Too bad there wasn't a comparison with the original pixel buds pro in the gym. My experience with the first gen is much better in noisy environments than the one in the video.
i spend the last 4 hours comparing the new Buds Pro 2 with the old one, and i find that's a good improvement! ANC is much better, Transparency i was surprise how good it is, audio quality is more balanced, bass more reacher and voices clearer, and last but not least the fit is very very good, so light and firm in the ear! The price should be 30-50€ less, but this will be in a few months i think...
As far as comfort, how is that while laying on your side with your head on a pillow? The original Pixel Buds Pro are painful, so am looking to upgrade to something more comfortable that I can leave in my ear.
Mine just came in and I won't have time to set them up and really try them until tomorrow, but this seems to be good news. I have a $15 semi-wired set for youtube at the gym because I sweat like a whore in church, but I'm coming from A-series and my biggest demands were the best ANC and transparency I could find for listening to podcasts on the subway. Oh, and it's basically no music here. I rarely listen to anything unless it's a nice day and I can torture you with maximum volume hair metal with the top down on a nice day. Ask me about the time I blew out a speaker listening to Billy Joel's Sometimes A Fantasy, which ironically is also a song about uh, yeah.
I have the pixel buds pro 1st gen and it has been my daily driver for a year now. I got it for free when i pre-ordered my pixel 8 last year. And i love them. I charge the case once every 3 days and i use them extensively. In the office, gym, walking, and it does the job really well. I dont have much complaints about the ANC, there might be better options out there, but i dont mind. It fits well in my ears contrary to popular opinion, and faced an issue only if im doing long periods of cardio, and this is mostly due to sweat in my ears. Unlike me, someone who paid 220€ for the buds might put these under more scrutiny, but if you get on a better deal, i would say they are really worth it.
A few things I've not seen anyone mention: 1. They're a lot more comfortable to wear when lying down. The new ones don't drill into your head as much. 2. They're a lot easier to pick out of the carry case. The old ones can be hard to grip. 3. The new ones should be a lot easier to keep clean. The old ones have this hole for the seal pressure equaliser that collected a bunch of gunk over time.
I use the pixel buds pro 1st gen at the gym for conference calls all the time and people say my audio is perfect, they can't tell I'm at the gym. I don't think these will be worse than the first gen. Let's hope you had a bad pair. 😊
I saw another review that talked about this, which was really bad, but that it was resolved after updating the firmware and that the sound improved after a few hours of use, I hope that is the case here.
I got mine for free with my Pixel 9 Pro pre-order credit. They are supposed to be delivered today, and they are replacing my original PBP. I cant wait to try them out.
test transparency with samsungs and apple's offerings. Also compare the transparency centric features like how can we talk while keeping the buds on. Do we need to hold the earphone or would it detect automatically
Currently waiting on mine to get delivered, should be Friday hopefully. I owned the first buds but returned them within days because they were too big. Looking forward to this smaller form factor
The Mic test while recording a video in a noisy environment was bad. What about the mic test on a call in a noisy environment? I believe that is when the "Bluetooth super wide band" and "clear calling" kicks in.
Way better, less of a hiss than my OG pros. Pass through is also higher quality and less delayed. On the OG pass through was a nice feature when needed but was not better than removing the earpiece. On the pro 2's I actually spent most of my work day with them in because the difference is negligible
Glad you addressed the transparency mode as this is a big one for me. I have the original Pixel buds Pro and my wife has the AirPods pro 2. The transparency on the AirPods pro 2 is just so much better that it's not even comparable. Would love to see a comparison with the pixel buds Pro 2. Might be willing to upgrade if they are on par with the AirPods.
These will be a great upgrade. You should read the droid-life article. Can't wait to receive mine tomorrow. The PBP1 are horrible at staying in my while riding my ebike with a full helmet on. This new stabilizer should be amazing. And google products, in my experience, don't usually ever get worse. Especially not in the last 3 years. There's are a lot of great reviews on TH-cam today talking about the quality of the sound. In my opinion they will be a great upgrade and very excited about receiving them tomorrow. Just giving you a different perspective. Peace to you from NY 🤞🏽🕶️💜
I picked up the originals for £169 just over 2 years ago. They're decent but i do have issues with them that weren't pointed out in a lot of reviews ar the time. Considering these new ones cost £219 for what barely seems like an upgrade is a massive rip off. That mic test in the gym was horrendous. Seems like Google are slapping Gemini on everything for little purpose and charging a premium for it. For the price, you should really expect that especially when Apple are now offering Airpods with ANC for less than these.
