Not a fan of ridge wallet having owned in the past. It's a good gift card/barely used card holder you keep in your desk, but as a main wallet it's suboptimal at best
Agreed, all wired mics are better. But for their ability to instantaneously send our voices through the air to our phones at any quality is pretty cool. And as a parent to real young ones, the ability to pop one earbud in on the fly while holding a sleepy toddler is so worth the cost of mic quality. 😂
@@Bash_McLane yeah it's all situational. if i'd like to prioritize sound or mic quality, i go wired. if i think a cord might be an impediment, i'll go with my airpods. so much nicer just having and using both when appropriate rather than treating either as the end-all, be-all.
Seriously, You are blowing it out of the water!! This is an amazing review and I just love your wisdom and fun you have. Thank you for sharing your experience and your world! Love watching.
Every time a comparison is done, it’s amazing how good the wired earbuds are. Mic placement is everything, there’s no getting around the fact that having the mic right in front of your face will be better than in your ears. I prefer wireless. I don’t have a pair of wired earbuds anymore. But, facts are facts!
9:42 "get earbuds that fit" sounds simple but one thousand percent this!! I've fought fit and it just never gets better does it. Your suggestion to return if they don't feel right in the first day is right on! Good stuff.
Great video! Always had these points about gemini on my mind but you're the first person who I've heard saying it in clear terms! Not sure whether I should renew my expensive subscription to gemini advanced. It's fun, but expensive! Just got the pixel buds pro 2 yesterday. Fit is amazing, anc is great too (almost on par with my bose qc2s) and transparency is great with low occlusion (frankly even the bose qc2s have decent transparency). Love your informal & informative style of reviewing.
Great review. The wired Apple buds killing it with the mic test again. lol. I've had the Pixel Buds Pro 2 for a bit now and they're definitely nicer than the last generation. They do fit better - the first in-ear buds that don't actually bother me, actually, and with the default tips. Sound quality and ANC are good enough for me. I still like the Samsung Buds Live (the beans) a bit better still, I think, but it is a close one.
I think most people would be willing to give up privacy for situational awareness. The tech community and people who are very online are much more concerned than normies like my family members who don’t even know there are privacy settings in iOS.
@ agree. In the past, the benefits of trading away your privacy were less clear, but if your AI assistant can tell you to hurry up on your walk to the train station because the train is arriving soon, or remember to pick up spinach at the grocery store because you googled that recipe earlier in the day, or to make a dinner reservation for your anniversary at that restaurant your wife said she really wanted to go to in an email thread from several months ago, then it will be worth it to many people. Privacy can sometimes be a commodity. People will give you theirs if they get enough in return for it.
@padhatam i highly believe the promise of using small llm model on device along with the big one on cloud can easily do that stuff without breaking the privacy condition. Your local llm could be situational aware and just send complex queries to cloud without exposing your all email history and message between your spouse and also your location. While complex queries can be offloaded go Gemini
I managed to get the PBP2 as part of deal with the Pixel 9 Pro XL. I will say that they are significantly better than the originals. As much as I wanted to like them, they just weren't very comfortable, no matter what I tried and I believe that has a significant effect on the sound quality. I now wear the Buds Pro 2 almost constantly throughout the day and I can wear them for hours at a time with little to no fatigue. That wasn't the case with the originals where I constantly felt like they weren't sitting in my ears correctly. The audio pass through is also significantly improved where I can have conversations easily while leaving them in.
I simply love how Becca reviews gadgets when she is an expert in the matter and tells us every little detail; instead of just reviewing the same script right after the tool is recently out. Keep up the good job! PS: You got my vote on the Creator's awards!
Very fair review. My last gen PBPs have solid mics & good audio, but fit is frustrating. Getting my PBP2s from Amazon tomorrow on a sneaky -$50 BF sale. (I _rarely_ use Gemini)
Not gonna lie, they're expensive. But I like em. The problem is when I buy cheap headphones they sound like crap and don't last. These Pixel Buds Pro 2 sound legit. they're light and fit in my ear perfectly.
If only we had a way to get even better sound quality, better mic quality, and battery life that matches the device you’re using. Heck, I’d even be willing to compromise losing Bluetooth and having some sort of, cable… Love the vid Becca, appreciate you too
0:10 uh hold up... "beckon and call" is not the expression. its "beck and call" the origin of the expression is indeed "beckon and call", but thats not the modern phrasing. Its BECK and call.
We were on a road trip earlier this summer and Gemini could have been useful for stuff like "what do you know about this bridge I am crossing right now" but without Gemini knowing our location (probably it is not allowed yet for security concerns) this does not work. So you have to know the name of the bridge (or taking a photo) and then asking more about it.
right?! I want to break out my Ray-Ban Meta glasses again and do the same sort of NYC exploring. The camera on those allows the AI assistant to see what you want to know more about, and throughout this testing, I just kept wishing I was wearing them. I also could have done the same with Google Lens, but that would require directly interfacing with a screen.
We have our first earbuds mic test on this channel! Always love to see the wired Apple earpods crushing the wireless competition (even outdoors this time)
Pixel Buds Pro were so incompatible with the shape of my ear, I'm reluctant to order these. Apple Airpods Pro 2 and Anker Liberty 4 NC (or whatever they're called) just fit so much more comfortably.
