    So comprehensive. Like the heat map. Now I learned that my colour scheme is very bad for the sun :) I've started using armour this year and I'm not going back to integrated. Reason no1 is ventilation and freedom of movement, especially in hard sections. I'm always carrying thin windproof jacket in my bags for cold days. This enables me to easily ride at 10 degrees C. Maybe even better than in normal jacket. Never going back to integrated for offroading. Also, much easier to wash and dry than normal jacket.

      Thanks!
      I had to learn the hard way about the heat map 😂. I always thought red would be bad for direct sun light and blue would be good. Totally the opposite!
      I’m 100% with you. Ventilation, freedom of movement and protection are much better with external body armor.

    Love your videos! I just got back into riding after not being able to since I was a kid. I found your channel after I purchased the CRF300L and your videos are so clear and cadid about the pros and cons for equipment given different riding styles/enviorments. @@RoiaMoto It feels amazing to be back riding! It's just so much freedom and fun. I'm still getting back into it and I'm not as good as I used to be, so I haven't done any longer trips yet. I live near the rocky mountains though, so there are some pretty awesome trails close by. Once I get more comfortable with riding again and I have all the gear I plan to do a longer trip with my dad (he loves your channel too btw 😊).

    Great topic! Noone covered it as thorough as you did ! Great deal of information and input! Body Armor is always more protective ,jackets either wont have chest protector or no rib protection. I use the leatt hybrid 3d,it flows more air as the 5.5. Only downside is it has no rib protection.I crashed several times, and it always protected me. Also i use mesh jerseys in hot summer. You forgot the chapters. Thanks

      @@RoiaMoto Yes, even in hot weather, 86 F ( 30C ) and above, it's so well-ventilated. I throw a jersey over it, and I'm set.

    I like your systematic approach...I use dedicated body armor with special non-plastic pads for the elbows instead of plastic...That makes it way more comfortable and with a riding jersey on top I don't even consider taking it off for lunch or longer stops...It's the same effect you described - I just don't notice it...Washing it in a washing machine and even drying is also an option I use frequently...Separate rain top also helps in chilly mornings or nights as it prevents airflow and makes you warm. I hope you create a similar video for lower body protection - knee braces vs pads, etc...

      Thanks! Glad to hear you’ve enjoyed the video.
      Thanks for the suggestions as well. Great to get another rider’s real usage perspective.
      I like the idea of non-plastic pads. I felt the discomfort of it only on my elbows.
      Ideally I would love to keep it on at all times, even when having lunch or longer breaks.
      The one you’re using can be washed in the washing machine?
      I’m not sure with the LEATT 5.5, but I can see it would be very tricky to throw these hard plastics inside the washing machine. I’m not even sure it fits inside my washing machine 😂.

    Very helpful, Roia. Always had jackets, over pants with embedded armour because that's what we used since the 90s but, it is hot, for sure, in the summer. Nothing is as bad as my ancient one-piece road race leathers :) I use Game Over spray for hockey gear to keep the stink down. Very effective. the smell of a hockey bag is the song of our people in Canada. Lots of access here, I can choose to ride to the trail or trailer the bike there behind the car. Very fortunate.

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
      I totally get it. This is my first year with separate body armor, and the decision was primarily driven by heat. Last year, I was in Montenegro during peak summer, which was brutal. I found out in a good way that the rib protection is also a lifesaver with this Leatt 5.5.
      I assume you are in the US. You guys have a lot of freedom for off-road riding. I would love to be able to access trails near my home, but it always takes 2 hours to reach the closest one.
      Have a great 2025!