Would like to hear how they compare against the Nothing Ear. Reviews speak highly of their ANC, but haven't seen a direct comparison between the two yet
The fact that these still don't have any codecs higher than AAC make these a no-go for me. I had the original Pixel Buds 2 & loved them, but ever since I upgraded to my Sony XM4 earbuds, I've pampered my ears & can't go back to AAC
Mine are pretty good, so good that i returned my airpods pro 2, anc and transparency mode are almost the same as the airpods pro 2, but these pixels are way more comfortable in your ears.
Really appreciated the sound test there Damien. I mean the test of how the audio is from the ear buds. They do sound slightly fuller which is a good thing I suppose. I like the idea that they are smaller than their predecessors. My ears are of the prominent variety so larger buds push against my ears. I don't think they are worth the price though. I may wait till they come down in price, especially as I am not a prominent bud user.
Disagree on your testing the mic at the gym being te worst method, it's EXACTLY the scenario I want to hear. My AirPods Pro 2nd gen and Jabra Elite 8 actives sound the same as this. I have a devil of a time finding vids testing this exact scenario in the gym and I can't find any Bluetooth buds that are anything other than terrible. Glad to know these don't change the picture. I think it's just a Bluetooth problem in general that's yet to be solved bc of how calls are processed. Thank you for how you went about it, great review.
Just recieved mine today, the latency makes them unusable for me can be up to a second some times. When you stop typing sound literally trails along once your thumbs have stopped moving
I've had mine now for 3 days. Honestly I think they are going back. While I like the small profile, they don't feel secure in my ear at all, no matter which tips I use. I don't think that little wing thing does anything in my ear. I could twist it till the cows come home and it's not hooking into my ear. The Bose QC II fit much better and I'm now waiting for the new Bose QC 2-s coming in. I also agree with your comments on sound. Not great. Decent, but not great, Bose hands down has a better sound profile.
Nice review thanks. Do you have a gemini advanced subscription? And do you know if one is required to use Gemini live with the Pixel buds pro 2s? Cheers.
I'm not sure if they're worth it at the current $199 price. I've got them now, and while they're okay, my old cheap buds that are several years old sound 70% as good for less than half the price. I'm not sure if I'll keep them as the fit isn't as comfortable as I'd hoped either.
Do they still scream when you lay on them? I have the last pro buds and returned them because when I would lay on a pillow with them in the feedback was deafening! I use earbuds and noise cancelling to fall asleep so they weren’t it for me. I still have my pixel buds 1st gen, love them! Wish they stuck with that design.
Unfortunately, as a dude with large ears, these things constantly feel like they are about to fall out, tapping them at all does knock them out. Think I will probably return them and stick to my Pro 1's
Hey. Thank you for the comprehensive review. I am really thankful for the gym test. It is a complete fail for me for this sort of product. It is pretty much meant to do 2 things -play music well and enable good calls in any environment. It misses on the sound front and fails miserably on the calls one. I currently use Bose earbuds Ultra and they completely fail on the calls front. But they play excellent quality music. But they also keep disconnecting, fail connecting, completely fail touch controls when doing sports, sweat makes them circle modes of ANC in an endless loop and I am very frustrated with them a lot of times.
The fit on the original buds pro was terrible way too bulky, glad to see they shrunk these and made a better fit. They have the best touch controls out of all the headsets ive used looking forward to picking mine up tomorrow.
I had this issue alot. The problem was the magnet wasn't as strong in the case and without the pixel buds actually having a way to power off they would stay connected to the phone while in the case thus draining the case and battery on the buds while in the case. I hope this is fixed
I suspect some of the issues maybe early software issues?? The hiss raises a concern for me because its what happened to my original pixel buds pro that made them unwearable. I am excited for the size for the pixel buds 2 because i agree the first gen hurt my ears after about an hour.
how is transparency compared to the 2nd gen airpods pro? to my ears airpods are almost absolutely perfect, to the point where i have to really really focus to notice any difference between having them in, and not. but i haven't tried many other earbuds, besides galaxy buds.
How long from getting the buds out of the case and into your ear until the connection is established?.the pro 1 were horrible at that, taking 5-20s for me.
The mic quality is...bad. it seems better but is far from good. I would be interested to see how it works with wind outside? (Using the buds pro 1 on a bicycle, my call was almost inaudible to colleagues)
My two most important criteria for these earbuds are 1; whether they are good to sleep with for us who lie on our side? And number 2; If your bed partner snores, will these earplugs block out that sound? Very nice that these have enough power to last a whole night.
