- Great energetic performance of The Smashing Pumpkins in playing "I Of The Mourning" live on Musique Plus in Monreal Canada. The songs ending is really the best part of this live performance, so your just going to have to watch the whole thing.
This performance is part 6 of 8. For the audio:

For me the most clutching song on the Machina Album, It's wonderfully arranged that sweeps you through the journey against your will.
Bryan Ross couldn't have describe it my self better...
& Pug...... brilliant emotion
♥️
A briliant song, one of pumpkins best. In general Machina underated by far. love it from a to z. happy for reissue.
Live version sounds much more powerful.. Machina was the first Pumpkins album I had gotten and I really like it stylistically..
Agreed!
Maybe that's why D'Arcy left during ha
Ah
I always think of machina as the start of smashing pumpkins "production problems"
And , sadly an early adopter of protools, therefore an O.G. protools casualty.
It's hard to believe that the core mix/engineering/producer team made machina sound like, well, THAT after working so lovely and with a certain timelessness on MCIS.
Songs like Ava Adore sound more modern and recent still today (relevant and radio friendly imo) than the electronic tinged stuff anywhere on machina.
And stuff like blue skies bring tears clipping and distortiond at the end are just embarrassing. It's the stuff that cringe is made of.
I was ready to write them off sadly until I heard machina 2. Luckily I still had time to go see them live then .
Simple. Louder. Fuzzier. Poorly produced? Probably? So what.
It FEEELS and sounds. Better. In SPs case a lot of the times less is more because they all play with Such finesse and intensities
But honestly, one last thought
(And I do apologize and as much as I'm ragging on this.
It's not ½ as bad as mama mints to an elderly woman behind the counter in a small town.)
It's so bad I sometimes confuse the track listing and songs on machina with those on zeitgeist.
I have to stop and think try try try was zeitgeist right?
And the base being so crazy loud I forgot and country it always confuses me and trips me up and makes me think it was machina- just like the end of blue skies bring tears...
And that's the way my love is almost sounds like a sequel to stand inside your Love, and finally never lost and with every light could probably swap places on the LPs gen xyu would be none the wiser
bro! my first SP album also! such a unique way to get into them through that album I think.
It’s just too too good. I would buy up every live machina song if they were ever available. Instantly.
There is NOTHING that can compare to the Pumpkins. Greatest band on earth. Machina I and II are great albums, everyone should have them!
Such an underated album...
This is one of the best live videos I have ever seen!
anarchoutis TRY A PERFECT CIRCLE AND MUSE LIVE! 🎶
this whole set is pretty killer… just wish it had a few songs from _Adore._
this tune is so shoegaze! i love it!
Absolutely Brilliant
You've gotta love that about Corgan's writing: atmospheric, which i love personally, and melodically pleasing, next to genius riffs and chord progressions. no matter how simple or complex Billy's songs are, they find a way to seap threw into your soul. He's the best alt-rock writer since Bowie.
Holy shit I just love the energy he has here and how he changed the song a bit from the original. He screams radio more often and actually screams it like he's trying to yell out the message to everyone. The crowed, with the exception of a couple people, seemed very tame..I would have gone nuts!
@@kyloren7070 Whoa calm down dude.
I wish they were doing raindrops + sunshowers. After all the years and delays I'm gonna be so disappointed if there's no rehearsal or demo or live versions of it on the deluxe reissue
This is one of my favourites from that album bro. Everytime i hear it it just takes me right back to that time period
@@kyloren7070 aye its a good song lek👍🤷♂️
I love James' guitar parts
The little melodies he adds are fantastic
incredible song, timeless album
Yes! Machina is my favorite album too is amazing ♥
Most expressive and artistically used perhaps... That's why he's my favorite singer, because he uses all of the different timbres of his voice to create different moods. Every time I hear a new performance I hear how he's adapting the song to the moment he's in. That changing voice helps reinvent the song.
The magic that came from Iha and Corgan is priceless. The backing ebow tracks James created were genius. I will miss him but eh, its all about the Corgan right now
such a great composition / song with such a great new wave sound meets modern rock. well done
Love the frenetic energy of this video fueled by their performance. Even James Iha got into it which was a rare sight toward the end.
I love this song, and this is the best live version i've ever seen.
I can't believe this album did so badly it's one of my favourites.
Bad production, bad album art, bad time for rock bands generally, and a few of the best songs left on Machina II. Song writing is still top-notch.
@@Ready2FreakingPlow i think the most important of what you mentioned was the era. rock was just dying. but yeah, smashing pumpkins never cared much for marketing...
It’s got great songs but the production was a bit off. Very metallic guitar sound, and his voice was even more nasal than before. Mellon Collie sounded warmer. The live versions of Machina songs are mostly better; louder guitars and Billy screaming and just more real energy.
The songs were a bit too long and the entire album is just too long with 15 songs, although I don’t think that would affect the sales numbers.
Anyway, I love the album but I have rarely listened to the entire thing in one go.
@@Ready2FreakingPlow I couldn’t disagree more. I think the production is some of the best I’ve ever heard (and I listen to a lot of music), and as a visual artist myself, the artwork was top notch.
The fact of the matter is that the best art is never appreciated by the masses, by design. By definition, “mediocrity” is the appeal to the largest group. Not trying to be a dick, but the things that are most popular are almost alway the most mediocre.
@@Brinta3 thats a good description really im the same ive rarely listened from start to finish but has some great songs. I went to see this tour live in glasgow
This is the greatest song on the album. This is the best live version out there. Every other live version they up the tempo and it sounds to fast.
the whole band looks so good in this vid. i love the song, the pumpkins and especially THIS VERSION!
great ♥
Great live performance of I of the Mourning from Machina album !
best live version of this song ive ever heard for sure
I think that their new songs are not as good as this one and the old ones, but I still love them, Billy Corgan is the greatest songwriter ever. I love this song, the lyrics and the music are killer and so passioned
Perfect song and voice from Mr. Corgan, one of the best of the world forever!!!!!
