How in the world is a 74 year old man this handsome

Met John DeLancie at an Australian convention in 1991 (less than a month before Roddenberry passed). A great raconteur and a very nice man to boot. In the venue, I was on the phone to a friend who couldn't make it. John was walking past and I beckoned him to the phone. Without hesitation he took the phone and said a drawn out "Hello". My friend, suspecting nothing, but realising it was no longer me on the phone asked, "who's this?". John replied, "This is Q" as only he could. A brilliant prank. I was told several years later by one of the organisers that John was reluctant to come to Brisbane as he'd had a family bereavement. Not knowing what to expect but assuming fans were the same the world over, he wasn't keen on being deluged as he had been in the States. Day 1, he's in the hotel elevator & some (obvious) attendees entered. They all pretty much ignored their travelling companion, which puzzled him. He leaned in and asked, "are you going to the convention?" They replied nonchalantly that yes, they were. A few seconds passed and it got the better of him. "Do you know who I am?". "Yes, we know who you are." Upon his return to the States, he told others of this encounter and said that Australian fans had "real class". And that praise/recommendation swayed quite a few subsequent convention guests to go to Australia.

His story about the awareness of his character of a Nazi gave life and emotional development of how he became the man who could become a man who could do what he had to do to devolve into acceptance of what he must do and who he must become to be a good Nazi. So insightful. Such an important lesson in becoming a character. Brilliant!

    • @Cthulhu4President

...With as few and far between they use Q, Star Trek would be little different without Q.
Great character, but it's hard to add much to the overall show when you get all of ~20 appearances across 4 separate shows.
Q had his best run in TNG with some very nice character development and a Q cultural reveal in Voyager. I'm very surprised they bothered to bring in Q for any of DS9 but have him take no interest whatsoever in the Prophets, the Pah-Wraiths OR the Bajorans. Q could've easily impersonated a Prophet, missed opportunities.
The entirety of the Q Continuum is/was an underutilized gem.

Gawd he was chilling as Dr.Mott in the hand that rocks the cradle..and in conversation and interviews he is such an interesting man.
I didn't know he went to Julliard, no wonder his scenes with Picard were so memorable. They were both trained actors who knew how to perfectly play off each other and deliver the story and lines so well..Delancie seems to be more focused on the acting then he is the celebrity and that's what sets him apart from some of the big well known names..

Most people are mostly good and decent regardless of personal beliefs. Humans are historically rigged to care for others and only comparatively recently this has changed. But atheists are still looked with prejudice as non-cis or non-heterossexual or non-white or just non-conforming people once were. People who behave well just because of their religion often find hard to understand why anyone without one does not feel free to be a complete rascal. Well, we don't.

John de Lancie's Days Of Our Lives character Eugene Bradford was a favourite of mine. Only because I grew up watching Days Of Our Lives and apparently I'm still watching it in 2023. Days Of Our Lives has just been renewed for another two years(another two seasons) which is congratulations there. I hope that one day John de Lancie will bring Eugene and Calliope Bradford back to Salem. Arlene Sorkin plays Eugene's wife Calliope Jones-Bradford. So just hoping one day those two will return to Days and Salem together.

As the Fonz, part of why he delivered his lines differently than what was in the script was the dyslexia-and he didn’t get diagnosed until later. It was just a good thing that Henry had good instincts with what Fonzie could be saying or doing vs what he was actually doing in the script.
