Nathanael Sangalang Thanks! Can't say much about what's best in a 4 stroke, not exactly my field. But most flatslide carbs outflow most round slide carbs, and most round slide carbs outflow most butterfly valve carbs.
I don't think you will find exactly what you need. You can though place a clear tube on the overflow, clamp it somewhere so it's vertical and open the float drain screw. The fuel level will be visible in the clear tube and it will be very precise (assuming you have proper venting).
Hello! Awesome video!! With tons of info ;) this helps a lot!!! Question: I have the Keihin PWKS 38 ( GasGas EC300) but i can´t find a chart (temperature/altitude) like the ones of the Keihin PWKS 36 (easy to find on ktm or husqvarna website for example). Can we use the jetting of the 36 for the 38?! And then do some tweaks on airscrew or needle maybe?
I have a question. What would be the problem with a 2 stroke motor revving max RPM's when you first start it up without even giving it gas? It will max RPM on start up for like a minute until it warms up and goes back down to idle. I've checked and I don't think the slide is sticking or maybe it is? Any ideas what might cause the motor to start off on max RPM's on initial startup?
Probably a leak somewhere after the carb where it is sucking in air causing it to lean out en revv high. If things reach temperature the leakage might seals because some rubbers or other parts expand
hey man thanks for your videos !! i need your advice, what is the best size of main jet for dellorto sha 14 12 , 50 cc engine without flap valve and without resonator exhaust (sorry for bad English XD )
it's better if you use a air filter because you can use a larger diameter intake for the filter, i have problems where in brasil w/ this carb, because the filter intake is too smal and the bike don't raize de rpm well, so i use this adapter for use a larger diamenter intake... sry for bad english, i'm brazilian... =D
For my set up it is recomended a 30mm PHBH with main jet 135-145, min jet 58-60, atomizer 266-268, pin X3 throtle valve 40 But if i use a PWK 30mm, what jets do you recomend ? Thanks for any help
hello i'm kinda new into those things. i have a 300 2stroke which doesn t keep the idle if i don t use the throttle. when i bought it the mechanic told me that the needle (in your video) was supposed to go up before starting the bike and then go down once started. any tips?
I’ve rejected my carb about 4 times now, just adjusting the screws. Quarter minute into riding and the pilot screw from the first carb keeps coming out and bogging the engine. Any way to keep it tight and have it adjusted?
Do you have a video about powerjets? I have a 2 stroke 200cc quad that was modified with an aftermarket 28mm Keihin carb with no power jet and the port soldered shut. I am more than capable of modifying the port, do you think a powerjet is worth it without upgrading the ignition/CDI?
2STROKE STUFFING ok thanks! I just got the machine, still need to tune the idle, install a proper needle clip and pack the exhaust silencer. Would the silencer being wide open affect the tune? It currently has no packing or end cap.

I feel confident I can tune it up once I get it running but could call I have done something so wrong that I can't get it back to where I started? I mean at least now it's clean but I'm at a loss. Any help would be much appreciated!
Wow really needed this video thank you
Have the same carb on order from China. Are you still interested in doing a motorized bicycle
+derk nobit Great! Yep, I am!
Messed up may PayPal transfer will be Nov 7 for sure
+derk nobit ☺️
Just had to sub to your channel, I so love 2 strokes and you are crazy smart. But now I'm trying to tune a 4 stroke.
It's a yamaha FZ in a legends race car. It idles okay mid range okay full throttle okay but it
does not like coming off throttle to idle, it dies especially when it's hot.
How about a 4 stroke stuffing channel? haha
Hi im having a problem with my scooter honda dio 1, i can make it idle and run good but after half throttle it bogs. will try this hope i can get some advices how to make it run good. awesome tips for 2strokes🤘
S as me here did you ever figure out what it was
Thanks dude really helpful tips
For to see fuel level, clear tube from drain to upwards show level.
Thanks very helpful infomation !
VERY DETAIL
Great vid...many turtle🐢
Very Good video. I have a problem. My service manual specs two different size of pilot jets 35 and 40. 40 is in there now . I'm experiencing plug
fouling at low speeds when its warm temperatures outside. Also poor fuel mileage. This is on a 2 stroke snowmobile. If I go to 35 will this damage the engine? Thank you, Mark.
Thanks! Sounds like that 38 would be better!
@@2STROKESTUFFING Would this mean I would have to change the main jet as well ?
Liked and subbed. To the point and extremely helpful
Thanks!
My 30mm flatslide on my built 301cc Predator is kicking my butt!
short and easy video to comprehend
So I'm having a problem:
Full throttle low rpm, goes ok until mid range, just before powerband about to hit.
Your advice rock ! You rock ! Thanks !
Thanks!
after how many hours of running do you spot "slime" in months of not using your powertrains ? E5 is in a short time with a "crystaline rests" at some fittings/tank infill , if the injektion jet is clean i still do not know but i ask my maintenence garage/dealer
it was not sand particle out of the durch coast line !!! E5 is stupid after few miles for example ~600miles
and silicone plus nitro methan (RC car 1:10 mix) starts smelling and bleaching the flex pipes if i was not playing for a year
Is this principal the same for 4-stroke engines ?
I have one too from a old boat motor 1950s made in Ohio USA. And the bottom part is glass.
Hey I have this broblem with my moped when I fully open throttle and accelerate to the top it starts bogging. Then if I reduce the throttle to 3/4 - 2/4 the top speed increases. Running too rich?
Sounds lean, try a larger mainjet.
I like that you use a ram jet engine to heat up your garage.
You're a genius.
Thanks...
Where did you get that clear red float bowl? I likes that
Brotherman, your to smart for me and I have a 3 digit IQ, ok, more than 101 and less than 150 !
T4
How much does the slide cutaway affect ? Can it be used to compensate for poor needles ?
It can, at least below 1/2 throttle.
But most flatslide carbs outflow most round slide carbs, and most round slide carbs outflow most butterfly valve carbs.
ohh. i see. now i get it, btw Thanks as always man! 😄

