So basically Guy can pull his chest register higher than Wes cos Wes was already using his falsetto from Eb5 while both Guy and David was using their chest dominant mix voice. Anyways, all three are great. I love all of them. I love Guy's way of singing and his aura and influence. His powerful voice is the perfect pair for David's voice. I love Wes for his clean and powerful voice. This guy is talented seriously. He's one of my inspirations in my singing career. But David Phelps is unmatched. WORLD-CLASS! He is the best tenor out there. Even surpassing some of the classical tenor singers (don't wanna say names cos it might trigger some people). LOL David could have gone out to the world and sing secular but he chose to serve the Lord with his God-given talent and that's why I adore him the most. Godbless these singers! They're all amazing.

I was very surprised when Wes hit that F5 in "singing with the saints" But the fact that Guy and David Carries chest to F5 is such a game changer, the fact they have kept there voice in shape till now is a wonder after all these years. Also while David as the most refined technique(mostly between B4-E5), I just love Guy’s Tone on his notes and how meaningful/soulful his voice is,completely embodying a song and if you’ve been following him since his studio days you’ll know there’s not a genre of Gospel he can’t sing. His vibrato is pretty underrated as well. Overall....they are Three Legendary tenors and this was a fun Comparison...Excellent!!
The thing is I always thought Guy Penrod was a humble baritone like myself... His range is just insane... The highest I can hit is like an F#4 these are all tones I can just dream of hitting naturally.
@@huliniswhoiam there is no way Guy would be a baritone. His timbre is too bright and his tessitura is too high. He’s far too comfortable in his range to be a baritone. Him being a lead singer/2nd tenor simply means he has the melody for the songs. Baritones wouldn’t have the ease that Guy has in his upper and even his middle range, His F4s-G4s alone proves that.

Not too shabby for a guy in his early 50s! But honestly, Guy and Wes don't get enough credit. I've had the privilege of meeting each of them, and all of them are absolute gentlemen :).
Great comparison. Guy has the thickest of the voices (think of a guitar string). His actual vocal classification is probably some sort of baritone, great voice. David isn't a baritone but he has a heavier voice than most tenors, and has also been able to maintain singing very difficult songs for so many years. Wes has the lightest voice of the three, but his voice isn't as light as most gospel tenors. Wes can hit the high notes, and has great style. I wouldn't call him a dramatic tenor like David, but he's good too! David is my favorite, but they each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Wes owns some songs because of his great style, and I wouldn't want David to sing those songs.
David does not have a thicker voice than most tenors. He just sings with a lower, more stable larynx than most tenors do because he was trained to do so.
That vid of David at 3:55 of the song from The Bodyguard was just released a few weeks ago. .. with only a piano and a viola (I think? In his living room?). Pure as silk.

Everyone seems to be underestimating guy and wes here. Guy has the best lower register out of all of them, and above d5, Wes' approach is much more healthy than david's.
Please do a video of Michael English! Nowadays he is underrated but there is a reason why he was as big as he was. That man could SANG!!! His highest notes are between the 80s and 90s. I'll give you examples: C5 from Winds Of This World NQC 2013, C#5 in One By One 1986, a fully belted D5 in Get All Excited Live 1989,a strong falsetto E5 on One By One 1986 and a lot of G5s (falsettos) in the late 80s. Yes, those soaring falsetto vocals on the Wings album in 1988 were by Michael. Please check him out.
