And here I was putting the elastic on my hat under my chin 😂 Under the hair sounds so much nicer!

Now I know how hatpins actually work! I've wondered forever and it all seems so logical now you've demonstrated it.

Thank you for bringing this back! Hat pins used to be used by ladies for self defense (ex on trains against handsy men). There's even a quote from Roosevelt about the wrath of women with hat pins 🙂. Having hat pins made women feel safer traveling alone and was a symbol of female independence.

I estimate where my hatpin will go, and I place a bobby pin in my hair in that location. Then once I've put the hat on over it, I can run the hatpin under the bobby pin. It lasts all day and locks everything in place.

Now that is a fabulous idea Nicole!!! I think this would work especially for short hair! thanks for the tip!

@@dawn8293 Humidity is a major buzz kill. 🌡 In SoCal we typically have a dry blistering heat sometimes year round where only the lightest summer hats will do. I can only stand to wear beloved wool hats a few brisk Fall or Winter Days. ☂️ Parasols can be pretty & come in handy ☀️.

You can also sew loops to either side of your hat, then attach to hair with bobby pins through the loops. Just found your channel and it is fun. Thank you

Thread elastic through teeth of two small combs. Attach one on each sides of hat. Pull down on elastic looped combs while placing hat on head. Invert combs and insert, teeth up, into hair. The tension of the elastic, anchored by the combs in the hair, keep the hat in place.

I know this is off topic, but you have the most beautiful complexion. It looks stunning with the jet black hair and red lip. That dark purple top is perfect complement as well. It’s nice to see someone embracing and making the most of their porcelain skin! It’s one of my favourite looks.

I just found this 7-year-old video and it’s so very helpful. I love anything “vintage” which takes me away from this current mess that mankind has created.
You even have a vintage name - “Evelyn”. How apropos that your mother would name you one of the beautiful old names from yesteryear.
THANK YOU FOR THIS WELL-MADE VIDEO, EVELYN.

Those are great tips however I would recommend using the little Combs in the front of the hat because then it works with gravity. This is one way we secure hats just like these for theatrical productions. It's also important (to preserve the hairstyle) to put the hat on front first then secure the back, and when you remove it, unsecure the back first then the front and remove it I that same direction because it won't mess up your hair. (Or dislodge the wig which is what you seeing about 90% of period plays and films.) and