I guess it's the buds themselves. I had the OG Galaxy Buds and the Buds 2 and both of them had connection issues. Both of them would stutter, especially when using anything higher than SBC codec. I got rid of both and promised myself to never buy Samsung headphones again. Oh and it happened on multiple phones, Note 9, iPhone 11 Pro Max, Note 20 Ultra.
@@PvtAnonymous I didn't think the galaxy buds2 pro were that old. I had them free off Samsung with an s24, they worked great on the s24. With the pixel 9 pro xl bad connection issues, sometimes timing is off creating like an echo. Connect drops, Any how I may give these pixel buds pro 2 a try
Well this is disappointing. I didn't know that they would be smaller which is a negative to me cause I like the larger size pad to do gestures. I just really wished that Google would just make it the same as the OG Pro but just add fins. That's all I really want really.
Tired of these software issues. I really like my P7P and Pixel watch but the buds don't really do it for me and these seem like they're charging £50 more than what I paid for the originals for barely an upgrade or in this case, it's a downgrade. How can they ask for £219 and give you worse audio quality?
@mrcraggle The last fold & pixel buds was my 1st time being in the pixel ecosystem but 1 thing I noticed is Google fixed the software issues pretty quickly.
Honestly, I don't know why, but I expected a lot from these Pixel Buds Pro 2 especially in terms of the quality of phone calls in noisy and windy environments, and the more I think about it, the more I wonder why I expected so much from these Pixel Buds Pro 2 🤔, honestly I really don't know why 🤷🏽♂️ In fact, in view of the current market, they are just very average earbuds, but with "G" logo, you are actually paying the Google tax 🤧 Honestly, save your money, and buy earbuds like the Soundcore Liberty 4 NC, Qcy Ht08 Melobuds Pro, Earfun Air Pro 4 / Air NC2, Realme Buds Air 6 Pro OnePlus Buds 3, they cost $50-$80, but are as good or even better than these Pixel Buds Pro 2 on a lot of points. 🙏🏽
I've heard far more positive reviews of these earbuds than this one. He does seem particularly nitpicky and negative. But as I say I've watched the complete opposite reaction to then
You know, I really kind of hate how weight has been equated to quality in our society when there is no real correlation between the two. Especially with something I have in my ears I would rather have reduced weight than more weight.
I'm switching from the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem, since I really wasn't impressed with any of the current phones Samsung has on offer versus the Pixel 9, so I switched to Pixel 9 but now I've lost some Galaxy-only health features of my Galaxy Watch, so I'm going to pick up a pixel watch, so I might as well get a pair of Pixel buds pro 2 while I'm at it.
The pixel watch is actually really nice. It's a very "focused" device so if you have specific niche uses that were met by your Samsung watch, but it has really good health track.
They have very nice features abd fit great but the sound is Mid. Coming from Jabra Headphones, this is a downgrade but ill hold onto them and give them a shot. The sound isn't the best but its also not the worst.
I have the pros, and they don't stay in my ear, so I had to take off the tips in order for them to stay in. I am hoping these will be much better, also the pros according to my gf she can't hear me on them very well either. for 300 Canadian it better be worth it. But, then again my AirPods are also shit too lol
This has more to do with the pins inside the case. This is also an issue with Airpods. I'd recommend to use an alcohol wipe and clean the inside of the case and pixel buds.
"Audio isn't the biggest selling point of these" That's not good when you are reviewing earbuds. All the features are cool but meaningless if sound quality isn't a priority. Guess there's a reason Pixel Buds sales numbers are so low and why their earbuds aren't popular
I agree with everything the reviewer said. I have both, and the Buds 2 are better. However, I strongly disagree with the one plus buds. I was a OnePlus fan boy. But then I had to deal with their service when my ear buds malfunctioned. OnePlus service is a catastrophic dumpster fire! You take a big risk when you buy their products.
@@RobertUrwin I'm going to keep on reiterating it, but 99% of people won't hear the difference between a well encoded AAC stream and one of those supposed "lossless" Bluetooth codecs. Bluetooth just isn't capable of doing lossless as it's a limitation of the bandwidth, and the thing you're attributing to sound quality, is really just the sound signature. In fact some of the best reviewed devices like the Airpods Pro and Max, (specifically the Max being rated higher than the Sony's) don't have any special codecs.
that microphone test in the gym was horrible

@@PvtAnonymous I didn't think the galaxy buds2 pro were that old. I had them free off Samsung with an s24, they worked great on the s24. With the pixel 9 pro xl bad connection issues, sometimes timing is off creating like an echo. Connect drops, Any how I may give these pixel buds pro 2 a try
I have them.. The music sounds worse than the originals. Hopefully this is just a software update issue.
