One thing I love that came with the December update is the poorly termed 'Passthrough Charging' mode. This is where your can power the phone via cable or wirelessly without charging the battery. This minimises battery charge cycles and allows you to play games for hours without the phone getting hot due to charging. It's brilliant in the car with Android Auto or while using maps while driving.
@@stevelewis8394 yeah, that's what happens if you enable the charge to 80% feature in the battery settings. all the updates to gemini are great and all, but I wish they cared enough about properly porting the old assistant's read aloud webpages feature. the replacement built into chrome doesn't work half the time and what if you don't want to use chrome as your default browser? the old assistant's feature would reopen the page in a chromium webview regardless of which browser you started it from and even supported background audio. probably my most used pixel feature and I can't use gemini until they properly port it over.
This should have been mentioned in the review because I tried to use Gemini to read a website out loud and it couldnt... even though assistant has that feature. Hope that gets fixed
Curious how small of an update Android 16 will be if it's launching early next year. Can't imagine that they're going to add much really new considering how incremental it was this year.
I just bought the 9 Pro and just now found out that you have gemini advanced for only a year and then its $19/mo. A comparison of what is the functionalitydifference of the basic vs advanced Gemini. Great video, thanks.

I'm glad that we got a matte back glass on the Pros, but I'd like to see matte side rails on newer Pixels. I'd also like to see a better Face unlock that works in low light, just like the Pixel 4XL did. I think Google should revisit Soli on their Pro Pixels. Finally, Google should please reduce the weight of this thing. It's heavy!!! I don't need to get carpal tunnel just because I have a 9 Pro XL.
I have to say. Best pixel experience ever (after the pixel 5 which I love that phone). The pixel 9 pro xl is a A+ phone. Excellent battery. Camera. Everything. Love my phone.
All fantastic but with last android version notification reply feature is broken. Notification interactions in general are kinda messed up since last updates, especially if you doing something like watching a video or anything else :S
I don't doubt your experience with the lack of overheating, but it looks like you live in a very cool environment. I'm skeptical of the same kind of performance in Texas where I live. My pixel 8 pro overheats like crazy when I'm outside. My S24 Ulta does not.
Its a great phone. Been using it for a month now and the experience has been great so far. It's just the few little features that have been missed that one can nitpick on. For me personally, it's been the double tap to turn off the screen, the ability to set custom vibration patterns for specific app notifications (changing WhatsApp's in-app settings doesn't change the vibration length to short, seems like a bug), and the camera lens switch while recording a video is pretty evident if you zoom in. If they fix/add these features, it would make this phone unbeatable.
I think that the "maturity era" pixel started with the pixel 6, but it kind of stagnated through the 7 and 8. But now it's definitely taken a good leap again

I just picked up a Pixel 9 pro XL and a lot of my feelings Echo what you said in the video. But... I'm coming from a Motorola device and I've been using Motorola for over 10 years. The one thing I do miss from Motorola devices is the chop-chop to turn on the flashlight and the twist to turn on the camera. Yes, I know I can download an app or use the quick tap option but neither option has been as reliable and seamless as Motorola's implementation.
You can set a double-tap (on the back) to activate the flashlight, and enable "Quick camera" to open the camera with two presses on the power button. Took a bit of getting used to, but works great imo. Fun extra: if you have your assistent set up, you can say "Lumos" to your phone to enable the flashlight. Fun little feature for Harry Potter nerds such as myself. Long press power button to open the assistent and then it's just one magical phrase to turn it on. Brings a smile on my face more often than I'd like to admit lol.
I'm a Pixel 8 user; Pixel 9 has improved in some areas but still has many issues to solve. Needs to have UFS 4.0, better processor, better thermal management, faster charging speeds, .. Personal recommendation - add color boost option in the cameras, in few cases its very muted. Mostly, the portrait shots need to be improved.
I am a pixel 6 user and I am waiting if the future pixel phones can be as good as competitors in gaming and heavy tasks if it happens I'll upgrade to that ❤❤
Switching from iPhone, I initially missed seeing the battery percentage of my Bluetooth headphones. It was a minor annoyance, but Google should definitely allow this for all Bluetooth headphones, not just Pixel-branded ones.
Mines been getting slower and glitchier, had it since right after launch. I was in love was it until the last month. Now not so sure. Ive had to restart it almost daily due to bugs like the keyboard not coming up anymore.
