Thanks for posting! It’s very clear and it will help me out a lot! Last time i had a layout i was 16, and now i’m turning 27, so i’m rusty to say the least. Having vids like these where i get a step by step guidance will save me so much money, time, and frustration, the ideas are all in my head, and thanks to content like this i get an idea on how to start with the practical bit. Can’t wait to get started myself
cool i love this layout that has a model train in it and im going to start building it when im 14 and it will be easy to build when im grown up but for now im just 8 years old so im seeing videos how to build model train layouts to know how to build one when im grown up.
Ty! Very informative!😀 I'm finally gonna start my first H0 scaled scenery and this helpes alot☺ I want to make a layered city in the mountains and a nice big waterfall😀 it's gonna take a while till i have my first train running but i'm gonna take my time to work out all the scenery details!
I love these kinds of videos. Really gives me good ideas and directions on ways to build. Really a lot better than finished layouts and "Heres what I did".
Thank you so much for these videos guys. I’m very new into building my model and I drew a lot of inspiration and need to know information from your videos. Seriously, I cannot thank you enough. When I am done with mine, I will post a video and tag/message you guys. But to be honest, that’s probably a few years away.
Cool. I am a kid and I want to make a layout in my room. I want it to be just a plain forest with a waterfall. This got my hopes up it is so easy looking
I would use news papers , cardboard strips and masking tape for the mountains...Also i use durable paper towels soaked in woodland scenics plaster , it works just as good as rigid wrap. Just roll the newspapers in a ball and support them with masking tape and build it up. It will save you alot of money
Thank you for your videos, as well as a great example of creating a layout! And, also like to see more examples to create your layouts. Good luck to you!

One can get usually obtain the Dow blue, extruded polystrene foam from wholesale and retail stores that also supply lumber. I saw a large selection of Dow extruded foam at a Home Depot Store. If your timing is right you could get some of the blue foam left-over from building or rebuilding structures in your area.

How to know which type of glue won’t eat away at the foam? I’ve been planning to make two layouts, one for my Marklin train set and one for my Bachmann train set in the near future. But I need to get this point sorted out first
Hello I love how you layout the styrofoam for the rolling hills, and make it fit so perfectly. My layout unfortunately does not have that square fit to it. Anyway you can give me some ideas on how to square it up?
i love these videos but one question where u said to use plaster could u use plaster cloth dont get me wrong i love this video u did a good job on the layout
how would i go about making a scrapyard scene. kind of like orange rust everywere and very black worn down engines with dirty warehouses. what kind of powder would i use for rust.
Does anyone know the name of the music played at 5:54? This 'How to' video really is quite impressive and enjoying to watch. Again good choice of music, very fitting.
Are there any Hobby shops left?I always love how they make it sound like you can trot right down to the shop and pick up what you need. The one shop in this town Has very little and knows even less.....Sad.

No, you have to have wood under it because otherwise the foam would "bow" and everything would be mussed up, I have tried that and trust me you want ply wood under it.
@816hondarider I seen a article in "Modelrailroader" magazine they made a 4'x8' for $500. One thing you can do to save money make things like building out of trash (building/details/benchwork). Use meal dirt/sand/stone for scenery. Use toy cars like hotwheels for car (a little out of scale but they work) they are more cheap. I know many other ways I can PM you and tell you more.
Yes I did. Basement can cost you from $45K - $80K, depend of foundation. Try N-scale so you will save lot a space and you can enjoy same way like with HO or O scale. If you got more question go to my website for contact,
@jacobfain9... I got my foam from Lowe's... it should be back by roofing and insulation type stuff. I'm sure that you can find it at any similar store.
Trainman46 bit late, but you could actually try and make some areas deeper and others shallow, hell you could actually make a mini island in the middle if the foam was higher.
Thanks for the details of building a model railroad layout. Well show you how to build a 4x8 model train table (benchwork) from plywood, lay sections of track, create easy realistic scenery using foam and paint, assemble model buildings, and wire your layout with a DC power pack. For more further information, you can search on google as elumpa railroad buildings alchemist.

That's the most pleasant voice-over I've ever heard.

Mitt would not divulge information so informally...he would pay someone else to do it...he is a Republican>>>unfrfiendly to older ways or workers..

