Semi retired trucker/farmer here… preparing to get back on a truck…I enjoy your videos. Glad you educate about the nuances of trucking… you had me on edge with that $8,000 ,(O.W. !)ticket !! I like your attitude,& style . Keep the videos coming … stay safe as you keep on trucking…💕☀️🌎🌙✨🌲🦬🪶
Man I’m glad you got a Pete! I’ve got a 99 379 with the M11 ISX. I’m a dump trucker and own my business. Every penny matters I’m getting around 7-8mpg running local of course it’s a baby motor compared to some motors but I ain’t racing. Love the channel, Godspeed brother
Congrats, a nice looking rig Jax. Good luck with the coaching, those kids have no idea how lucky they are for the life lessons they are about to get from you.
I love how passionate you are about your projects! It’s so exciting to see you dive into the 389 and work on maximizing fuel efficiency. Can’t wait to see what you come up with next!
Ok Coach love that sacrifice you are making for your boys. Here is my favorite short book for young men or anyone to life coach them. Louise Hay “I Can Do It” and if they really like this book then get her book “You Can Heal Your Life”, the best to you all and looking forward to your new chapter!!! Be safe.
Nice truck 👍. Throttle management is key . Used to be one of those people that smashed the gas, grabbing gears like a wild man. After watching some of your content, I've backed way off of my right foot lol. I've been hauling soybeans from field to terminal for a week and I've got this old KW up almost a full mpg according to the onboard. Much smoother and after all, the whole idea is to get the job done and at the end of the day have a machine in good enough shape to do it all over again tomorrow 😅. ✌️
You sir have what they call an addiction and with this addiction there is no cure for it, but I am living vicariously through you with these trucks since the wife is still against me getting one for fun. Until then I’ll just happily settle in and follow you along until you decide to sale me one of the cabovers you’ve got lol.
Another great video. The introduction to the new project rocked. Young man sounds like you have some life changes coming and change is good. The thing I am worried about is Rooster and his body parts being scattered around the ranch, lol. You are spot on about the way a person operates the truck and fuel mileage. I had a truck back in the day (T&A Trucking out of Baker) just like the one you purchased except it was black and turquoise. I never got over 3.5 and it was due to my lead foot hauling cattle and grain. I still like the black truck lol. PEACE.
Back in the early 80's I met a gentleman by the name of Rooster in Colorado Springs who was staying with an Army friends family. We spent the day climbing Pikes Peek just for the hell of it. We came down a few hours late & they had a search party looking for us. Only met the man once. Just weird that there could be two people with that name.
I drove a 579 w/ a cat , 13spd , 355's turning 2250 on the tac avg. 5.7mpg running west out of Mo. Boss gave 100 mo. Bonus for 5.5 and above . 75 & 80 consistently
Great looking truck jax it takes people like you to figure out a combination for fuel consumption on a trucks to find out what works best of luck with that !!!! Good luck with football have fun 👍
When you build your Detroit engine, you should look into the dimpled pistons from Seed of Air. They are supposed to improve your fuel mileage and longevity of your ebgine
You know as much as I do. With the petercars, you have to find the gear and speed that maximize your MPG. I had a 379 with 6nz on flat ground with calfs I got 6.4 mag. With 18 and 336s at 71 mph. Just my experience for u
I’m with you man it’s really about speed and how you drive. I get unbelievably good fuel mileage out of a 379 with a C model mechanical cat with the step deck over the road or with the A-Train maxi on the West Coast I can average 7 miles to the gallon East of the Rockies Six with a maxi, but I really have to work at it. A lot of people think I’m a crazy liar unless they know me and follow me for a while lol. I believe you can do it.
the Detroit makes the difference because i had a 12.7 in a flat top fld with sleeper got 7.5 with it that was driving 72 miles hr most most placing i went but another things i was hauling a tanker
You should get a twin turbo cat. We had a 389 with a cummins and have a 389 glider with a cat and the glider gets better fuel mileage. Our cummins 389 sat in the shop forever lots of sensors and ecu.
Nice rig. I've got a factory spec Detroit in my 96 W900l, and I normally run 90k (short sided grain trailer) at an average 68 mph on local stuff and it will normal run 6.2 mpg per quarter best I've gotten out of it per quarter was 6.6 and the all time best was a tie on 2 flatbed loads that came back at 7.0 mpg those runs were mainly interstate driving I think she likes running at a constant rpm. I know the old gal could do better, too, but I've got a little heavy of a foot, and she's getting due for some injectors, but all in all I can't complain. The W9s are a little more sloped but not enough to matter I think. Can't wait to see what you can do with the 389. It's definitely a good looking ride
You’ll get it it’s all about gearing horsepower and driver. I have a 2018 389 glider with a 3406 cat in 355 gear ratio 11R24.5 tires 46K frame with a drop axle. It looks quite identical with the truck you just got. When you’re holding that heavy, it’s all about comfort, horsepower and control. Did I mention air ride front end and disc brakes all the way around? however if I’m around 80,000 pounds I’m getting 6 miles a gallon running 75 mph
The Cummins guys say those x-15s that are set at 565 will run forever. But the ones that are factory tuned to 605 have issues. I do heavy haul and my 605 hp x-15 almost made it to 300k before it blew the head gasket.
What a beautiful 🤩 truck and how cool another engine transplant project ❤❤❤ Congratulations on the coaching job 😊 Question 🙋♀️ Are we coming along with you to train too 😂
I feel Rosters want to be scattered on the ranch. I would love for my family to haul me off into the woods (after I give up the ghost) and let the animals do their thing. Since I’ve eaten them seems fair to let them getting something back.
I drove through that little town, where the high school is a couple years ago. Do they broadcast online their football games like some larger districts do around the country?
I bet someone down here in California would make a deal for that x15 for their s60 or other ‘non compliant’ engine. A lot of guys are re-powering their older trucks to keep on the road instead of buying new ones
Yessir. When they went to ddec 5 they bumped up to a 14.0 Liter engine block. They also added an EGR system for emissions standards . I think that was for about 4-5 years until they began the dd15 engine
What year is the 389? You have to match the emissions standard that the truck was built with or you could be looking at a big fine from government EPA. Some big fines from the EPA lately fof guys doing deletes and providing delete hardware and software. Be careful! Really like your videos!

