    One thing I love that came with the December update is the poorly termed 'Passthrough Charging' mode. This is where your can power the phone via cable or wirelessly without charging the battery. This minimises battery charge cycles and allows you to play games for hours without the phone getting hot due to charging. It's brilliant in the car with Android Auto or while using maps while driving.

      @@stevelewis8394 yeah, that's what happens if you enable the charge to 80% feature in the battery settings. As you say, it's poorly labeled, but they are promoting it as being useful for battery longevity, the pass-through is just a very nice side effect of that. Read an article about it a few weeks ago , but I'm sure there are plenty that do not realize that's what's going on and can use it for the situations you mentioned.

    I'm a confirmed Apple fanboy; iPad, iPhone, Macs, I was deep in the walled garden believing all was well, however I now no longer have an iPhone, it's been refreshing to say the least. I've been hugely impressed by the new PIxel 9 Pro, the switch hasn't been too taxing, it's taken a little effort, but very worth it. I found the key was having apps that are cross platform and that they sync across them all, too, I haven't lost any data and everything still works. The best bit has been the consistency of gestures, and the possibility of customisation, something I was finding increasingly frustrating on iOS. Also for the longest time I was convinced the apple implementation of notifications was the best (although seeing the message pop up on the always on display would be good, so that I can see on my desk whether I need to do something about it right away), but the swipe down to go through my notifications has literally been a game changer, I find I miss so much less during my work day now. My Android experience has been excellent for the most part, maybe this is me finally choosing an operating system on it's merits, rather than on dogma.

    Hi Jordan, I really appreciate your detailed reviews, but I noticed you didn't dive into the Pixel 9's front-facing camera video performance in low light. The issue exists already for ages, but seeing Google neglecting this aspect is just not okay... Even though I really love Pixels in general and especially the 9 series, the noise on videos is so bad that it almost looks like it’s raining in the frame - not what you'd expect from a flagship phone. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Other camera modules also suffer from significant noise issues in videos, which indicates that the problem is global.
    As a tech journalist, I think it's very important to highlight these problems. If reviewers stay silent, Google won't feel the pressure to fix such a glaring issue, especially at Pixel 9 lineup premium price point. It’s important for users and for holding brands accountable.

      @@B34ST-SL4Y3R I find your response is what we see most common. Our folks bought a really cheap Walmart Android phone 10 years ago and use that as a basis as to why iOS is better. Android has come a LONG way in the last decade and more people are switching from iOS than ever before. I find it's UI to be "less than common sense". Even using gestures or where buttons and menus should be seem backwards to me. I had a Macbook about 12 years ago for work and tried REALLY hard to like it, but I just couldn't. I have an iPad for aviation purposes (damn ForeFlight is only developed on iOS) but otherwise you couldn't pay me to switch to an iPhone. Using my son's iPhone that his mother bought him is like going back a decade and I struggle with it nearly everytime but he can use my phone with ease.

      @hahja40 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@AkerfeldtTveitan-yi4xm I believe people think that android is still that old bad, slow and laggy OS. That's not true anymore. Android has come a long way to a point it's now super refined and highly granular in terms of customization. With Pixel's stock android experience it's top notch and worth every dollar. Samsung is also doing great in terms of hardware and every new update feels like a big upgrade not just minor tweaks that people see in iOS. Android developers listen to consumers and make changes while apple doesn't.

    Its a great phone. Been using it for a month now and the experience has been great so far. It's just the few little features that have been missed that one can nitpick on. For me personally, it's been the double tap to turn off the screen, the ability to set custom vibration patterns for specific app notifications (changing WhatsApp's in-app settings doesn't change the vibration length to short, seems like a bug), and the camera lens switch while recording a video is pretty evident if you zoom in. If they fix/add these features, it would make this phone unbeatable.

    I just picked up a Pixel 9 pro XL and a lot of my feelings Echo what you said in the video. But...
    I'm coming from a Motorola device and I've been using Motorola for over 10 years. The one thing I do miss from Motorola devices is the chop-chop to turn on the flashlight and the twist to turn on the camera. Yes, I know I can download an app or use the quick tap option but neither option has been as reliable and seamless as Motorola's implementation.

    • @MrFrisfruit
      @MrFrisfruit 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      You can set a double-tap (on the back) to activate the flashlight, and enable "Quick camera" to open the camera with two presses on the power button. Took a bit of getting used to, but works great imo.
      Fun extra: if you have your assistent set up, you can say "Lumos" to your phone to enable the flashlight. Fun little feature for Harry Potter nerds such as myself. Long press power button to open the assistent and then it's just one magical phrase to turn it on. Brings a smile on my face more often than I'd like to admit lol.

    Personal recommendation - add color boost option in the cameras, in few cases its very muted. Mostly, the portrait shots need to be improved.

    What sucks about it... Unnatural color after images have been processed even though they looked good in the viewfiender/screen before taking the shot. Even if you set white balance the post process overrides this. Video boost to 8K doesn't work as it should if you don't allow automatic backups. You can manually boost each video but as the app states but you'll never receive a notification when it's done and the boosted version of the video never gets downloaded. Instead, when you play the seemingly boosted 8K video it instead has even worse quality than the 1080p preview one. You also can't turn off HDR+ for photos taken. So it's forced upon you no matter what you do. The pixel line up is a scam.

    The Pixel 9 Pro is by far my favorite phone all-time and the first flagship I have purchased since the Nexus 6 as this is the first phone in several years that didn't require me to make several compromises. The build, glass on both sides, flat screen, flat sides... perfection! 2D glass, curved frames and curved backs might seem like a good idea but in reality they just make it harder to use your phone. Glass screen protectors don't fit well, you have less to grip on to and the phone is more slippery. My only gripe about the P9P build is the polished frame. It is both more slippery and scratches on it will look much worse. They need to go matte frame on all models. Also, the phones are too expensive, ESPECIALLY in Europe. Thankfully I was able to get mine for about €750. I would be willing to pay well over $1000 if I could a Pixel 9 base model sized tri-fold like the Mate XT, but it took the industry like 5 years to go back small so I'm not gonna hold my breath.

    Maybe, but one thing that is frustrating is the fact that not all the features of P9P are available around the world. So that is a thing to consider before buying. For some of us is better to have a Galaxy phone than a Pixel phone just because of the features that are limited via software.

    my pixel 9 experience has been mostly good. battery life seems improved. cell reception and call quality is also solid, but cellular data is a little meh. a little buggy here and there (i find myself needing to restart or close out apps to get performance to work right, my keyboard sometimes just refuses to pop up, on screen buttons sometimes just refuses to press). overall i'd give it 7/10

Staying away from pixel forever. Recorded Video in 4K 60 and it was like 4K 30 no updates for apps or system updates fixed these problems, it's a huge huge Google tensor chip problem they won't fix.