Well this is disappointing. I didn't know that they would be smaller which is a negative to me cause I like the larger size pad to do gestures. I just really wished that Google would just make it the same as the OG Pro but just add fins. That's all I really want really.
@@volcalstone the gestures work great imo. & They feel great in my ears.
So, I cut the "Volume EQ" setting off & the music got dramatically better.. 🤯
They have multipoint?
yes
@@indianajonze Thank You
Finally a charging case with a speaker.
Honestly, I don't know why, but I expected a lot from these Pixel Buds Pro 2 especially in terms of the quality of phone calls in noisy and windy environments, and the more I think about it, the more I wonder why I expected so much from these Pixel Buds Pro 2 🤔, honestly I really don't know why 🤷🏽♂️
In fact, in view of the current market, they are just very average earbuds, but with "G" logo, you are actually paying the Google tax 🤧
Honestly, save your money, and buy earbuds like the Soundcore Liberty 4 NC, Qcy Ht08 Melobuds Pro, Earfun Air Pro 4 / Air NC2, Realme Buds Air 6 Pro OnePlus Buds 3, they cost $50-$80, but are as good or even better than these Pixel Buds Pro 2 on a lot of points.
🙏🏽
I've heard far more positive reviews of these earbuds than this one. He does seem particularly nitpicky and negative. But as I say I've watched the complete opposite reaction to then
@@samirstanton86Strangely, I've seen at least 4-5 videos, and they all go in the same direction as him 🤷🏽♂️
You know, I really kind of hate how weight has been equated to quality in our society when there is no real correlation between the two.
Where I was going with that: this review is helping me make the decision much easier
Like a good Lil consumer
The pixel watch is actually really nice. It's a very "focused" device so if you have specific niche uses that were met by your Samsung watch, but it has really good health track.
Not for me, do better with the call quality. That's what I mainly use for
It sits WAY better than gen 1 imo.
For small ears that is what I need. I just wich they brought the loob to hook above that the 'google pixel bud A' has :/
Why buy expensive earbuds get some decent ones for 50-75$ and take care of them they'll last you a while these expensive ones usually suck
Where to find $50-75 ones with ANC?
They have very nice features abd fit great but the sound is Mid. Coming from Jabra Headphones, this is a downgrade but ill hold onto them and give them a shot. The sound isn't the best but its also not the worst.
I have the pros, and they don't stay in my ear, so I had to take off the tips in order for them to stay in. I am hoping these will be much better, also the pros according to my gf she can't hear me on them very well either. for 300 Canadian it better be worth it. But, then again my AirPods are also shit too lol
My major issue with the PBP1 is them not charging or disconnecting when being put in the case. Do we know if that's fixed?
This has more to do with the pins inside the case. This is also an issue with Airpods. I'd recommend to use an alcohol wipe and clean the inside of the case and pixel buds.
@@danielbonaparte8420 I DON'T recommend that at all as alcohol will ruin the charging for these devices
Tak alcohol pads and clean the buds and in the inside of the case. It gets covered in ear wax and causes this issue!
Compare these to Linkbuds S.
"Audio isn't the biggest selling point of these"
That's not good when you are reviewing earbuds. All the features are cool but meaningless if sound quality isn't a priority. Guess there's a reason Pixel Buds sales numbers are so low and why their earbuds aren't popular
Hoping these will be better for running. The first gen were terrible, always kept falling out of my ears.
Rather get the ‘nothing buds pro’ or Samsung buds pro ‘
Wow that mic quality is not better at all!
Oof the mic is terrible
Edit: if quiet area it's ok
The gym audio makes me want to never try those earbuds in public 😂
What Bluetooth codec do the Pixel Buds Pro 2 support
AAC and SBC, says at 7:06
To bad no support for LDAC or even better LHDC
@@RobertUrwin What bluetooth headphones that aren't over the ear support either of those?
@@RobertUrwin I'm going to keep on reiterating it, but 99% of people won't hear the difference between a well encoded AAC stream and one of those supposed "lossless" Bluetooth codecs. Bluetooth just isn't capable of doing lossless as it's a limitation of the bandwidth, and the thing you're attributing to sound quality, is really just the sound signature.
In fact some of the best reviewed devices like the Airpods Pro and Max, (specifically the Max being rated higher than the Sony's) don't have any special codecs.
@@brandonw1604Almost all earbuds on the market 🤷🏽♂️
Damn that’s unfortunate I got these to replace my nothing ear /: my end up returning them
Don't they are great, got mine today ! This review is meh
@JAY88AI do you have the recent Nothing Ear (3)?