What sucks about it... Unnatural color after images have been processed even though they looked good in the viewfiender/screen before taking the shot. Even if you set white balance the post process overrides this. Video boost to 8K doesn't work as it should if you don't allow automatic backups. You can manually boost each video but as the app states but you'll never receive a notification when it's done and the boosted version of the video never gets downloaded. Instead, when you play the seemingly boosted 8K video it instead has even worse quality than the 1080p preview one. You also can't turn off HDR+ for photos taken. So it's forced upon you no matter what you do. The pixel line up is a scam.
The Pixel 9 Pro is by far my favorite phone all-time and the first flagship I have purchased since the Nexus 6 as this is the first phone in several years that didn't require me to make several compromises. The build, glass on both sides, flat screen, flat sides... perfection! 2D glass, curved frames and curved backs might seem like a good idea but in reality they just make it harder to use your phone. Glass screen protectors don't fit well, you have less to grip on to and the phone is more slippery. My only gripe about the P9P build is the polished frame. It is both more slippery and scratches on it will look much worse. They need to go matte frame on all models. Also, the phones are too expensive, ESPECIALLY in Europe. Thankfully I was able to get mine for about €750. I would be willing to pay well over $1000 if I could a Pixel 9 base model sized tri-fold like the Mate XT, but it took the industry like 5 years to go back small so I'm not gonna hold my breath.
Maybe, but one thing that is frustrating is the fact that not all the features of P9P are available around the world. So that is a thing to consider before buying. For some of us is better to have a Galaxy phone than a Pixel phone just because of the features that are limited via software.
my pixel 9 experience has been mostly good. battery life seems improved. cell reception and call quality is also solid, but cellular data is a little meh. a little buggy here and there (i find myself needing to restart or close out apps to get performance to work right, my keyboard sometimes just refuses to pop up, on screen buttons sometimes just refuses to press). overall i'd give it 7/10
The only thing keeping me from buying a Pixel is worldwide availability. Here in Brazil you can only get it via importing, which makes the price much higher than a S24 Ultra in some cases, that you can get officially from Samsung here.
Google is going to have to fix the idiosyncrasy issue with a text when people are using the HDR format and videos. It's mostly only noticeable on tiktok and Instagram. Some videos get so bright you can't even read the text descriptions at the bottom of the videos. This doesn't happen on my s23 Ultra.
I love using the pixel phones for many years now. But what annoys me more than ever is that they are selling features which just don't work for every language. No problem if they arrive a bit later but we don't get any information when or even IF the AI features and apps are being rolled out, for example here in Germany. I mean, I still have to pay full price, right? (I know Apple is doing the same with Apple Intelligence, but that doesn't make it any better).
Is the front camera in exact same position on both Pixel 9 phones? Asking for screen protector purposes. Some transparent film ones say compatible with the 9, but not the 9 Pro. I'm confused as to why, since both screen sizes are listed as 6.32". My only thought is maybe the front cameras are slightly off. Little help?
Don't listen to these TH-camrs just sent back the pixel 9 pro XL to Google because it has camera bugs focus problems chip problems over heating and stutters in 120hz same problems since the pixel 7 pro that have never been fixed. Staying away from pixel forever. Recorded Video in 4K 60 and it was like 4K 30 no updates for apps or system updates fixed these problems, it's a huge huge Google tensor chip problem they won't fix.
I just wrote the same thing, I have a Pixel 7 pro worst phone I've ever had, apparently a lot of my issues are still present here, I'm not trusting Google again, I just replaced the battery on mine after the battery expanded and the long list of problems
You’ll find different experiences if you look for it, I guess. Here’s my issue: if what you’re saying is true I can’t trust the pixel because of tensor. In my country Samsung is using exynos, leaving only the ultra as an option (hate the form factor). iPhone is heavily overpriced. What to do lol
@Thomlabe I Switched to the OnePlus 12 512GB 16GB ram option faster then the S24 Ultra I owned and less then pixel & seems to be 3x the phone the pixel is and cheaper, OnePlus is finally back to Flagship Specs @ lower price! :) , I do however plan on Pre Ordering The S25 Ultra & give that a shot.
@Thomlabe Maybe see about buying a Global S24 Ultra if you prefer those roots, but yes the Tensor chip has bad problems on every single pixel iv had since the 7, the average user wouldn't notice but I did. No need for a $1800 phone CAD to be lagging shuttering freezing .
When using speaker phone on my Pixel 9 Pro, the audio seems to shift depending on the angle i hold the phone at. Had this on the Pixel 8 too. Is it a defect?! Ive never heard a review mention this odd behaviour.