This IS rock and roll
My personal favorite song of SM. It’s mine.
My god. This is too good. Knocks you over in a very needed way.
The best Pumpkins concert.
I prefer the live version of this song from the original. But I think this song is amazing and I love the lyrics, the bass lines and Billy's voice!
Billy's playing a Gibson Les Paul Special. I think he might have had two of these around the time this was filmed. One in standard tuning (E) for this song, and one tuned down to C for songs like "The Everlasting Gaze" and "Heavy Metal Machine"
Fuck! This is gold!
i like james iha in this execution! really a shoegazer!
Exactly!
Machina is my favorite album!!
Its beautiful!
So beautiful
i am the radio, you are the radio, we are the radio...radi oooooooo!!!!
+Kenny The Jet get a life, loser
I have a life thanks lol. Why don't you try out for the special Olympics. dumbass
Whatever pathetic moron.
Okay noted schizo.. With all your long crap comments,I think you got an issue..Please move on..lol
lol, you're an emotional lesbian its so funny
perfect!!!! the best of the best MR. Billy Corgan!!!!1
My favorite from Machina.
I still cant get enough of this video.
Melissa is such an awesome bassist!
Oh, is that Melissa Auf der Maur?
@@cyrilandersonyup.
for me is the best song of The Smashing
Me neither! I love this band and I had totally forgot about this song. I found it again at a perfect time!
You're the best Mr. Corgan!! Yeeaahhhhh
There's elements in this song from one of the Teargarden songs..can't remember right now.
one of my favourite songs
hey thats a brilliant show
FUCK. YES.
These guys always save something special for their live performances. This packs and especially hard Wallop :-)
Great version of a great song.
Great lyrics
best...video...ever
AMAZING! Intense too!
Billy´s face at 3:22 always makes me smile!
One of the best Pumpkin´s songs ever, it´s a shame they didn´t put that ending in the song on MACHINA record although they often perform it with this ending, maybe they came up with it later on... Anyone who knows?
Oh how I miss the Smashing Pumpkins. Nothing quite like them.
this outro is so good that i find it weird they never put it on the album. I remember corgan saying that some parts he wanted in the album never made it to production...wonder if this outro was part of that?
What a cool ending!
That was such a small audience. Dunno how I would've react...I think I you have been in awe.
As much as I love SIYL, this is probably my favorite SP song, and I really feel it should've been given some radio play
(sorry 4 my english)
First Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadnessthen you can go with Siamese Dream, then Adore, Machina II, Machina, and if you like it, obviusly you should search for Pisces Iscariot, Gish, and Airplane Flies High. The Pumpkins was/are a band who have a lot of amazing songs, event the ones who are not in a sepecific disc, for example some of the songs of Airplane Flies High or some rarities and B-sides are truly incredible (Hardly to think why it aren´t singles)
word up! long live mr. corgan!
Siamese dream is their best album I think, for pure rockness. Adore is really underrated, got some incredible songs on it! Siamese dream, melloncollie, and adore are their best albums IMO.
Machina
Adore = Mellon Collie
Machina II
Siamese Dream
Gish
Zeitgeist
Teargarden
07/07/07 cant wait. so is there confirmation that Iha really is not coming back? i can deal without D'arcy but a Smashing Pumpkins album without Iha is not a Pumpkins album.
OMG the end is great... I wasn't that impressed with the begining this being a favorite of mine but wow did it build up ♥
❣️
Agreed!!!
I can't fucking believe there are videos on youtube that are old enough to drive
long live Billy Corgan
DANG!!
que hermoso
@nineinchpinktool Yes, it is.
I wish this version of SP continued doing what they were doing and bc never got all goofy.
Like a pitbull who takes you by the throat and will never let go, like a plane rushed on a tower without possible landing ...
Yeeeeeeeeeeee haaaaaaaaawwwwwwww!!!
agreed.
god damn
The end of this song is just sooooooo good, though i dont know i prefered the real song over this one.
Oi,I'm new to The Smashing Pumpkins and am wondering if you guys can reccomend some of their other stuff to me.I'd greatly appreciate it =]
Eargasm at 2:00 mark
billy. its time to save the musicverse. really.
Nice machina
well, new order did ask billy to tour with them. it's not that absurd to call this an homage to transmission, and also on the radio by cheap trick and radio radio by elvis costello.
i of the mourning certainly belongs in the same category.
Probably only like half the crowd came there having heard Machina. The rest probably came thinking they'd hear Siamese Dream and Melon Collie stuff. You'd think they'd know how Billy does stuff by this point.
What is he playing? a Les Paul Junior?
@Zinjonovicstrings Adore is near the top for me :D
"so your just going to have to watch the whole thing." Or, wait until it finishes loading and go straight to the ending.
I agree haha. mm here Billy Corgan reminds me the singer of an animated band hiting strong here in Italy not being a million dollar production. Search for SWAVE IN THE FUTURE
It's at 2:00 where it starts for me
Machina > Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie
♫ ♬ ♪ what is it you want??? .. ♪ ♩ ♭ What is it you want to change? ♫ ♬
Corgan has the best voice ever.
ya te curaste angel ferrer?
One of the very few live shows, where corgans lack of voice isnt that annoying:D
Love them anyway
radio play i of the mourning
I'd start with Gish and go on from there. All of their stuff is great.
The last good thing MTV ever broadcast...
Actually it's Musique Plus (Montreal)