I never drove a semi for work but always loved how peterbilts traditional style looks on the road! That's a perfect rig for you Jax!👍

Wisdom can be drawn from the deep well of Rooster! lol He cracks me up because he is so mellow.
Congrats, a nice looking rig Jax. Good luck with the coaching, those kids have no idea how lucky they are for the life lessons they are about to get from you.
Looks like more room and comfort for you and family in the new truck. You’ll never regret spending more time with family ❤

Try talking to Tim Gentry about using dimpled pistons, better power and mileage.
Hello there Mr Jax. Hope you and the family are doing great. ✌️👍🙏🙏
Can't wait to see what you build this into. Let's do it!
10/10 fella good on ya sweet trucks bloody rippa attatude good on ya
Nice truck. You guys were just over the hill from me. Hope the 389 works out for you. I’m also a fan of the Siri 60 Detroit
Change is good Jax and doing so wisely counts for alot .. Diversification and experience ...👍👏👍
That rig is real similar to the NASCAR hauler you drove, Jax!

It is a beauty. I like the flat tops a little better. Still it's a gorgeous truck.

Nice Peterbilt, love the truck just dislike the new headlights but thats just me.
Jax might want to get rid of that gps in the dash they are prone to being garbage lol. Thanks for sharing 🤘🏼
I’ll have to research a replacement. Our nascar one never worked right
@@realwildwildwest I am pretty sure you can put a Garmin in its place or just a aftermarket radio but can’t wait to see good looking ride.

Nice unit Jax 👍🏻🇺🇸
Thanks Jax yes it's going to a great build and some great videos to come
I was just in Salt Lake working UFC with my satellite uplink truck. Would love to bump into you some day.
X15 Good power pull 620+ hp in Aussie
Tim Gentry"Gentry and sons on TH-cam"has a black 389 with a Detroit, he's shown it getting over 7 mpg.
Yeap check out the dimple pistons. Tim swears they work just saying. Later
I unsubscribe from Tim’s channel. Stupid is as stupid does.

That’s good to hear man! I’ll need to dump these 3:36 rears at some point.. this is my first truck with discs all around. I like it .

Are we coming along with you to train too 😂
Haha no videos on it this year, but perhaps next season!
@@realwildwildwest what !!!
You can’t do this to meeeee 🤣 I love ❤️ your transplant videos
Man that’s a cool ride
Tim Gentry has a Peterbilt glider getting good fuel miles
I’m a little late to the show but you can’t go wrong with a truck from the owner I suspect you bought that one from. 👍
Heck yeah
Oh no not the chipper shredder for rooster😁😁😁

back in a Pete! two kinds of truckers, ones who drive Petes and ones that wish they could. lol
This video worked!!
The trucking empire Begins ! or is it a trucking Collection, either way nice truck !
“I want my remains spread across the ranch, but I don’t want to be cremated” whata boss
thats a good looking Pete
It's probably alot heavier than the Coronado
It is much heavier m. However with the big Cummins out and the emissions equipment off I think she’ll be on the lighter side …. I hope
Good looking truck :)
Ohio registered?? Very nice truck.
I already like it!
I drove through that little town, where the high school is a couple years ago. Do they broadcast online their football games like some larger districts do around the country?
There is a website called NFHS that broadcasts all highschool sports from across the nation. However it’s subscription based
Jax, what’s the latest on the podcast? I need the rest of Luke’s story with the girl behind bars. 😂😂
It’s on ice 🧊 🙃 not sure if it will ever get going again .

yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss a pete
I’m looking forward to this build. Great idea ! Does this end up making this truck a glider ?
Yeah in the technical sense it will be a glider 👍🏼
@@realwildwildwestdoes that mean it gets registered under the year of the engine rather than the year of the truck ?
@@slicksiderepairllc2822 no it will remain a 2020. Just don’t have to do emissions or e logs

Will u run a 18 speed or 13 speed transmission?
18
U gonna add drop axle
Love to see the peterbilt, I hope you keep it. How are you able to swap to the 60 series, with that truck not being a glider?
There’s a company that makes the necessary wiring needed to convert it over.
I mean dot/government wise? I didn’t think you could swap to an old engine.

Coaching High School Football gives you more time with your son if it's the same school he goes to.
Did you buy this truck from Heavy D?
Yes it does give me more time at home for sure . Nope came from a private guy in Utah.
Have you looked into the deal CAT is doing and building new “old” engines?
I have heard of that! I wonder if Detroit does the same?
@@realwildwildwest from what I seen on another YT’ers video, can’t remember who, they would even take a Detroit and get you a CAT engine.