All Google needs to do is add small tweaks to system level. Customization have all apps themed properly through material. You and just keep plugging away. They're on the right path
Honestly, guys, the volume on some of your videos is way too low. Please fix this. How am I struggling to listen to you at max volume on my laptop, even though my speakers are really good? Great video regardless.

me too
Yup, did the same. Bought 2 galaxy 9 phones from FB for $100 each. Used them to trade in for two P9P XL phones. Don’t know why people ever pay over $1k for a phone when promos come along all the time.
Such a rich video sequence is something that has been missing from this channel! Great!
all the updates to gemini are great and all, but I wish they cared enough about properly porting the old assistant's read aloud webpages feature. the replacement built into chrome doesn't work half the time and what if you don't want to use chrome as your default browser? the old assistant's feature would reopen the page in a chromium webview regardless of which browser you started it from and even supported background audio. probably my most used pixel feature and I can't use gemini until they properly port it over.
This should have been mentioned in the review because I tried to use Gemini to read a website out loud and it couldnt... even though assistant has that feature.
Hope that gets fixed
Finally upgraded from my 5 year old OnePlus 7 pro to a rose quartz pixel 9 pro. Love it every day!
I'm waiting on mine in the mail. I'm upgrading from the One Plus 6T. How did you find the change from the one plus to the pixel?
@Erica-fm7sl I find that the pixel software is way more stable and predictable than the oos12 I had on my op7 pro.
Made the switch after years of having iphones. Not looking back, love everything about this phone.
Curious how small of an update Android 16 will be if it's launching early next year. Can't imagine that they're going to add much really new considering how incremental it was this year.
They are going all-in on AI and leaving OEMs to improve Android.
Mine's had issues with Gemini being to strict. It freaks out with as something as simple as changing recopies to a smaller serving size.
I hope they keep the design while improving the internals, specifically the CPU and UFS 4.0
The rest I'm so happy what it is.
Pixel 9 series seems so good... If the Pixel 10 isnt thaaaat much better i will def pick up a 9 Pro XL on the cheap
same here, currently on the regular 7
Just got my pixel 9 pro XL yesterday. Absolutely loving it so far. Great video
I just bought the 9 Pro and just now found out that you have gemini advanced for only a year and then its $19/mo. A comparison of what is the functionalitydifference of the basic vs advanced Gemini. Great video, thanks.
11:39 Yes and No. I love some aspects of the new hardware design. I'm not a fan of the big camera bulge on my 9 Pro XL, and I don't like the shiny side rails.
And surprisingly I have only seen very few people carry this phone.
@@malekinception Still see loads of 6s and 7s and hardly any later Pixels.
We are still waiting for Pixel Studio and Screenshots in Europe.....
You can install the apk files for those and they work fine
I got Screenshots here in Italy
Got those in the UK
@@Amine3It is installed, I have it in the app list but it won't launch
@@pechi22 Did you set the device language to English or does it work in Italian right away after installing the APK?
The lag on google maps though
what lag?
Has never lagged on any of my pixels, including the pixel 6
He's referring to 04:47
@@wahajnaeem1821 if you look very closely the battery is at 17% and it's probably on battery saver. mine is super smooth on any app
🤫
Its a great phone. Been using it for a month now and the experience has been great so far. It's just the few little features that have been missed that one can nitpick on. For me personally, it's been the double tap to turn off the screen, the ability to set custom vibration patterns for specific app notifications (changing WhatsApp's in-app settings doesn't change the vibration length to short, seems like a bug), and the camera lens switch while recording a video is pretty evident if you zoom in. If they fix/add these features, it would make this phone unbeatable.
Bought one yesterday
I think that the "maturity era" pixel started with the pixel 6, but it kind of stagnated through the 7 and 8. But now it's definitely taken a good leap again
Watching on S24 Ultra, screen is no match 🔥🎉
Most software resources aren't available in Europe.
A racehorse without legs.
The latest camera updates have ruined night photos.
A smartphone that is too expensive for what it offers to those living outside the US.
Not true
Pixels have tons of features in the UK, I don't feel like anything's missing.
@ErdnußRiegel6969 Do you live in Europe?
I don't have:
Call screening
Pixel Studio
Pixel Screenshots
Call Notes
Custom weather reports
Yata yata yata.
I have a horse with no legs to run, when same horse in US have.
@Ignozi Just because in UK you have it doesn't mean all of us have
I'm not in UK, I'm in Portugal and I don't have most of this new features.
Simple a horse with no legs.