I might try that hill terrain method on my next model railroad layout. It'll be on plywood but I can make the hills out of the foam stuff anyway.

Ironic that you say that, just as i was seeing an ad for star wars the clone wars lol!
Literally after watching this video i built this layout. They actually sell a set with all the track used

love the videos lots of help in my ho layout
What is the stuff you used to get the shape of the hills?
I'm interested in making a layout with the Bachman track pack that you use here, But I need to know if the switch out is DCC or manual?
Do the controllers that come with ready-to-run sets work with this method? I'd like to make one to run my Bachmann Thomas and other train sets on
Does anyone know the name of the music played at 5:54?
This 'How to' video really is quite impressive and enjoying to watch. Again good choice of music, very fitting.
THats the greatest vid ever Id made a realistic railway but its kinda bigger my trains are thomas the tank engine
What was the type of foam You used in the for the hills? my computer jammed and won't let me watch any further. Cheers.
Why glue it when you can pin it using the three holes that are in the EZ track so you can you re-use it later?
very professional videos !!
i can't find foam board that big. where did you get yours.
It was worth the shot lol
sooooooooooo much better than expertville :D
what train set did you use
Are there any Hobby shops left?I always love how they make it sound like you can trot right down to the shop and pick up what you need. The one shop in this town Has very little and knows even less.....Sad.
wow i watch this video when we work on my lay out 5 stars
Why didn't you use Smooth-It from Woodland Scenics?
Could i use air dry clay instead of plaster on the hills?
Would dearly like to replicate your layout in 00 but was wondering how much room I would need, I have only 6' x4'. Could I achieve it?
hello
What material did you use to build a mountain?
For leveling concrete, I would use like a toy steamroller to level it out. Yes it will get clogged but it will be realistic.
+Joshua Peterson interesting points ,if anyone else is searching for how do you make a model train layout try Vaxicorn Railroaders Membership Guide (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my friend got cool success with it.
How are u gonna do that?
Maybe get a custom made steamroller that can level out model concrete but doesn't get clogged.
And it will look cool
SteamKing2160 wilesco or mamod steam roller lol
what size surfa e is that built on
@terrorrname keep in mind i live in the uk i don't know where i can find home depo here. thanks anyway
I want to use only foam without plywood under it. Will that work?
No, you have to have wood under it because otherwise the foam would "bow" and everything would be mussed up, I have tried that and trust me you want ply wood under it.
What kind of board did he use?
What kind of trains are running on this layout ?
Märklin (HO)
same with the rails they are märklin
He's said it was Bachman e-z track. Figured the train would be the same
What about HO Scale? That's the only scale I collect
Sheet cork is expensive so I used cork tack tiles which you can get in bundles for like $5.
Were do I get the Road kit from. Please help someone.
err where can i find electric train models?? please reply ASAP!
Nice
Interesting video. Thumbs up! :)
What's the music at rockface ??
Here is something else you could do. Replace one of the rerailers with a Bachmann E-Z Track crossing gate.
This is a great help guys thanks allot when are more coming out I need more !!!!! :)
great video i gotta tell ya

Why don't they have bumpers on the yard track?
Good question, I think they forgot about it.
Helpful
What type of foam is being used on the layout at 3:17?
Extruded foam
@jacobfain9... I got my foam from Lowe's... it should be back by roofing and insulation type stuff. I'm sure that you can find it at any similar store.
Does it have to be a gravel company? why not coal?
It could be anything Ray...
Jaysus,, you have to explain everything to some people...
it depends on what fantasy you have
Thanks this is helping me start my first layout, thank you!!
Also how many foam boards did yall buy?
lol.. I messed up and bought a 3/4 inch foam sheet... he he. pretty shallow lakes ahead!
If you have not laid your track, just get some foam safe glue, like liquid nail, and glue another board on it.
Trainman46 bit late, but you could actually try and make some areas deeper and others shallow, hell you could actually make a mini island in the middle if the foam was higher.

What sucks is my citys last hobby shop got closed down about 2 to 3 years ago, so model trains are scarce.
I watched this while I was at work, and couldn't see all of it. So, when I came home, I punched it in again. It won't load for some reason? Pretty nice ideas, though.
