David Phelps is a gift from God. His amazing voice has got me through many tough times. You feel the hand of God upon you when David sings. You need to hear more of his songs. He can sing anything. My favourite is no more night, also Gentle Saviour. He is a very well known gospel singer.
David is classically trained and is one of the best tenors on the planet hands down. He is huge in the gospel community and was a member of the Gaither Vocal Band for many years. He does a killer cover of Whitney's "I Have Nothing" as you can see in other comments. He sings his own amazing version of Nessun Dorma and Ava Maria. He has a new album out with some great music on it, "Hello Beautiful", I Remember What We Thought Love Was", "Song For Sinners". Then he has a plethora of classics like "No More Night", "End of the Beginning", and one of my favorites of his, "Just As I Am". The passion he sings with and his vocal ability are, in my opinion, unmatched. He is definitely another rabbit hole artist.
agreed but you're not gonna like this -- I would submit that David has not found many excellent songs yet, and it holds him back from the public. HITS that are originals. his stand out songs are all of the classics other people have recorded. he does the best, granted! but he needs to find that songwriter or those songs that have indelible hit quality. "end of the beginning" or others just don't have epic hooks. when I go on Spotify and see how low his listener base is, compared to other singers like Josh Groban, my heart just drops because there are so many people who need to hear David's voice. but it's going to take catchier songs. like I said not a popular opinion! :-)

Whitney Houston was actually a fan of David's and considered him one of the best male vocalist alive, in return David was and is a big Whitney Houston fan himself and that is one of the reasons he performed her song I Have Nothing this past year. He is now 52yrs old and sings as well as ever, with 25 years worth of songs that can be found on youtube. He is also a brilliant song composer and arranger and though he will never admit it a great musician in his own right.

This is arguably the best male singer in the world[Before the Dimash fans come in, I said arguably], you need to check out more of his stuff. There’s a compilation you need to see, it’s called “David Phelps most resonant high notes”. You’ll get the best idea what this man can do watching that.
I think Dimash has a more abilities in terms of pure technicality but overall, i feel like Phelps is more consistent in his delivery. I like him more from a performer's perspective

He is the greatest tenor I have ever heard. Listen to "No more night". It will blow your mind. Every note and word he sings comes straight from the heart in order to bring God glory. Even non-Christians can listen to this version of O Holy Night and be moved by the power of David's amazing voice.

David Phelps is a once in a generation voice! You may not know the names of the Gaither’s, but I can guarantee that you know their music. They are gospel music powerhouses! Bill and Gloria have written hundreds of famous gospel songs that I’m sure you would know, if you heard them, but “He Touched Me” is fairly universally known. Hey have a group of artists, musicians, and singers that they bring together (called their Homecoming series). Bill and Gloria began as a trio WAY back in the day, and then Bill transitioned that into a male vocal band (Gaither Vocal Band) in 1980 and the band is still going strong today (through varying members over the years, except Bill).
I just happened to come across him one day channel surfing while he was singing this song and it was so beautiful I sat there and cried my eyes out it was so beautiful and powerful.

I once saw an interview Bill Gaither did with David Phelps, where he commented that David could make a year's living just singing 'O, Holy Night' from November 1 to December 24th. He wasn't wrong. The man is crazy talented. The Gaither Vocal Band does indeed attract fantastic voices, hosted in the bodies of Godly men.

OMGosh. I've been listening to David Phelps for years. He always gives me chills. I encourage you to listen to "No More Tears". I hope it's not sacrilegious but I had it playing 4 days ago when I had to have my precious, sweet angel dog put to sleep. With tears streaming down my face, a small Christmas tree with lights, and lit candles, David Phelps sang "no more pain". My sweet Lola baby peacefully transitioned to her next life. No more pain for my lively pup, but for me, I'm shattered. Phelps helps remind me that God promises "no more pain".
Listening to this man sing gave me chills!! I feel like I just got a sneak peak/glimpse of what Heaven's choir is going to sound like and David Phelps is the lead singer!! When David goes into the chorus for the second time I felt like I was hearing an angel that has been sent to Earth to sing for God's glory and for us to just sit back and enjoy and be in awe!!! The pianist was Anthony Burger, one of the best ever. Sadly, he died several years ago at a relatively young age. The guy in the red shirt, Mark Lowry, is a comedian and singer who was the long time baritone of the Gaither Vocal Band, along with David as the tenor. Mark also is famous as the lyricist who wrote the words of "Mary, Did You Know?".
Bill and Gloria Gaither are married Christian singers, songwriters and producers. Gloria has semi-retired from singing but still writes. Bill started the Gaither Vocal Band back in the 1980s and it has had a varying lineup over the years. The big group in this video is called the Homecoming Friends. Back in the late 1980s or early 1990s Bill thought that many older Gospel singers were fading from view and deserved a better following, so he brought many of them together and started shooting videos of them singing their own hits and classic Gospel songs. The concept proved quite successful and has carried on for decades now with tours and video/album releases. The Gaithers have a syndicated radio show and a tv program as well.

