    *An Ode to Low Porosity*
    I tried out a new kind of set,
    Slept on it to see what I get,
    But though 'twas but damp,
    When I put in the clamps,
    My low-porous hair was still wet.

  • @Honestly_Marie
    @Honestly_Marie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +145

    Girl. All you gotta do is not style your hair when it is sopping wet 😂. Honestly I think a lot of people mistakenly think they are low porosity because their hair isn’t drying overnight, not understanding that things simply don’t dry if the water is not allowed to evaporate. In other words, you can’t expect your hair to dry if moisture isn’t allowed to escape (like from your bonnet, for example.) If you are indeed low porosity, just dry your hair more than normal before you start styling it. Remember, nothing is difficult to deal with once you gain experience with it. You don’t need high porosity hair to style it.

  • @ritacunningham8961

    One thing I’d start with is a different type of mousse. That one you used has honey in it which is a humectant and pulls moisture from the air around you and if you are heavy handed with the product it might be why it took longer for your hair to dry and might be what caused you to loose the hold in the product when you went outside. Living in GA and having low porosity hair and trying to hair any style is whole other added factor in this hair journey. I’d suggest getting a steamer cap and hooded dryer to help set styles before leaving the house since is an added humidity issue.I like The Doux Mousse Def it’s my go to mousse for styles like this.

    • @Ash_9
      @Ash_9 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    A hooded dryer is ESSENTIAL ♥️.
    I'm glad that you aren't doing overnight wet styles, because you are right that having your hair wet too long will definitely weaken it. What I do for my low porosity hair is style, and then maybe wait 10 minutes for product to set. And then... I go straight under that hooded dryer lol 😄. Medium heat, and medium air. It will make everything so much easier. And even the cheap $30 or $40 ones from Walmart work great too.

    • @markeliupson943
      @markeliupson943 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@HAlia-cb1ns Hooded dryers use indirect heat. Instead of direct heat like a hand-held dryer. So you won't cause damage to your hair by using it regularly.
      Air drying is okay, but if it takes several hours for your hair to dry, then it will be better to use a hooded dryer. Since having your hair wet for a very long time regularly will give you hygral fatigue and weaken your hair strands. That's why I prefer to use hooded dryer

    I feel these styling videos because I always want to do something extra with my hair. I can’t really say I care if people can see the length, but I just want to feel comfortable wearing it the way it grows out of my head, but also being able to style it in something as easy as a “messy bun”. I rarely style my hair though when it is longer. I have 4a hair, maybe a tad bit shorter than yours but I’ve been trying to figure out if I’d even feel prettier with longer hair, cause right now I’m agitated and feel like shaving it off again. 🤪
    All women have hair issues, but being black it’s basically trying to figure out whether you have internalized racism and that’s why you think you need to style your hair, or if you actually legitimately just want a new style cause you like it.

From all of the tutorials that I've seen it takes smaller sections, HELLA product, and just about 24 hours worth of SERIOUS drying/dryer time to accomplish the desired look. THEN, particularly for 4C hair, it's only gonna last for that day and maybe 1 to 2 days afterwards. Wish it was easier for us.

    Danielle I have 4C hair too and I watch Green Beauty also. I keep my hair stretched using my blow dryer. Now before you freak out I take many precautions to avoid any heat damage and blow out my hair safely. 1) I only blow dry my hair AFTER deep conditioning it, 2) I only use the cool/cold temperature, 3) I use a heat protectant even though I’m using cold temperatures and 4) I only use a ceramic tourmaline hair dryer on my hair as recommended by Green Beauty. And the result? Stretched out hair that I’m able to maintain in a protective style for two weeks.
    So on wash day I do my normal routine including deep conditioning my hair well ( I use Shea moisture Manuka honey). Once I rinse out the deep conditioner I then add the melanin hair care multi-purpose leave in conditioner (I see you use it too. It’s amazing). Then I rub in some of the CHI silk fusion serum as a heat protectant and then working in small sections and using slight tension I blow dry my hair straight on the coolest (no heat) setting using the best blow dryer in the world (in my opinion) the RED Kiss Tourmaline Ceramic 1875 Pro. You can get it off of amazon. My hair comes out pretty straight, extremely soft to the touch and I’m able to keep it stretched in a protective style for two weeks until my next wash day. Hope this helps.
    P.S. I live in Georgia too so I understand the struggle with the humidity. I feel like the CHi serum helps with this alot. 🤗

    My hair is the exact same type as yours, and there’s no way for it to hold shape perfectly in Bantu knots/ curl formers if there’s no heavy butter to weigh it down. You don’t need anything beside raw whipped shea butter (apply it HEAVILY, not all at once but a lot per individual Bantu knot or curl). works like a charm!

    Hello there, i really appreciate all the hard work you are doing with posting these videos as I have the same exact hair as you. You are refreshingly entertaining :)
    What I've learned throughout my journey is balance. If my hair is feeling too dry i give it moisture, if my hair keep breaking off and waaay too much its time for a trim (just an inch off the ends). If my styles are falling flat I find products that promote strengthen, such as mousse (softer hold without weighting my hair down) PLUS its not a gel that might turn into flakes. Like the seasons things change, and with our hair we have to switch it up every once and awhile.
    Anyways keep up the good work!!! I like being able to find people that are in the same boat as me!!

    I use curl and wave formers often (I really recommend trying wave formers), and I find that they work the best when the hair is damp at most. *Never wet!* Also, I'd recommend using smaller sections. Maybe about 50% smaller.
    If you use some gel or wax with your other products, it will hold a lot better.
    Additionally, whenever you take them out and want to style them, *never* use a brush if you have if you have 3a-4c curls or coils, because it will get frizzy and puffy. Use your fingers and some hair oil to detangle and smooth it out for the best effect.
    Carefully putting your curled hair into low pigtails or a low pony, will also flatten it out a little if needed.
    The most important thing is to make sure it's completely dry.

    I'm 3c. Spent $65 on those things. Curls would last half a day. Ended up giving them to goodwill. Its a great way to stretch the hair, but not style if you have high porosity

  • @Viviolau
    @Viviolau 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have low porosity hair and i'm probably gonna upset somebody - but I use HEAT before I take out any set style. I use indirect heat with a dome dryer, finish with a cool shot to close my cuticles, and I don't have issues.

  • @coffeebean4356

    Another comment- I use two products as of now. I use warm water (initially), with fresh aloe vera and Jamaican black castor oil. I put that all over my hair, like almost saturate, then "squish" my strands with the mix instead of running it down the strands. After, I use Shea butter to seal it when I style it in twists.
    And her smile when it worked!!! 😍♥️💜💜♥️

    I got a perm rod set and it came out cute, but it would've been better if I had my better pick. It lasted two days ( doing the upside pineapple helped), but the back was the problem because when I sleep/lay down, then the back was the first to fallout. I still enjoyed it and now I'm rocking twists.

    Your reaction was mine when I did them for the first time. Idk why, but it makes my hair so shiny. The only thing that I don’t like is how it reverts so I usually do a braid out or twist out on the stretched hair and it’s p nice

    After your washday put your hair in twists or braids and let them dry then style on that. You could even stretch them in a ponytail once they’re about 70% dry to get more length. If while you’re conditioning or deep conditioning detangle and pit you’re hair in neat but chunky twists and leave them in while you’re rinsing that’ll make the process way easier 😺 hope this helps ✌🏾