@@PModestosempre tem pessoas egoistas. Tudo mundo sabe que as funcionalidades do Pixel chegam primeiramente em inglês e longo depois em outros idiomas.
A lot of thoses features are not available in French.
With Samsung, everybody have the features the same day.
The iPhone lives in the minds of this channel’s subscribers, rent free lol.
I'm still using pixel 8a 10/10 grate phone 😀
4:47 seems like you‘re in Lag City 😅
Lmao
Capitol of Lagistan 😂
Pro lag
Haha just what look in video but in real world use no lag bro. 😂😂
I like how it was failed to mentioned that it was laggy using maps.
Front camera in low light is horrible, speakers are just ok, still have camera lens lag when switching between lenses.
I've had my new Pixel 9 pro xl for 1 week and so far it rocks.
Hello guys, any idea what feature will stop working after the one AI subscription ends? Thank you
What about Portrait Mode & no announcement call recording?
I'm a Pixel 8 user; Pixel 9 has improved in some areas but still has many issues to solve. Needs to have UFS 4.0, better processor, better thermal management, faster charging speeds, ..
Personal recommendation - add color boost option in the cameras, in few cases its very muted. Mostly, the portrait shots need to be improved.
Maybe with the pixel 10 and TSMC made processor not this Samsung exynos trash
The only concern is I am paying flagship money for a mid range processor, and how will that Tensor G4 perform for the next and next year
I am a pixel 6 user and I am waiting if the future pixel phones can be as good as competitors in gaming and heavy tasks if it happens I'll upgrade to that ❤❤
I'll just wait for the Pixel 10
Did the build get better with the update?
As I have a pixel 7 pro im waiting until they release the 10 pro xl because it's probably going to using TSMC as the chip manufacturer.
Thanks dudes for the content in 2024
Switching from iPhone, I initially missed seeing the battery percentage of my Bluetooth headphones. It was a minor annoyance, but Google should definitely allow this for all Bluetooth headphones, not just Pixel-branded ones.
I can see mine in the Bluetooth menu
Mines been getting slower and glitchier, had it since right after launch. I was in love was it until the last month. Now not so sure. Ive had to restart it almost daily due to bugs like the keyboard not coming up anymore.
I hope Google makes the 10 XL series with a 21:9 aspect ratio so it could be holded better with one hand.
Sad that Google hasn’t implemented any sort of color tone features yet like true tone
True tone ( on iPhone) isn't that great. I turn mine off
This is a Great Android Tech Channel.Love it❤
Hope they update the Pixel Tablet soon to match/complement/extend the capabilities and aesthetics of the Pixel 9 series!
Google has cancelled the Pixel Tablet due to poor sales.
I just wish Google would consider selling them officially in Brazil.
I get 6 to 8 or screen on time with 15 to 30% left in the tank..I'm a heavy user, I have the moto thinkphone
I'm still fine with my 7 Pro
Whats the game he is playing at 6:48?
Star Wars: Knights of the old republic, a timeless classic
8:56 comeon its lagging … atleast speak truth about tensor
I do like the Add Me function even if I don't use it often
I know this is not the phone we're talking about, but the Pixel 9 pro fold is my all time fav phone 💯
Great Video, Google has come along way.I also like the direction they are going. Thanks so much.💯✌️
People need to know! Get the 9 Pro during discount season or wait for the 10?
I love my Pixel 9 Pro. Love the size.
Brought original pixel fold for $580 and its so user friendly, it made me switch from fold 6 but the battery life made me run back to z fold 6 lol
What about the pixel 8 pro ?
I have this phone and I love it. It's sad that it became yesterday's news so quickly though.
I think its still a good phone modem issues aside
Pixel 8 pro user and I enjoy it does everything I want outside of having a faster finger print reader .
I think the small but noticeable design changes every year is what makes the pixel appealing to buy, compared to samsung and apple
What's your wallpaper 👀
Hello, where i can buy the wood skin for the MacBook as I see in the video? Thanks
dbrand
How can I turn on the screenshot app? I have P9P and I have only the plain function atm. If I try to search for a text, I get constantly 0 hits -.-
When using speaker phone on my Pixel 9 Pro, the audio seems to shift depending on the angle i hold the phone at. Had this on the Pixel 8 too. Is it a defect?! Ive never heard a review mention this odd behaviour.
Surround sound 😂
@bonedatt 😆😆
I have pixel 9xl pro...love it.
Great video regardless.
still comfortable with pixel 6a
Still on the Pixel 7 Pro still have 450 GB of space , I'm going to be here for a while
