Out of curiosity regarding Bb4, I searched on how to sing in Bb4..so this one popped up. Now I know where to categorize EXO D.O's voice. Wow! I'm amazed with the line up of singers. (I have NO knowledge of music terms but I love music In all genres)
@@Christfollower06 Her abilities aside, how insecure would it be if she scoffed and said "I can do better." "Why is she in awe at good singing when she can do better?" What a ridiculous question.
Hey great job getting Wes Hampton, Steve Green, and David Phelps in there. My preference is Steve Green. Steve used to also be the lead singer of White Heart - where you can hear high C's, D',s E's, and F... its crazy... There is an amazing tenor who really shined in the 90's. His name is Luke Garrett. The last of his youtube url: fE7uD8p_Fb4
List in my opinion: 1. Jackie Wilson 2. David Phelps 3. Steve Perry Jackie Wilsonnnnnn dang bro. Should've been way higher than number 5. He is, I think, a baritone, so straining will obviously be there, unless a suitable technique is developed. He sounded quite comfortable to me, for a baritone.
I take that these guys are tenors or high baritones. My highest is a G4 in chest voice and that note is very difficult for me to sustain/hit. I can sustain a F#4 2-3 seconds, and F4 3-4 and easier as it gets lower. My lowest is Eb2 on a good day, mostly E2. I can also reach up to A5 in head voice, Bb5 on good days. I take that I'm a bass-baritone, Eb2-G4 + Bb5 full modal register.
**P.H.&.T** I thought my highest is G4 too but when I started to sing higher and with more heady mix I finally manage to hit some A4-Bb4 from time to time being a dramatic baritone. Of course I can't support them, sustain or sing, I just can HIT them but it's still a proof that with a proper training and technique baritones can sing high too.
I feel like people should keep in mind that not all these songs were written or designed to hold a sustained Bb4. Maybe it doesn’t go with the rest of the song. Maybe the song calls for staccato Bb4 notes. Or maybe they will belt and sustain a different note, possibly even a higher note~
+JCaunario if you think those notes are actually belted, you my friend have been mislead... listen to some heavy metal and you will discover what a real belt is ....
+JordanOverKobe23 From what I can hear, Steven is a spinto tenor, his larynx is not low at all, since he's a spinto tenor his voice is darker and heavier than David Phelps, actually they sing with the same technique, the difference is that David not only have a lighter voice, but is more on the "call voice", the broadway kind of belt.

Steve's larynx is definitely down on this Bb4. If you watch some of his other videos, you can literally see when he lowers his larynx and raises it, depending on the resonance he wants for that specific note. But you are right, Phelps definitely employs belting which leaves the larynx up.
Damn, David Archuleta has had better Bb4's than the one shown here, he got better after that performance, in fact i see him belting a lot of B4's like it's nothing
His technique is not bad, I just don't think he's comfortable belting past A4. He sounds a little tight and nasally. His support seems to end right at A4 because his belts are open and resonant. He seems to have a low tessitura to me. I think he's a (low) light-lyric tenor.
Some of them like the Weekend and the Adam Levin for example weren't live and were so overproduced it definitely doesn't count. There were definitely some really good ones though!
Johnny Cuff he more like a baritone for me too, but with good technique so he can hit some high notes like tenor. But his timbre and his tessitura still makes him more like a baritone

David Phelps oh my God. He's ridiculous. Amazing singer.

David Phelps and Steve Green were excellent. They're at the top of the list! Lol. Tevin Campbell and Jackie Wilson were great too.
nty
Were you saying "No Thank You?" If you were that's your opinion. They did great.
Wow, Avery Wilson.
And that guy Jackie Wilson. Wes Hampton. And of course Stevie Wonder.
Most of them were unsupported.. (Throaty or really strained : high larynx and other tension..).David Phelps & Steve Green are the best though!
Most male pop singers don't support above G#4, I'm not surprised :p
+Lyric Baritone Yeah, and most of them are tenors, so most of them can't support lower than a D3 which is tragic.
+Lyric Baritone The kpop vocalists here were good too, i forgot about them.
+Ch -Voce Jackie Wilson was good even though he was short, but his larynx is too low, maybe that's why he got some warble.
Kyuhyn did well
Layne Staley used to hit Bb4 when he sang Man In The Box
And he sustained it longer than any of these without faltering

The Gospel singers nailed it! Especially, David Phelps.
David Phelps sings Gospel?
He is originally a Gospel singer.

Layne Staley- Man in the box- best Bb4 in chorus

+Jack the Knife ?? In metal they belt higher, but not all of them can sing well past the 5th octave.
Lyric Baritone What I mean with my comment is that in metal singers belt with more intensity, hence power.
Jack the Knife the only belt i like from metal singers is muse. though he is not metal . he's vocal placement is good. metal singers is unhealthy
JCaunario Bullshit... it just takes time and dedication... to build a stronger sound...

Wow.. This Is What I really wanted to watch... Thanks For This Video....
No layne stayley?
Hola Rafael, por casualidad eras adventista?
Sandeul and David Phelps had the healthiest notes. They were objectively the best
Can you include Josh Kaufman? He has quite a high tessitura.
+Jasper Cox His high notes are so pushed.
+Rafael Araújo Okay.
For B4, I recommend Adam Lambert "Whole Lotta Love" and Brendan Urie "My Funny Valentine."
Jasper Cox I chose that note for Brendon Urie. But Adam's note in Whataya Want From Me (Live Oprah) have a better climax.
David Phelps and Steve Green were best....but Steve Green wins :-)
Why?
+Lyric Baritone In my opinion, I would say tone quality. Steve's is better, not as bright. His larynx is down, giving him a bigger, more pure sound.

Dead Inside from Matthew Bellamy should be in there!
I’m surprised Russell Hitchcock of Air Supply is not in the list. He has the highest chest voice among the males. Also Michael Bolton.
Where is Layne?
Damn, David Archuleta has had better Bb4's than the one shown here, he got better after that performance, in fact i see him belting a lot of B4's like it's nothing

ThePianoguy89 There's no such a thing as low light lyric tenor.
Nekros97 They meant low tessitura wise. Not his actual vocal fach.
For Jordan and Alex it’s a piece of cake

He is a Tenor
Johnny Cuff he more like a baritone for me too, but with good technique so he can hit some high notes like tenor. But his timbre and his tessitura still makes him more like a baritone
Le Anh Quoc He is more like a "Dramatic" Tenor than a Baritone to me.
Bb4 is half tone less than b4 right ?