The best singer on the planet!!! He not only sings, but writes, arranges and produces his music. I have been following him for 20 years. I could name many songs that are great, but no matter what you choose, he will knock it out out of the park. I have seen many reactions to this version of my favorite Christmas song, but I couldn’t wait to see you put your genuine love on it. I have “heard” this song before, but with the conviction that David sings it, I LISTENED to the lyrics for the first time. The lyrics are so beautiful, and this is the only version I’ve heard that does the Christ birth justice. Glad you liked it, and thanks again. Bill and Gloria Gaither are hosting the event. Bill Gaither has a vocal band as well as hosting many southern gospel event. David was a member of the vocal band for about 12 years. He is the greatest tenor I have ever heard. Listen to "No more night". It will blow your mind. Every note and word he sings comes straight from the heart in order to bring God glory. Even non-Christians can listen to this version of O Holy Night and be moved by the power of David's amazing voice.

David Phelps is a once in a generation voice! You may not know the names of the Gaither’s, but I can guarantee that you know their music. They are gospel music powerhouses! Bill and Gloria have written hundreds of famous gospel songs that I’m sure you would know, if you heard them, but “He Touched Me” is fairly universally known. Hey have a group of artists, musicians, and singers that they bring together (called their Homecoming series). Bill and Gloria began as a trio WAY back in the day, and then Bill transitioned that into a male vocal band (Gaither Vocal Band) in 1980 and the band is still going strong today (through varying members over the years, except Bill).
I just happened to come across him one day channel surfing while he was singing this song and it was so beautiful I sat there and cried my eyes out it was so beautiful and powerful.

The Gaither Vocal Band OFTEN focuses on one voice for particular songs. O Holy Night really lends itself to a tenor and David is supreme. This was at a Gaither Homecoming Concert. You should check out more because Bill has the most amazing voices in his concerts.
I once saw an interview Bill Gaither did with David Phelps, where he commented that David could make a year's living just singing 'O, Holy Night' from November 1 to December 24th. He wasn't wrong. The man is crazy talented. The Gaither Vocal Band does indeed attract fantastic voices, hosted in the bodies of Godly men.

OMGosh. I've been listening to David Phelps for years. He always gives me chills. I encourage you to listen to "No More Tears". I hope it's not sacrilegious but I had it playing 4 days ago when I had to have my precious, sweet angel dog put to sleep. With tears streaming down my face, a small Christmas tree with lights, and lit candles, David Phelps sang "no more pain". My sweet Lola baby peacefully transitioned to her next life. No more pain for my lively pup, but for me, I'm shattered. Phelps helps remind me that God promises "no more pain".

He has a theatrical voice and he would be wonderful on Broadway, but he made the decision to sing within his faith! 2 other things - 1. Can we recognise the brilliant pianist and arrangement accompanying David. 2. In videos of David where he is backed by this choir there is usually a guy behind David somewhere who simply can't contain himself when David really hits the money note in the song. The man in the red shirt is Mark Lowry. He always gets happy when David is singing.
The pianist was Anthony Burger, one of the best ever. Sadly, he died several years ago at a relatively young age. The guy in the red shirt, Mark Lowry, is a comedian and singer who was the long time baritone of the Gaither Vocal Band, along with David as the tenor. Mark also is famous as the lyricist who wrote the words of "Mary, Did You Know?".
Bill and Gloria Gaither are married Christian singers, songwriters and producers. Gloria has semi-retired from singing but still writes. Bill started the Gaither Vocal Band back in the 1980s and it has had a varying lineup over the years. The big group in this video is called the Homecoming Friends. Back in the late 1980s or early 1990s Bill thought that many older Gospel singers were fading from view and deserved a better following, so he brought many of them together and started shooting videos of them singing their own hits and classic Gospel songs. The concept proved quite successful and has carried on for decades now with tours and video/album releases. The Gaithers have a syndicated radio show and a tv program as well.