Your knowledge is limitless. Do you maybe know a place to get clear float bowls for mikuni vm-type carbs? Can't find them anywhere lol. Greetz.
+Von Bergerfurth Thanks, not close to limitless tho... Hmm, not sure about that one. Tried ebay?
I don't think you will find exactly what you need. You can though place a clear tube on the overflow, clamp it somewhere so it's vertical and open the float drain screw. The fuel level will be visible in the clear tube and it will be very precise (assuming you have proper venting).
Sketch1994 there is no float drain screw in a mikuni vm20. I'm just interested in it for cosmetic purposes anyway.
Very helpful info. Thanks
Thanks!
Is the power jet really needed in a 4 stroke engine? Some people say I should disable it. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Not needed in most cases on both 2t/4t
@@2STROKESTUFFING I see. Thanks for the reply!
How do ineed to tune my carb for wheelies
Hello, can you recommend what type of needle should I buy for my PWK carb. I saw that there are a bunch of like JJJ, JJH, JJE etc. Thank you!
Bro your velocity cup. Is awesome. Where canni buy like that?
Google "Stage6 velocity stack", you'll find them at alot of places.
2STROKE STUFFING thanks bro
And then do some tweaks on airscrew or needle maybe?
you're norwegian?? saw the biltema breakcleaner!
Great information, thank you!
My bike runs best with the idle screw in all the way .. what do I need to do
but you didn't mention anything about checking the spark plug
I have a question. What would be the problem with a 2 stroke motor revving max RPM's when you first start it up without even giving it gas? It will max RPM on start up for like a minute until it warms up and goes back down to idle. I've checked and I don't think the slide is sticking or maybe it is? Any ideas what might cause the motor to start off on max RPM's on initial startup?
Probably running lean when cold, is the choke working?
Probably a leak somewhere after the carb where it is sucking in air causing it to lean out en revv high. If things reach temperature the leakage might seals because some rubbers or other parts expand
Hi sir can i ask? I just installed a 28mm pitsbike carb and when i idle my bike it dies can you help me? Btw im a new subscriber ☺️👌
I know this is old vid but i hope U read this question, what's velocity stack U R used?
When I remove the main jet fully. The bike doenst stall but it does stutter alot at wide open throttle. Will I need a thinner needle or not?
You'll be fine with a correctly sized jet I think, sounds like it's overly rich without it.
hey man thanks for your videos !! i need your advice, what is the best size of main jet for dellorto sha 14 12 , 50 cc engine without flap valve and without resonator exhaust (sorry for bad English XD )
Thanks! That's a tough one, depends on alot of factors... Something in the 50-80 range probably.
Thanks for answer 😃😃😃
do you think the ventouri effect (don't know if it is called so) is increased by your stage 6 "adapter"
+zweitaktpower probably not... Got it as a gift, and it looks kinda cool...
it does look cool :D i think about buying one thanks for your answer :)
it's better if you use a air filter because you can use a larger diameter intake for the filter, i have problems where in brasil w/ this carb, because the filter intake is too smal and the bike don't raize de rpm well, so i use this adapter for use a larger diamenter intake... sry for bad english, i'm brazilian... =D
+felipe casonatto Good point!
ty and very good video...
Could you provide a link or a name of the valve? Can't find anything similar anywhere.

@@2STROKESTUFFING Thank you!
What is that gold thing on carb?? And what it is for?
+hopeless driver It's a velocity stack, but this one isn't very good. It was a gift and I think it looks cool.
For my set up it is recomended a 30mm PHBH with main jet 135-145, min jet 58-60, atomizer 266-268, pin X3 throtle valve 40
But if i use a PWK 30mm, what jets do you recomend ?
Thanks for any help
hello i'm kinda new into those things. i have a 300 2stroke which doesn t keep the idle if i don t use the throttle. when i bought it the mechanic told me that the needle (in your video) was supposed to go up before starting the bike and then go down once started. any tips?
I’ve rejected my carb about 4 times now, just adjusting the screws. Quarter minute into riding and the pilot screw from the first carb keeps coming out and bogging the engine. Any way to keep it tight and have it adjusted?
Where can i find that clear float bowl...cause im using same carb as u did
+Mohd Jemadil www.maxiscoot.com/str8-float-bowl-for-carburetor-pwk-21-28-mm-transparent-str-508-34-wh-3.html Lots of places that carry them.
Hi, please can you tell me what's the difference between a 2t and 4t carburetor?
Do you have a video about powerjets? I have a 2 stroke 200cc quad that was modified with an aftermarket 28mm Keihin carb with no power jet and the port soldered shut. I am more than capable of modifying the port, do you think a powerjet is worth it without upgrading the ignition/CDI?
+Charles Gunzelman If your engine already runs good at all throttle openings there won't be much of an advantage with a powerjet alone.
2STROKE STUFFING ok thanks! I just got the machine, still need to tune the idle, install a proper needle clip and pack the exhaust silencer. Would the silencer being wide open affect the tune? It currently has no packing or end cap.
+Charles Gunzelman It will probably affect it some, but not very much. Good luck with your new toy!
