Thank you. I am a GM Tech. Havent been at the dealer since 2016. Doing something else now. I didnt call my friends at Chevy. Was going to. I watched videos and was reading blogs. So many are wrong. I was watching this one video and he had all the tools and the lift and a uniform. And he said he put it in service mode. And after he put the pads and rotor on the caliper still wouldn't go down on the rotor so he took the motor off and somehow winded it back. Be in a Chevy for 20 some years They would have never engineered something like that. I immediately thought maybe he would have to do reset mode twice because it was sticking etc. Your right. They're out there setting people up for failure lol. There's another video where the mechanic at an African accent. He says do not do these brakes if you do not have the scan tool or you will be bringing it to the dealer. I also knew that can't be true because of my experience with GM engineering. They are not allowed by law to force you to use the dealer tool for brakes. They will do stuff like that. But then they get sued. Thanks for this. I appreciate it. An old constable customer of mine asked me to do his back brakes. I don't want nobody messing them up. He's an He's an older built tough gentleman who transports prisoners for a living. He dont want someone messing his vehicle up. My aunt had her 2016 Ford fusion at a professional independent shop. They did her back brakes and messed it up. Those go into default and lock the e-brake and won't let it out of park. He gave her some bull crap story. The truth was he worked on it without putting it in service mode. And he don't have a scanner new enough to reset it. POS
The CAL is recalibrating for your compass and yea that's where the scanner comes in and that's to set your brake life back to 100%. and Great vid to let someone know how to put the rear brakes in service mode .
Man I was about 2hrs late finding your video. Just did my fronts and expected it to be nothing like the rears. I was wrong. Swapped everything over and started the truck up and everything to do with braking and trailering and etc came on. Thankfully my buddies scan tool was big enough to reset the codes. Doing my rears last year turned into a 6hr job because I couldn’t get the piston to go down and nappa rented me an adaptor tool that spin the worm gear down which also didn’t work. Stupid me powered the truck on and the park brake tried engaging and popped the piston out of the caliper and then every light came on the dash. Had to get a guy from the dealership with his scan tool to clear the codes. Couldn’t even bleed the brakes after we got the piston back in. The master cylinder must be electronic and the codes deactivated it. Hopefully it’s another 2yrs or longer before I need to do this but I thank you for this video showing how to activate brake service mode. Never knew it was a thing.
Been doing brakes for years but changing the rear pads and rotors on my 2019 Silverado took me about 3 hours as I had to drill out the torx counter sink bolt that holds the rotor in place. The first one - my 30T torx easily striped the head when I tried to manually remove it, so I had to drill it out and retap it, not so bad. When I went to do the other side, I put the T30 torx bit in a light impact, thinking it would break free. But no, my Torx bit broke off in the counter sink fastener and I could not remove the hardened piece that was stuck in there. Let me tell you that was a bitch to drill out. Yes, I used a break free solvent on those fasteners before trying to remove them, always do. When I got it all together and took it out of brake service mode, my dash lit up like a christmas tree with all sorts of errors, service ESC, max speed 70KPH, engine light on, Traction Control disable. It took about 3 miles of EASY driving, start, stop, engine off, and resart to clear all the errors.
Good video! I have changed brakes on many cars/ trucks. Decided to get a price from a shop and they charged $400 for labour. I said F it im just letting someone else change my 4 rotors pads and sensors. First time having someone do this for me and honestly I think I can get used to it lol.... 2020 High Country
thank you so much for this video, i kind of did all the work before watching this. i have a 2020 silverado trailboss LT and let me tell you. ive been changing brakes for years and the way they make these brakes no is stupid. Growing up i never had to disconnect a battery to do a simple brake job. But at the same time im very impressed with how easy it is changing them on the trail boss when everything goes right. any Do it yourself machanic knows any 30 minute job can turn into hours of frustration. what i took from your video was the park service mode for the back breaks. im not even going to get started on that one, i spent 2 hours twisting that motor in 😭😭😭😭😭😭 but currently right now, i had all sorts of lights and the way i got them off was disconnecting battery for like a half hour. check engine light is still on, giving me codes of C0560 and p25a2 and i cant figure it out for the life of me. maybe it needs to "learn" again
2020 silverado custom. I did the same , service mode but ended up in limp mode . Stuck w/e-brake on and had to flat bed it to dealership. $600+ just to diagnose and reprogram a new park brake motor. Motor was only $90 , the rest was labor , programing and tow truck.
Man I wish I would have seen this video before I did mine I got the tool and spun it back in now I gotta replace the emergency brake motor... smh To do that would I have to put it in brake service mode again And then just put the new ones on?
So I put the new motors on. Truck was in brake service mode. Had my buddy come with his scan tool and clear everything and she is all good! Thank you Jesus!
If you tow the rear has a lot of weight and will wear more quickly. If you never tow then the front has more weight (engine and the fact weight shifts forward as you slow). On cars the 2 to 1 is typical.
Can't believe the dealership wouldn't let me know this. They charged me $210 cus I backfed the system since I wasn't in brake service mode. Ridiculous.
Did mine today and the brake failure/ speed limited to 43mph is on my dash in plugged the battery and everything u did but still havin the same issue 😅
My is doing same thing paid 500 to have it fix at dealership and once ready still didn't work now they say it's the master cylinder now they say it's 2500k just brought it back home
Hold the push to start button without touching the brake pedal until your instrument cluster lights up. I work at an automotive shop for a living, and as cars have been evolving so has the information I've needed to be able to keep working on them.

Had the same issues with the torx heads , max speed indicator light and TC. what a pain!
Good video!

Thank You Great Job
Wish I would have seen this vid before I dis my brakes
I dont have a key in my 2020 Silverado RST
Why were both front and back worn? Usually you front twice before the rear ? What happened
The slide pins on the back were hanging up and the inside pads gone worn quickly
@@Chad-xn2ti im thinking that the traction control on these new vehicles are cause the rear brakes to wear faster as well i hope I’m wrong

The dealership isn't going to tell you shit, these vehicles are designed so you have to take it to the dealer.
Did mine today and the brake failure/ speed limited to 43mph is on my dash in plugged the battery and everything u did but still havin the same issue 😅
I had the same thing happen. Then magically, it went away and my truck was good to go.
Yea same thing. After a day or two it will go away
@@dangmanlieu8579 lucky lol mine was like that for 2 weeks and finally towed it to the dealer and got it fixed for 1k 😅
My is doing same thing paid 500 to have it fix at dealership and once ready still didn't work now they say it's the master cylinder now they say it's 2500k just brought it back home
@@albertoalvarado4048 damn 😅 ig we have to take it to dealer for brake service smh 🤦♂️
Wait…2020 don’t have push start? My 21 has push start so how do I do it???
Hold the push to start button without touching the brake pedal until your instrument cluster lights up. I work at an automotive shop for a living, and as cars have been evolving so has the information I've needed to be able to keep working on them.
Depends on the trim level. I have a 2020 Trail Boss LT. It has push button.