Same but Buds Pro 2 are completely different. I hated Pro 1, they just did not fit me. I used Airpods Pro 1 with Android for years. But these are so comfy and invisible to me that I was finally able to get more compatible headphones for my Pixel phone.
You know, I was really looking forward to this review! Thanks for your honest feedback and the mic test. I think I'll take advantage of the Black Friday discount to buy these 😁
Wireless mic technology is instant vocal teleportation to anywhere in the world! We dont think of it that way, but its incredible that it works at all. The quality is worse for sure because of the circumstances, but we definitely take how cool it is for granted.
Nice review......the pixel bud pro 2's are way better yhan the original ones, especially the fit. I hated the originals on their fit. As an avid music /earbud person, I have several pair of buds that I should have taken back immediately after buying them, bc of the fit/weight of them. Keep up the good work.....
Google Assistant used to be far more intuitive and helpful like you're talking about. I remember with my Moto X (Classic) how much of that simple stuff was just done. "Oh, you usually go to work this time. There's some traffic on your route. You might want to leave 5 minutes early." There were so many little features like this that just "were." You didn't have to set them up as much as they were integrated seamlessly into the device. Were you in your car driving? It would detect this and go into hands free driving mode. I find that is very hit or miss with modern Pixel phones and Google Assistant. The old phone's version of assistant used to do a lot offline, not needing to connect to the network, or cloud. I even remember intuitive things like around calendar items, as far as even notifications about weather that might impact you. There wasn't so much random news being fed into your phone, it was more curated, related to what you really needed or wanted to know. I've always used Google-designed phones since the Moto X, and the initial way Google Assistant and features worked was so much better than with modern incarnations. I can't understand how they've gone backward so much, comparatively.
Hey Becca, Great video as usual. I have one major no go with all wireless air buds. I will never pay $120. plus for a product you throw away after 2- 3 years because the battery died. To all think different not the Apple way. Make decent wireless earbud with replaceable batteries.
FYI, the EQ settings you found on Reddit are for Pixel Buds Pro not Pixel Buds Pro 2. The wired buds' mic quality is much better, hope someday the wireless buds can catch up
I have these and from a running perspective not sure they are it. For other reasons yes, but not as an active user with ANC on. Every step while running has the ANC popping. This is verified in some Reddit threads but sad that different ear tips hasn't solved this one. Haven't seen reviewers use it on runs.
The multipoint issues are disappointing. I use a variety of devices including windows laptops for work, mac at home and android mobile. And its crazy how bad some devices are at multipoint in 2024. Really hope this gets improved in years to come and adds more than 2 devices it can connect with at the same time. I'd love it to connect to 4 devices seamlessly. Also thank you for the mic tests. I use buds for work calls and its shocking how bad some mics still are. And how bad they are at filtering bacgrounbd noise out when you not connected to a pixel.
Can I get some details on translation features they're advertising? That's important for me to help me better understand my Korean in-laws. I'm sad to say it's maybe not that perfect yet.
I really like my Buds Pro 2s. All versions of the buds fit and stay in my ear much better than the air pods and in the mic tests, the Pros sounded better than the air pods, at least to me.
The best implementation of AI I'd like would be from the Horizon games, where they just seemingly know everything and can adapt to you, instead of having to adapt to it
It's probably best to buy these if you already have a Pixel device. They are decent earbuds but there are some features gatekept for Pixels only. (Spatial audio for example) Only reason I'd get theseif you don't have a Pixel is also the biggest selling point of the Buds Pro 2, their transparency mode. It's probably the closest we have to hearing our surroundings when compared to open ear headphones. It's seriously that impressive. That and the battery life is pretty nice. (Not so much when compared to other 3rd party buds but among others like Samsung or Apple) Otherwise if that's not important, I'd go with another set of Buds from Sony, Anker or something.
Love your videos! I took mine to the gym and noticed an annoying clicking sound in the left bud. After a while, I turned off the noise cancellation, and that solved the problem. The clicking/popping sound mostly happened when I was doing a set or moving my head. I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this issue?
Does it happen when there are loud sounds, like other people dropping weights? If so, this is a common problem with ANC, though some buds are worse than others. When attempting to counter a loud, unpredictable sound, earbuds will often produce a loud pop in your ears. It happens to me when I'm rock climbing and clip a carabiner.
Great review as always, Becca. :) To be honest, the thing I find frustrating about Gemini is how *safe* Google's playing it. If you ask it a question about which e-reader is best, it'll give you opinions based on some analysis someone did. But ask it a question about the 2024 election -- even one that has a factual answer and no subjectivity -- and it won't answer the question.
I sometimes think I lived in some alternate reality where Google Now (like the OLD google now dashboard you'd see when you would swipe left) didn't do a lot of the very things you wish Gemini would. Like (living in DC) I distinctly remember it correctly surfacing the next train as a card to get to work which i had identified in google maps. I remember it surfacing tickets from my email I had bought the evening of on the way to a venue. I remember it just surfacing useful information!! Then it all went away and all I get are bad articles about things I don't care about and Gemini refusing to tell me anything useful all for the cost of all of our electricity and fresh water.
I didn't make this up! MKBHD has a video going over it in detail from 11 years ago !!! th-cam.com/video/PAs6yQUCkno/w-d-xo.html how is Gemini *LESS* functional now!?