    It's expensive, but the Adventure Spec Super Shirt is my answer. It goes on and off like a coat if you wear a t-shirt underneath. I like the abrasion (AA) and impact protection (Level 2) close to my body and I can wear anything over it. I remove the chest/back armor and wear an A-10 over the SS for rib protection when serious off-roading. I move freely in this setup. I spent a lot of dough on protection, but it's worth it to me

    • @multi-Actionsport
      @multi-Actionsport 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can only agree that. I also switched to the Supershirt last year. The problems with putting on and undressing do not exist. I wear it with or without a T-shirt depending on the temperature. Sometimes a jersey over it depending on my mood, nothing hooks ...

    • @RoiaMoto
      @RoiaMoto  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I looked into the adventure spec but I didn’t have the budget for it.

      Have you found any cons with it?

    • @lj1177
      @lj1177 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      +1. The super shirt works great for me also. I layer using a wool undershirt, Supershirt, then a variety of cheap windproof vest, extra light puffy jackets and windbreaker. They all pack really tight and can be used in any combination and work as basic street wear while touring. I also use the Adventure spec pants although the Mosko moto pants are also very good and I could have bought them instead of the AS ones. This setup works well for touring and BDR multi-day rides. The expense is in the SuperShirt and the pants, the rest is used for hikes, camping, skiing, biking and was already lying in my closet.

    couple more points to consider: On single track, moto jacket is always too hot. In hot climate, most motorcycle jackets are too hot, the armor shifts around, the impact protection is hit or miss. Moto jackets are bulky, there is no room on small dual sport to store the jacket.
    Black armor is good, dry faster, just wear a light mesh jersey over the armor.
    My solution is air vest/jersey/soft armor. take air vest off for offroad trails. wind proof layer, and/or puffer jacket for cooler weather, takes much less space than moto jacket.

    • @RoiaMoto
      @RoiaMoto  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey David,
      Fully agreed. I like very much the air vest idea. You mean like an air bag vest, right? Must say I have already used airbag jackets but never an airbag vest over the external body armour. I think you nailed. Perfect combination for going on and offroad. I'm definetely doing that on my next trip. Thanks for sharing!

    I have the same protector, in white color. I haven't figured out how to adjust the rib protectors from the side. I saw that you keep the protectors separate when you wash them. So please advise me how to adjust them. I also have a Honda CRF300l (for one month so far), your videos are very inspiring. Thanks!

    • @RoiaMoto
      @RoiaMoto  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nice! I would also have gone with the white one, but as I bought it second hand, only black was available around my area.
      Definitely adjust the rib protectors. It makes a difference.
      To adjust it, open the zipper and lay the vest on a flat surface with the inside part of the back exposed.
      You will notice that there is a “pocket” opening in there. You need to pull the back protector out through this hole. It’s quite tricky to do it but you will manage.
      Once you do that, you will see the adjusting mechanism of the rib protectors.
      Give it a try. If you can’t manage, reach out to me. I have a contact form on the website.

      @@RoiaMoto ... Although mine does have a kidney belt, yours seems to offer more side protection. ... I looked at LOT of them before deciding.
      Because it was going to be for summer (USA Mid-Atlantic, Maryland, Pennsylvania) I wanted as much ventilation as possible while offering protection.
      I looked at side zippers but wanted to go with the center zipper.

      Hi mate!
      Thanks for sharing your preference here in the comments! That’s always positive.
      I’ll test your suggestion with a skin layer underneath, but I really would like to avoid riding with the black mesh of the protector and the actual plastic protectors visible on the outside. This would immediately put me on 3 layers instead of 2. Maybe it’s not a problem and I’ll give it a try.
      I have to say that I didn’t not experience any rash with 2 weeks of daily riding.
      About the goretex I’m 100% with you. Even though it’s advertised as breathable, it’s just not the same. It still blocks a lot of air flow.
      Goretex for me would be only for cold weather riding but at this point it’s not worth it anymore.

      Actually something I should have mentioned in the video but forgot.
      Back when I use to do primary street riding, I used to have an airbag system. Not the electronic type, but just with a theater. It gave me the convenience of a jacket, no smelling, abrasion and protection protection.
      For off-road the external body armor wins hands down.
